  1. Right this very minute I am replying to this post and contemplating if I want to go get Tiko and bring him or her home one day early. House is ready, playpen in place, cage prepared, and oh I just can't wait. OK my mind is made up. I am gong to get him or her.
  2. I have my bird clipped for partial flight. This gives him a way to escape something if he needs to. However, when we are outside in the garage working and he is on his playpen, he can't get very far from home and this gives me time to go get him before something else does. At first I was against clipping, but then Tango flew one day off his playpen throught the yard and out into the street, so for this reason he get s partial flight. Good luck in your decision as it is indeed a very tought one to make.
  3. Pictures are a definate. I am thinking on going to get Tiko today instead of waiting until tomorrow. We have just cleared the way for Tiko's playpen and of course now I want him or her here now. I wonder if I am getting addicted to these fine creatures. I am hoping that Tango is young enough to deal with a new bird. Oh yeah Tango is exactly 16 months old today. Wow how time has flown (no pun intended) since he entered my life.
  4. Thank you SchroedersJen I do look forward to bringing it home on Monday. I decided, or should I say it decided it's name will be Tiko. I am guessing with it telling me that is its name it is probably a male, but I will be getting the dna results probably in about two weeks. Really I am not crazy the bird named itself.
  5. You all are so supportive in here. Thank you so much.
  6. OMG I am now stuck in trying to find a name. I don't know the sex yet, but want a cool original name that will emphasize beauty and good meaning. Any suggestions. I like Talon as I have seen on this forum, but Paul says he doesn't like it. grrr.
  7. Ok then, work is what I will plan, well work along with a lot of love a patience. I will keep you posted on how it turns out as well as post some pictures of them together if that ever becomes a reality.
  8. Thank you two so much for this advice. I was going to put them both in the same room, but now will put the B & G in the living room instead. I remember when I first brought Tango home I was so scared that I wouldn't be a good parront, and you guys/gals have helped me out. It is strange how all of a sudden (after making the purchase) those same feelings of doubt came back to me. Someone yesterday (another bird owner) told me that since you are worried about it shows her that I will do fine, of course I am always a bit unsure of myself in new situations. Thanks again for this forum and all the great advice in it. You all rock.
  9. Hi everyone. I have learned so much on this site before bringing the love of my life Tango a cag home, and well now I am in need of more of you fine peoples directions. Here goes. I just bought a blue and gold macaw yesterday and will be bringing it home next week. Up until now Tango has been the center of my world, but I feel I have more love for yet another bird. Tango is going to be 16 months old tomorrow, and the macaw (who I haven't named yet) is a year old. They will both have their own cages and their own play pen perches, toys etc, but I imagine the time spent with me watching TV and kicking back will have to be shared as I don't want to play favorites. So here are my questions: Is it possible for this to happen, should I not do this, how do I know if the macaw is going to hurt Tango, and most of all will Tango take this as an act of betrayal me bringing another bird into the home? Thank you so much for you great expert answers on these question in advance.
  10. Welcome ClouandLuna, I too have my first grey named Tang. Tango has been home for about 50 days now, and I tell you he is such a joy. I am sure that you will many fun times with them. Read all you can on here. The information is very informative, and the people who have owned greys for a long time have a lot of good insight, and are also very willing to share what they know. If you haven't bought the book titled "For the Love of Greys" by Bobbi Brinker then please do so. I have found it to be a great resource in knowing how to care for Tango. Congratulations on your birds, and good luck with them. You will be stunned at their grace and beauty.

Ok now that I know they are not there because I am doing something wrong I feel a bit better about it. Thank you everyone for your input. I have been finding this the perfect place to learn about my new fine feathered friend. Thank you all so much.

    Gnats

Hi, I am having problems with gnats in Tango's cage. I clean it out daily, but about half way through the day I am noticeing little gnats in his cage. Please tell me if this is common, and more importantly how can I stop it? Thanks in advance again for help about this issue. Sincerely seeking gnat free cage.
  14. Suzzieque I am glad to hear that the beak grew back. I was having nightmares about it last night. I too get all uptight and flipped out when my animals get hurt. I sure hope I never have to race Tango to the vet. I imagine if that day ever comes I will be breaking every speed law man has made. Danmcq that is a great post. Thank you. I will try them things as well. Do you think he will hate his carry cage if I use that to do the spray down in, or will he somehow get used to it. I am thinking maybe I shouldn't have read so many books that have made me an over protected parront.
  15. Oh no. Is his beak gonna grow back? Now I am terrified again.
  16. Thanks to everyone for such great ideas. I guess I will put a towel in the bathtub on the bottom, and try that approach. I hope he likes it. I am quickly learning that he has a little mind of his own and truly know hows to get what he wants, or in this case how to not get what he doesn't want.:cheer:
  17. Hi fellow parronts. I am posting here because I have read the how to bathe your bird forum (or whatever the title was) and it is not working for me. In the mornings when Tango is on his playpen he tries to take a bath in his water. The water dish is to small, so I take him down and try to spray him with the mist part of a spray bottle. He hates it, and insists on trying to fly away. Everyday when I go into the water room I bring him with me and set him on the toilet on a basket. For the first week I left the curtain closed, but I played in there and told him how much fun I was having. I finally started leaving the curtain open (what a mess I have to clean when I'm done) in hopes that he would inch nearer the splash. He isn't though. Instead he looks at me like I am a monster and tries running down the side of the basket to get away. I also tried picking him up and bringing him in there with me. I did not splash him or get him wet, he tried to get away and even bit me. I have also put a big dish at the bottom of his cage with warm water in it and set him on the side of it. He climbs away like it is an enemy or something sparing no second in his escape. Please help with some different ideas as I know he needs and wants a bath. Desperately seeking to clean my bird without traumatizing him.

    Help Please!

ok, and thank you. I think I can tell already that I am probably gonna drive people on the forums crazy since this is my first larger bird. I jsut want to make sure I do everything right and not miss any signs of unhappiness, or unhealtyness (if unhealthyness is even a word)

All right I give you caught me. I did go to the bird store everyday without fail and did nothing but stand in front of his perch handing him food. LMAO Tonight he is doing something different. He is sitting on the side of his dish and using one foot to try to kick the food out onto the bottom of his cage. Is this normal? He doesn't do that from atop the cage perch or on the play pen either. Is my bird acting out now? Already I mean.

    Help Please!

Thanks again everyone. And um... yes I would have to say that he has already got wrapped. I will give it a few days before I get all paranoid. He is just so precious though. LMAO I gotta hand it to him he is not even 3 months old yet and already plays me like a fiddle.
  21. Thank you danmcq. I finally found the food room, and posted my question in there. I am still learning how to get around in here. Thanks again.

    Help Please!

All right then tomorrow I will leave his fresh food, and him in his cage again. Arghhh it is going to be tough thinking that he is not eating. I guess I just want him to eat his breakfast and then come out and play. Maybe I will try putting his fruits and vegetables on the cage top perch first. Thanks again everyone as I was afraid I was going to be starving him.

    Help Please!

Hi, Some of you know I brought my baby grey Tango home a few days ago, and I am already having an issue I think I need help with. This is it: He will not eat inside his cage. The only time he eats his fruits and vegetables is when I am handing them to him one piece at a time. also the only time he is cracking his seeds is when he is on the cage top or on his playpen. I am afraid that a day might come when I do not have the time to sit and hand feed him, and for his safety will have to be in his cage. What should I do to make him eat the seeds and fruits and vegetables from inside his cage. Please I am already a paranoid mom who really wants what is best and safe for Tango. Eagerly awaiting some advice. Satchel new mom of Tango.
  24. Thank you. I will look for the baby grey area.
  25. Thank you Tarnold. I spent the first hour of my morning hand feeding Tango his fruits and vegetables. He doesn't seem to want to eat them unless I am handing him them one at a time. Needless to say I got my got first real food bath today. What a pleasure to be sitting here covered in my new found loves food. Do you know if I am supose to keep posting to this thread? How is your Hershey doing?
