1. I'm thinking along the lines of siobha9. I think the natural state of food is the healthiest. Also, this grey we just adopted is about 20 years old and has had fairly poor living conditions. I was really surprised and thrilled when she took a liking to fresh foods. Anyway, there are some pellets in the food she has now and I don't even think she's intereted. She's a bit old to make any major changes.
2. Sorry the title is supposed to say "Natural food"
3. If I wanted to buy a lot of seed at a time, could I put the bulk of it in the freezer so that it would last? This was an idea I heard but I don't know if that will kill the seed or possibly just not make it last anyway. Does anyone know?
4. We just got an African Grey from my fiance's grandmother. She can't take care of her anymore. Winslow (discovered to be female a few years ago) is about 20 years old, but now has to learn a new way of life. She lived in a home constantly filled with cigarette smoke, a very dirty cage, and no attention. I thought she would be really scared of a change, even if it is a good one. But she's only been here a few weeks and already looks so happy with us!:cheer: We can keep working on minor things, but I am so glad that she appriciates attention and a bigger, clean cage.
5. I have been trying to find a parrot food that does not have pellets in it. I just want seeds (which is more natural). It could maybe have some beans, nuts, and legumes in it too, but that's not too necessary because I can get those things separately. I would supplement the rest of her nutrition with real food like fresh veggies. But back to the seeds- does anyone know of anything? Buying each kind of seed separately and putting them together is also easier said than done (can't find most of the seeds at reasonable cost or availability).

Post edited by: Talon, at: 2008/07/11 04:05
6. I was wondering if unpopped popcorn was really ok for a bird to eat because it is so compact. Also, I heard that rice is dangerous for birds to eat because it expands in their stomach. Does this mean the African Grey should not eat rice?
