  1. Oh I know exactly what you are feeling, I felt the same way with Floyd, but he did step up on a long wooden handled spoon, and I eeeaaaassseeeddd {Feel-bad-00020063} him back in, because I had been bitten several times. He would glare at me or pin me with his eyes but I would cock my head to the side and talk really sweet and soft to him, and after a few days he started calming down, and also after a while if he was on the cage, I would get a chair to get him down, because it would make me taller than he was, and he felt somehow smaller than I was. I know that I cannot offer much help but maybe something I have said will help.

    good bye

    thanks to you all, I appreciate you very much, I just don't know what to say other than that. KeriB)
  3. welcome Lorri, and all I can offer you as far as advice goes, it to just keep at it. I had babysitted a CAG and he bit me several times at first, and then seemed to bond with me....that is until my husband showed up, and he just fell in love with him, and had nothing else to do with me. I only had him three weeks, until he had to go back home. so I am greyless....to say the least.
  4. Hello Blaine, let me tell you, the people in your family that doesn't like birds, will be the one that the grey will bond with. Just ask me, it happened to me. They are right, it takes a---lot of time for one of these parrots, and if you don't give it all the time and attention that it requires, it will pick its belly until all of the feathers are gone. I would recommend that you start with a small parrot, like me a sweet, little quaker, or a cockatiel is great. You are just getting to the prime age for activities in school...sports, UIL, Band...and that will take alot of your time. Trust me, I have a thirteen year old, who just thought he wanted chickens of all things, something that requires alot of attention.....and so we bought chickens, and guess who has to take care of the chickens? His father and I. Stinky ol' chickens!!! anyone want to buy chickens? :sick:

  12. we went today and played with Chloe again, and she just loved being held and petted. She acted like she didn't want to get back in her cage. She is so beautiful, she has the blue tipped wings, and blue tipped tail. {Feel-good-0002006E}
  13. Tari, Thanks for the info, my kids are really good with animals. We talked to the owner of the bird farm, and he said that we could bring Chloe home next Friday and try her for the night, to see how she does. We don't want to get her too early, for fear she will regress. She will be barely weaned, and I am anxious but scared too. I have never had a tiny baby bird. Did any of you bring home your baby that was just weaned? What is some of the signs that I can look for if she starts regressing? :woohoo:
  14. Oh, I know I will. I have her cage ordered, and need to get her some toys. I am so excited....yipee!
  15. thank you casper, for your kind words. I am so excited for my quaker.
  16. believe me, I just babysitted a bird, that had feather plucked hisself, because of the lack of interaction.
  17. I am excited to get my new bird, but missed Floyd's greeting this morning. He would always tell me "morning". Hopefully, he will be o.k.
  18. Yes, he had to go back to his mother's, but I sent him with all of his pellets that I had just purchased, foods, and veggies, fruits, several things that I knew he loved, and she put him back into her living room where he can see everything going on, and she can keep him company. I really stressed to her that he would be better off in there instead of the laundry room. He seemed just fine, and was calling out her husband's name, like he missed them. I gave him some carrots, and boy did he like that. I wrote her a note telling her what the vet said, and that he has to strictly be on a pellet diet no seeds, only for treats, so she probably will keep him on it. i really blame the owner of the bird, for not bringing him home or either selling him to someone that could really give him alot of love and attention. He loved my noisy house, with my six year old singing to him, and all of us paying him loads of attention. I cried when I took out his cage, and placed him in his taxi. I already miss his company, and funny wisecracks. I purchased a quaker today, and she seemed really taken with my kids, and myself. She walked all over them, and loved on them. I will get to bring her home probably next week. I am gonna name her Chloe.
  19. I just wanted to let you all know, that I will have to take Floyd home today. Since it has only been three weeks, do you think he will remember his home and the person before me? I just hope he doesn't go back to plucking hisself. His feathers were just growing out. I will miss the little rascal. I probably will get another bird, but do not want an cag, because they are more or less one person birds, and my kids want to be able to interact with it, so what kind would you say that i should get?
  20. Do you buy the kind of peanuts that you would eat, or the ones at the pet store? I have some that are just plain roasted, that I eat, and have given some to Floyd.
  21. yeah, I know what you mean, but try this.....I found a strategy that almost everytime works. Make your boyfriend get down on his knees, and then try to take you bird from him. I have really seen the dominance factor in my bird. My husband is taller, therefore, he likes his shoulder better because it is taller. His cage is taller than I am when I am standing up, so I have to get a chair, and make him waist high to me, and he will almost everytime step up to me when I do that. Try it and see if that works. I have been able to handle him a little better, and he hasn't bit me in two days, but I still cannot rub on him at all, except his head occasionally.
  22. thanks. I guess one thing that I can do to cause him to dislike my husband so much is by letting my husband be the one to spray him with the water.:evil: He absolutely hates this. If you could see evil coming out of his eyes, this would be the one thing to do it.
