I think Monkey might be a girl! I took her to our bird lady to get some seeds and toys, and there was another baby grey in there that day! (Monkey was the last one she had, so i had no others to compare.) This other baby grey was much bigger than Monkey, but it was a lot younger. It was also chunkier had more masculine features too. Monkey is a bit small for a grey (seven and a half inches tall), and has slender, feminine features now that i compare to others. i started looking through pics on this site and others and i think monkey could be a girl! or maybe shes just a runt....what do you guys think?

YAY!!! Monkey is now successfully on one feeding in the evening and doing really awesome. he's happy, and keeping his weight up nicely. yay again!

Monkey liked the water right away, but it was pretty cold. i gave him some warmer water today and he didnt want anything to do with it. which is weird, everything else has to be warm, i cant even clean his face off with a chilly towel....i gave him a bowl since he was already trying to get into his water bowl, heavy enough that he could step in and out however he liked. i wonder why your Lacey doesnt like it? interesting, the diversity between them all... thanks for the feedback! i will post some pics of Monkey's first bath as soon as i get them in the computer.

I watched Monkey (my four-month-old) until i found out how often he goes and when he's due for a poo, ill take him to the spot and tell him to go poop and tell him that after he goes, too. Then i say Yay! and Good! things like that and give him a scratch. He still goes wherever he pleases, but i try to catch him when he's about to go anyway, and that helps a bit....

Well, ive had my baby for almost almost a week now. His name is Monkey and he's about four months old. He is still taking two handfeedings, and he hasnt learned to fly yet (though he is not clipped). Is that normal? I've read that they get off their hand feedings a bit earlier, but I thought maybe since he hasnt flown much either and doesnt mimic many sounds yet that he is just taking things slowly. (I use a syringe to feed him, but not with a tube. I just put the little end in his beak so he can taste it and pump it and all, I've read some horror stories about the tube coming off in the crop or tearing it and that is soooo scary to me, and the syringe with no tube was how our bird lady would feed him, so I'm sticking with that. He does like to eat some himself, though.) He's just started refusing some of his baby food and eating more out of his food bowl, and he eats everything you put in front of him, so we're making progress and all. I'm sure I've done everything pretty well feeding him, I've done a ton of reading in many places that makes me feel confident about it. Also, Monkey sleeps a lot through the day. I'm sure he gets plenty of sleep at night, I put him in a quiet room after his evening feeding when he looks sleepy. Is this because he is still a baby, and babies sleep alot? He doesnt ever sleep for more than maybe twenty minutes, just catnaps once in a while. He'll be playing with his toys or trying to fly (he has made a few short hops onto my arm or knee), and then he'll take a nappy-nap. Other than that, Monkey is doing great! I'm attempting to potty train him, and thats coming along, much to my surprise. He is very curious, and he loves all the toys I've made for him. I try to get him to do something new every day, like trying a new food, getting a new toy, meeting a new person, and he does great with it all. I'm so happy!! And he took his first bath all by himself today! It was adorable! And i love this site, it's so helpful, thank you all for everything, I'll keep you posted on Monkey's progress.

yeah he is a jackass, his name is raymond. he thinks im weird; my shoe came off one day in front of him and it freaked him out, i guess it was like watching a horse step out of its hoof or something... i do love horses, but i dont own any...a few live next door to me, but the extent of that relationship is photography. its okay though, ill have my baby grey here in a week to take pictures of. yayayayayayayaaaay!!!!!!!! :woohoo:

here are some pictures i took of my baby grey. he is a little more grown up now, but these are just so adorable! that last one is one of the more memorable birds ive met, he thinks he's just the baddest, toughest thing that ever walked the earth. but he's really cute.

i did read that sometimes it only lasts for a little while, and thats okay. i loved my baby before i saw it, and ill love him just the same if it falls out. and he is really young, so theres a good chance it will disappear with his first molt. its just a curiousity, is all.

thanks so much for the welcome!! (and thanks for cleaning out all those duplicates, fairY.) well, my bird lady moved my baby to another box, so he's not constantly being bugged by the amazons now. she said he was getting really annoyed so she did him a favor. (i still dont know the sex of my baby yet, im just using him out of habit) he's growing up so fast, he's so beautiful, i love him so much. he's just learning how to perch and stand up on stuff thats not flat, and he did a really good job of climbing around on my arm when i visited him today. thanks again, crystine

hey i know there are lots of threads on red factor parrots in here, but im just curious to know if mine is red factor...i just got back home from visiting my baby and you know the softer feathers on the back that you cant see when the bird folds its wings? well, on my grey, there is a red stripe along the edge of each feather on about half of his back. it looks a little like the scalloping on some of the other feathers, only red. he lifted his wings to stretch for a second and i noticed it. its really very nice-looking, very uniform and deliberate-looking, and i didnt see it before, i think it appeared pretty recently. just curious, and it is a fascinating subject to discuss. ill try to get a picture sometime, but i havent got any of the red yet... he is growing up so fast, he is very beautiful, and i love him so much already!! thanks guys

my baby grey is being kept with two baby amazons of about the same size and age. my bird lady says that the grey doesnt really like them, they get on his / her nerves a little bit. is my baby just annoyed that they are a bit more vocal and active than he / she is? and will this affect my baby's behavior in the future? i asked my bird lady about it, and she says she isnt too worried, and that my baby has a sweet disposition, and i trust her judgement. (she has some really great birds, ive met them all and theyre so nice. they have their quirks, but theyre all very fun and beautiful and healthy.) i just want to double check and see what you guys think thanks crystine
