1. Kiko is six and one half months old today. I bought a scale that I keep next to his cage and weigh him in the early evening, and often a couple more times after that. His max was 504 grams (a few months ago before he was weaned and after a syringe feeding) and these days he is averaging 460 to 475 grams. Kiko has enormous feet and I get the impression that he is getting a bit bigger and putting on weight gradually.
2. PepperRIP, We lost our Grey, Alfie, last February and it was (and sometimes still is) so heart-wrenching to deal with. Time WILL heal. Yes, Greys ARE expensive and not easy to replace (we can't replace Alfie) but we were lucky enough to find (and afford) Kiko, our new Grey. This is a good place for you (and the rest of us) to visit and talk with like-minded 'bird people'. I support your idea of making a shrine to Pepper and encourage you to study about Greys and maybe think of setting up a bank account and putting money in a bit at a time and save up for your new bird. Best of luck from Walt and Karen and Kiko.
3. BMustee, Yes it was tough. I was in shock for two weeks. No kidding. Karen (my sweetheart) made sure that we visited a couple of pet shops where we could see birds and that helped and cemented our resolution to find a new bird. Kiko is a delight; a very agile climber and big for his age, affectionate as can be. I must go and let him out for play-time and to feed him. We still miss Alfie so, but now we have Kiko to fill most of the void. Love and treasure all the people and pets n your life, as we never know how quickly they may be gone.
4. Hello, We like this site a lot (Karen and I). I posted a Memorial to Alfie, our recently passed CAG and now want to say hello to this fine forum and to introduce ourselves, particuarly Kiko, our new (6 months old) Grey. I would post more at this time, but I just got home from work and I must feed Kiko and let him out for time on the playpen. Cheers to all and their birds and we look forward to becoming a part of this cyber-community. Regards, Walt, Karen and Kiko
5. On Feb. 11, 2008 we lost Alfie, our Congo Grey of twenty years. Vet said a blood clot or stroke - Alfie's health had been going down for the past year or so (feather abnormalities/continual molt/many blood feathers) and our Avian Vets were unsure as to what the problem was. We were devastated. The house was too quiet without him so we brought Kiko, our new Congo, into our lives and he is a delight (hatch date Jan 01, 2008). We are committed to providing the best of care and nutrition for him. Alfie was a pretty good talker and mimic. As of yet, Kiko just kind of mutters to himself (like Popeye) under his breath but we can tell he is working on things to say and imitate. In closing this little memorial, we say "Fly high Alfie, Pookie little parrot!" Walt & Karen

Post edited by: KikoNman, at: 2008/05/29 18:10
