  1. what can I do to improve my relationship with my bird? He has taken to my husband and acts so excited to see him when he walks in the room. My husband doesn't hardly play with him, only when I beg him too, and the only other thing he does is help me clean out his cage. He was taming down the first couple of weeks that I had him, but now he tries to bite at me, sometimes suceeds and leaves me in tears. I do tell him a firm no, and most of the time place him back in his cage. I want my bird to love me also. I did take him to town yesterday and have his nails clipped, but he started his behavior with my husband the night before. He will act like he is kissing him, and rub his head on him. Sad in Texas!!{Feel-bad-0002006A}
  2. Hello I just wanted to let you know that I did take Floyd to the vet today, and she said that he was in good shape. I didnt have her to do a complete checkup today, because of the money, but did get his nails trimmed. She said that I needed to mix some vitamin e in a bottle with water, and mist him with it. She said that vitamin e is one of the best things that you can use on your bird, for feather picking, like for dry skin or if the bird has picked until there is a wound. She has a grey as well, which she rescued from someone else and told me that her bird picked herself until she bled and she applied vitamin e straight on the wound, and she said that it is almost miraculous, that you could see it healing up by the next day. So that is pretty much it. well, see ya!!
  3. Welcome Lyn!! I am new also on this wonderful site, and I love it. It has helped me so much already and I just found it day before yesterday. I don't know much about greys, because i brought home my CAG two weeks ago, and he is the ripe old age of 5.
  4. AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWw!!! He is precious!!! I would love to raise a baby.
  5. I wish I could pet my grey like this. You never know how to take him, he will bend his head down to let you and then give you a screech whistle, like back off!!
  6. thank you for your help, i will be sure and pick one of those up....i am really like a new mom bringing home my first child.:ohmy:!!!
  7. no it is just a plastic pump spray bottle, that has been cleaned to the max. no hairspray is in it. that is what a vet told me that i could use when i called to ask questions about wetting him.
  8. I added several pictures of him....somewhere in my profile. thanks for all the kind things you have to say, and i really look forward to the next day when i can sign on and see if i have any messages or advice. if any of you have advice that you think i should know, please drop me a line and let know. I want to do what is right by him, and love him as if he were actually mine....keeping my fingers crossed, that his actual owner doesn't want him back:)
  9. what do you use to spray your bird with? I use an old hairspray bottle that gives off a fine mist spray, but like dave007 said maybe i need to change the type of bottle.He keeps putting his head down in the way and biting at the bottle.
  10. sniffffffff!!{Feel-bad-0002006A} this is so sad. I am just so thankful that you found him when you did. I love animals, and hate to see any of them mistreated.
  11. Oh, how precious they are...I wish that I could have gotten Floyd when he was that young, and he actually be mine. {Love-000200D9}
  12. I just don't want him to hate me when I do this. I have tried so hard to be his friend, and build his trust, but I know it has to be done. I may get my husband or son to do it, so I don't have to be the mean one.
  13. thanks, dave007 I will keep on keeping on, and hopefully he will start enjoying it.
  14. I would like to know how to introduce a 5 yr old african grey to take a bath, or shower? He pulls back when I get him near a sink that has water in it. I have tried to show him by playing in the water, and used toys, and treats, but no sir, he won't have it. Today I took him in my bathroom and turned on the shower and let him see the water falling, and then turned it off, and just thought I was going to set him down in the bottom. He pulled back, and sort of bit my finger:woohoo: I have tried to spritz him with a hairspray bottle that has a fine mist holding it way up above so it would just mist down on him, but he lunges for the bottle, and starts jumping up and down, so I know that I am really upsetting him. I know he needs a bath or shower desperately, but the lady that had him previously didn't do anything of the sort. She couldn't because of her health.
  15. thanks alot, you make me feel really welcome, hopefully, I won't run you crazy with questions. I have an appointment for Floyd this Friday with a vet who treats parrots.
  16. thanks for the help, that is exactly what I will do. He seems to really love the pellets.
  17. Hi, again, I am new to this forum, and have signed the welcome page, and I have a question? How much Harrison's pellets, do you think I need to feed my CAG? He is about five years old, and the guy that still actually owns him told me to give him five pellets a day, and a baggie of fruit or veggies. He loves the pellets. I called the vet and she said to never limit him on any of his food. She said that her African Grey eats like a pig. I am trying to get my ducks in a row and make sure that I give hiim all the care he needs. I have already fell in love with him, and he is adjusting well to our house. Hopefully, the guy will just give him to me forever.
  18. I would like to say hello, first of all, and tell you a little about my bird. His name is Floyd..or Greybird! He isn't actually mine, I am actually a babysitter for a very long time, hopefully permanently. He has had a rough go in life, because I am actually his fourth home to be in. My cousin was given this bird for his birthday, by one of his friends. He kept the bird for a while, and then his house was damaged from Hurricane Rita, so he had to move in with his father in law, and therefore, handed the bird down to his mother. This is where the trouble started. She kept Floyd in her living room for a while, and then got tired of fooling with him and moved him into the utility room and kept the door closed. She fed him a diet of straight sunflower seeds, and just a little mixed veggies on the side. Needless to say, he has feather plucked his tummy almost bald, and I am having all sorts of trouble trying to change his world around, from giving him a bath, mist or shower, to eating like he needs to. I have been reading thru your forums, and there is alot of great info, that has really helped me. Anyways, this just about sums it up. I will add a picture of him a.s.a.p.
