  1. Sidney (CAG) and Ricco (Amazon) are settling in. They are very well mannered. Both come to our hand easily and are comfortable with us holding them. They were a little dirty when they arrived. I made my husband get up early today to give them a shower. Ricco was VERY happy for that and isn't picking at his feathers constantly like list night. Sidney is a talker. He has several versions of hello and Sidney. He must have been trained with a clicker. When we tell him to "step up" he makes a clucking noise. Ricco says RRRRICCO, or RRRRRI. He says something else but I can't figure out what it is. The cages were sent through the car wash power washer before they arrived here. They were still caked with poop. Hubby has cleaned them. They act so happy now. They both love banana, grapes. Tomorrow we're going to work on some greens. We are so happy with our decision to bring them into the family. My dog is a little out of sorts but he's not allowed in the room.
  2. I'm so excited. We're picking up Sidney (the CAG) and Ricco (the amazon) in about an hour. They both had a clean bill of health from the vet!! We're so excited. Jody

    Veggie ?

I'm making up a batch of veggie broth for me. It has Carrots/carrot tops, celery, sweet potato, red potato, leeks, onion, garlic, kombu (seaweed), peppercorns, parsley. I'm wondering if after I drain off the broth if I can give the solid cooked veggies. Since my grey isn't joining the family until mid week, can I freeze this and thaw. Thanks
  4. The current owner and my hubby took the birds that we are adopting to the vet yesterday. The vet said that both birds had good health. Sidney, the grey, is overweight so we will need to work on the food. He's currently eating zupreem fruit flavored and that's it. So we'll work on adding fruits & veggies. And getting him out of his cage to excercise. Ricco, the mexican red head, has a slight heart murmer, is in great need of a bath and also needs diet change. They were very well behaved through the entire visit. Especially Sidney. Ricco was more amazon typical by being skittish but did well also. Hubby was able to hold both birds even though they were in a new situation. Hubby just loves Sidney. They were both tested for chlmydia and we should have the results in about 5 days. Vet said that in the past it was typical that there would be false positive test and she feels that was probably the case for Sidney. Neither bird appeared to have chlamydia so that was good. God willing they will be in our home by the mid to end of next week! Yea!!
  5. I have already posted on the african grey area (chlamydia) but I haven't introduced myself. My family and I are in the process of adopting a 13 yo. male CAG (Sidney) and a 13 yo green cheeked amazon (Ricco). We were able to go meet them yesterday. Both were well tempered and we were able to handle them with no hesitation. We are also the owners of a Sun Conure. I need advice on transitioning them to our family and introducing them to the conure. I'm very excited to have them in our family and to learn more about caring for them. Jody
  6. Here's what we've decided to do. My husband and I went and visited Sidney (CAG) and Ricco (Amazon) yesterday. They are very beautiful and look healthy. We've asked the current owner if she can take them to the vet and keep them until the lab test have been done and come back as negative. We'll pay the vet directly for the check ups/lab test. And then we will transfer them to our house. So, God willing, they will be with us in about 2 weeks. :woohoo:
  7. OK thanks everyone. I was able to talk to 2 vets yesterday. They both said it was not a good idea and they should be tested again. The test (or labs) are not reliable and that another test showing negative should be run before we consider this.
  8. We have an opportunity to adopt an african grey and a mexican red head. It's our understanding the the african grey tested positive for Chlamydia in 2002 but then had a negative test. The amazon doesn't have symptoms. I have a son whose going through chemo and has a bad immune system. Is it possible for a grey to have a negative test but sill carry chlamydia? Thanks.
