1. Hi Tawney, How lovely that the parrot chose you above everyone else it ever came across. You are definitely meant to be together. All the very best to you both. Carol xx
2. Hi. I think it sounds like your Smokey has fabulous fun!! Carol
3. Hi Pooky, I got confused when I was trying to put a photo in yesterday. I think that if you push 'preview', it doesn't show the photo. If you have followed the instructions above and you push 'submit' then you should see it there. That's what happened to me anyway. Carol
4. Hi Larry, Welcome. I am a new member myself and joined last week only because my grey [who I have had for many years] became seriously ill and I was looking for a bit of advice. I got FAR MORE than that and the guys here saw me and my family through a very difficult week until we came out smiling at the other end! I was sorry to hear about the house fire. It must have been awful. Hope you find the grey you are looking for real soon. Carol
5. We just got back from the Vets. All went very well. It is absolutely gorgeous weather here for a change and perhaps a bit too warm for the animals but that place was so busy and it was mainly feathered friends. Anyway, the vet is very pleased with Bobby's progress. We just have to keep the meds going for 6 weeks and I have to go back in 1 month for a check up. His weight had increased by 4 grams this morning so that's cool! She breathes a big sigh of relief and settles back down to normal life.. AT LAST!!! Carol
6. Here is a picture of Bobby taken just a few minutes ago. You can see that he has a little bit of a bare chest. He had plucked a few feathers before but it wasn't this bad. I'm not worried about this at the moment because he isn't pulling now and I am sure he will be back to his normal handsome self pretty soon You can also probably make out a little bit of fluff at the top of his left leg. This is where the drip was. If I get chance and remember, I'll post another one next week so we can see if there is any difference. Carol

Post edited by: c_s_k22, at: 2008/05/11 22:42

At the zoo

WOW.... beautiful!
9. Thanks everyone. Matthew and I have been like new parents all over again.... is he too warm, is he too cold... should he be doing this, should he be standing like that....lol. Bobby has been very quiet and seemed to be giving us the cold shoulder yesterday but he is much better today and a bit more lively. I weighed him this morning and he was 444 grams. I think he's lost a fair bit of weight [duh.... obviously] :silly: I intend to weigh every day at the same time to see how he goes. Anyway - so far so good! Carol xx
10. Oh WOW... she is just so gorgeous
11. I think that's a great video. Only thing is my reflexes are far too strong . I'm gonna give it a go next time though. Thanks. Carol
12. I weighed bobby this morning for the first time ever and his first day back at home after his illness. He weighs all the fours.... 444. He has definitely lost quite a bit of weight so I will be checking every day. Carol
13. Our grey does his first poop of the day [the biggie] on the loo which is lovely! He doesn't really care where he goes the rest of the time though....oh yeukkkkk what was that I just trod in......... lol
14. lol Dave.... ok I'm convinced!!
15. Is this a mating ritual? Sounds like it to me but the experts will know for sure. Bobby does something similar with Matthew and if he goes on long enough, he ends up depositing his little gifts of food all over the place! Carol
16. I have started a new thread now that Bobby has come home..... not sure if I have done the link right but here it is: http://http://www.greyforums.net/forums/african-grey/76149-bobby-is-home.html#76149
17. Hi everyone, Thought I would post this to a new thread so that I can put the old thread well and truly behind us. I picked up Bobby from the Vet this morning. He is tired and still a little weak and very, very quiet. it's like he is in shock, the poor mite. I'm not surprised after all that has happened to him. Matthew had to go to work this morning so Bobby was home when Matthew got back. Bobby was soooooooo pleased when he saw 'Matty' - that brightened him up no end. He is now trying to get his feathers cleaned up - he was on the floor for much of the time and consequently, he's a bit dirty underneath!! He had a bit of orange which we've never seen him enjoy so much and he seems to be loving doing the old familiar things. I'm sure he'll get better ever day. Dread taking him back on Monday for a check up - he's gonna be ever so angry with me!! Anyway, a last thankyou to everyone who was so kind and supportive during his illness. I honestly gained so much strength from you all. Thanks - you are all really special people and your babies are lucky to have people who care so much. Bless you all. Carol, Matthew and most of all Bobby xxxxx
18. Where do you get this red palm oil? I have had a quick look in a local health food shop but they don't do it there. Is there anybody here in the forums from the UK that buys it?
19. Ooooh congratulations Amanda. Dying to see the pics.... and hope you have a peacful nights' sleep! All the best Carol
20. Have you had problems previously with poor plumage and found some solution that has improved your grey's feathers? What do you do to keep the feathers healthy and fabulous? Carol
21. Oh Jopalis, I'm sorry to hear about Tobie. I hope you manage to make her more comfortable real soon. It's such a worry isn't it. While my Bobby has been so sick, he has been kept in an incubator at the Vets and now he is coming home, the Vet wants me to keep Bobby warm. I guess its more important to keep him out of draughts and in a stable environment rather from cool to warm and then back to cook again. In the incubator, he wasn't on a perch but on the ground on a lovely fluffy towel and when he did a poop, they just put a clean towel in. Apparently, they had put a perch in but he got angry with it and dislodged it and banged it around the incubator! That was early last week when he was real poorly too! All the very best to you Jopalis and Tobie. Carol

Post edited by: c_s_k22, at: 2008/05/09 19:35
22. Our baby IS coming home tomorrow for definite!! The Vet is really pleased with his progress. Another 24 hours and Bobby is even stronger than yesterday. U have been busy disinfecting cages, sorting through toys, shopping for fruits, veggies and other bits and bobs..... and you know what...? I am nervous. I was telling Dave007 that I feel a bit incompetent now... you know what I mean.... at the end of the day, we are responsible for what our babies play with and we let him down. It has been a very hard lesson to learn but learnt it we certainly have. Still, Bobby is well on the mend and coming home tomorrow! He will be popping back to the vets on Monday just for a check up. He will be having his last injections tomorrow, at least for some time but he will be on anti-biotics for six weeks. Thanks once more to all of you for your help, encouragement and powerful prayers through this last week.... crikes it has been a long one - seems like I have known you all for ages. Anyway, I will update Bobby's web-site soon after he comes home... I'll probably add a page giving details of his week in the hospital and some post-illness pics over the next few weeks. His web-site can be found at http://www.bobbytheparrot.btinternet.co.uk and I shall definitely be adding a link to the grey forums. All the best. Carol
23. Thanks both of you. Will follow your advice and keep a record of daily weigh-in for two weeks or so and then weekly after that.
24. How often do you weigh your grey and what do you use? I have some scales with a flat stainless steel plate thing which I think would be good. I never weighed Bobby before but I think I'm going to start weighing him every week.
25. Oh congratulations. When will your little chap be coming home with you? Carol
