  1. thanks, been watching him all day, acting fine, managed several hot meals, eggs, mashed sweet potato. No more bleeding / reocurrance and he's using beak to climb around a little. So I think the emergency is under control.
  2. Help! Need know if its necessary to take Georgie my Timneh african grey to vet. Last night i trimmed his beak tip with a nail clipper a little too close, he bled for 45 minutes from a small opening in tip, finally it clotted with corn starch powder. This morning He's tired and sleepy, and would only eat some hot rice and egg white, think beak was just too sensitive to eat his cracker treats he loves. Cold tap water bothered him so got room temp water. Otherwise acting normal, doing hi fives, kissing cheek, just fatigued. Should i worry and take him to a vet? thanks Jenni
  3. thanks for the response. Yes the vet looked her over and said she was fine. i think it was just a visual exam, she said usually there is only one egg. They didnt charge me. I have 2 silver balls [that have muffled bells inside of them] that he played with all the time. a month ago he started a super clingy behavior, wanting to be perched on me all the time. Got him/her [im confused now ] a plush snuggle hut and she started staying in the hut 24/7 with the silver ball. Would the balls do for a dummy egg? I'll get some calcium and liquid vitamins
  4. Just had a near heart attack in an Uber rushing my Timneh to the vet. He was grunting in pain and bleeding from the butt. Off course 'He" laid an egg in the carrier on the way to the vet. After about 20 years we find out He is a She!!!. Didn't think that was possible. Is there anything i need to do for care post egg laying?

    We lost trust :(

wow, that's scary. I inherited Georgie (7yr old male) a year ago. He was REAL bity. I had lots of scars because i'm a petting kind of person, but i learned about him & he learned about me, so now no biting & he knows that all i want is to kiss his beak and tummy, not hurt him. Funny thing about nail care. I happened by luck, I trained him to shake my finger (hand), you know, by rewarding with seeds, and once i decided to file his needle sharp claws while putting him on his back (he likes a nightly head massage, he's SPOILED) . He SCREAMED!! wouldn't let me do that. Time passed, & than while he was shaking my hand on the training perch, i made the nail file a new game. I picked it up , touch his foot with it & IMMEDIATELY shouted cheers, clapped, the whole "good boy" routine with LOTS of seeds. After that, he didn't mind it. Now he acts as though it's about time Mom got around to my manacure! I have the best luck with new things, when I cheer insanely & feed him if he does something I want him to do. So far so good:)
  6. I just started taking Georgie out back at first, but my hood has outdoor cats, even racoons sometimes. One cat likes to hide in the hedges. My clipped grey would fly into the middle of the yard so I got a leash after seeing a parrot owner in the park with a simple spring hook dog leash hooked onto his parrots leg band. So now I'm slowly taking him out for walks near home & to the park. He adjusted very quickly, but even when i least expect it, if a car door slams, he takes flight. So i'm very careful. How do the harnesses work? I'm sure Georgie would never let me put one on , has anyone learned a trick to get your grey to cooperate while using the harness? JenniO & Georgie
