  1. Hi all, odd one... My grey appears normal all day and then in the evening at about half 9 one of his eyes starts closing whilst the other is open. I initially thought he was just having a snooze on his perch, but then realised his other eye was open. Started on Tuesday evening and then Didn't happen yesterday and started again tonight. Any advice available before I call my vet in the morning! Very worried, georgie
  2. Hi! I was recommended Cede Premium Eggfood (canary) by a fellow grey owner for my African grey. Has anyone else ever used this for their grey? Thanks, Georgie
  3. It’s the food from pet smart/pets at home... We used this mix combined with fruit and veg. As judygram said in the previous post, I shouldn’t blame the pet shop as I should have know about alternatives sooner, but as a warning to others...please don't rely on knowledge from pet shops...(even some of the specialist avian shops I have visited sell recommended similar seed mix for greys... Our vet has recommended and can provide Harrison’s, so we will be switching his diet gradually when he is home. Do you recommedend Harrisons?
  4. Stressful week...we took my grey to the vet on Saturday as he was clearly under the weather. She is still in there now, and will be until the weekend. They had to run a number of tests and the vets first thoughts were, fatty liver, PDD or a kidney problem. Latest update, it sounds like it is a virus of the air sacs - she is on a course of antibiotics. One thing I am glad of though is related to her diet... the seed part of her seed/fruit diet is a major no-no. I have been using the UK’s top pet shops premium parrot food which is one of the worst for greys...advised to move on to Harrisons and continue the fruit/veg mix. This is why she has a potential fatty liver. I am outranged that this leading pet shop is aloud to sell this parrot food. Will keep you posted on her health…I think we are out of the worst as she is now eating again… p.s. we also found out she is a girl!!! her name is Will - :-)
  5. Hi, I have just moved my African grey into my new house. When we transported him it was bit chilly and drizzling but he didn’t get too wet as he was in the car. (literally outside to transport him from a house to the car to the new house). He seemed ok last night but I have just got back from work and noticed him regurgitating/almost being sick. I haven’t seen him eat yet but he has regurgitate about 10 times in an hour and it just looks like mushy seed/nuts. His poo does also seem quite watery. Do i need to seek veterinary advice??? Please help!
  6. Hello! Quick introduction from Georgie, Dean and our grey Will (or William when he is naughty!). We live in the UK and Will is five and a half years old! His favourite food is grapes and is partial to a banana smoothy now and again! He loves shredding paper and making a mess! He is pretty good at talking and is learning to count at the moment. 1, 2, 4, 5 (he never says 3!!!). Thanks, Georgie and Dean
  7. yup - thats what it looks like! thank you for your help!!
  8. My greys beak has changed recently. First there was a small chip on the side. But now it looks like the beak has split/flaked. (i.e. looks similar to when your finger nail splits). Is this normal? Is it just a case of the beak growing out? Or do i need to see a vet? Any advice is greatful! Thanks, Georgie
