  1. Pat , I am so sorry . I have a corner perch om my birds cage , it is metal and he goes there to play . It would be a safe place for her and big enough for her to sleep without falling . Dr.Foster and Smith sells them . I hope you can find someone to help her . I will be thinking about you guys . Kind Regards Mary
  2. Hi Pat , poor thing , how frustrating !!!!I agree , I would take her to the vet 's office . Is this your regular avian vet ? On the cornbread birdie bread , I just made some with chopped apple , smashed banana's, baby food carrots, sweet potato, rice (COOKED)rasins, nuts ,wheat germ , low sugar granola , and sprinkled pine nuts and dried cranberries on top .So you just make the base out of the instructions on package and throw in what she likes. However , you could try some rice, banana, and chopped up apple just to feed her from your hand, the Mommy touch .It would probably make her feel closer to you ... I am really concerned with this vet office , I would just take her in the morning as soon as they open if you can find out he is in the office. In my prayers and thoughts, take care of you and hubby also ... Mary
  3. I like the way his eye is looking right into the camera, looks very alert, like a Grey . Just adorable. Many Congrats... Mary (bettyboop) It's not who you are but what you do that defines you .........
  4. Hi Judy, So glad that little one found a good home . Thank you for sharing that story . Mary
  5. Those are good ideas, there is a yahoo group that when you find a bird you post and when you loose a bird you post . I am a member of that group only because if one ever needs to post about a missing bird (GOD FORBID )it helps in advance to know where to go ASAP ...And I wanted to be able to help someone , like if a bird shows up missing in my area , I can look out for it . I can't imagine loosing one of my fids , I would not be able to function not knowing where they are , you know . Take care , Mary
  6. I keep my thermostat on 72 degrees year round. My birds are young and I havent heard anything about keeping them warm....But follow what the vet advises. I understand about their issues with new things in the cage , just try to make her feel loved , safe , and comfortable..... Mary
  7. Just curious , to what depth does one go to , to try to find an owner of a lost bird ? I have never found a bird , but I would do everything I could to try to locate the owner as I would want someone to do for my birds. Has anyone ever found a bird and was unable to locate the owner, did you keep the bird ? Mary
  8. What about placing a bird safe block of wood in the small cage you have and she will rest on the wood , it's only for the night . In the morning she can go back to her regular cage with perches down low . Dave's suggestion for papers over a towel will work perfectly. Keep the faith . Mary (BETTYBOOP)
  9. Hi Sunny, I just checked the yahoo lost and found parrot group and typed in "lost Indian Ringneck California " four post came up about lost IRN's in California. I am not sure how far these birds could fly but most of them are very recent post . Bettyboop
  10. Sunny, I own an Alexandrine which is related to the Ringneck . Quarentine as the others suggested . These birds do not mix well with other species , they might at first but after an adjustment period can become very cage protective and do some damage with the other birds. They love to chew on wood and love seeds along with veggies. I will look on the 911 parrot group and see about a lost RN. Bettyboop

Hello LYRIC I wanted to let you know that when Sammy came out to play yesterday , I offered him apple , almond , and some carrot sticks which he gobbled down quickly . It really did make a huge difference in his over all attitude . He was calmer and less nippy . So thank you for the GOOD TIP. Kind Regards, Mary
  12. Hang on Carol , Lets all keep the faith for our birds and everyone else and their birds . I believe in prayer for animals ,you know ,Noah and his family only needed a big boat not an Ark . I am praying for all of you . Mary
  13. Hello , I do hope Tobie improves . I needed to do something to improve my Alexandrines diet , she was refusing to eat her veggies, so I used cornbread mix , I try to buy organic but it is off the shelf so fast , I usually can not , I use the regular and add veggies , fruit , Harrisons fine pellets , nuts , banana smashed , baby food , anything to get some good food down her . She loves it , I serve it in the paper muffin cup and she eats paper and all . She is a paper freak as well as a bread freak.I use applesauce in place of milk , sprinkle chopped nuts on top. Our Grey loves them also .It's like a whole meal served as a muffin ...They freeze well . As far as cushioning the bottom of cage , just lower the purches and place the paper under the perch only or a small pillow , something that can be washed. Does she have a sleeping cage , my birds do , they love it. that way you could lower the perch almost on the bottom . Just a few thoughts. Good luck . Bettyboop
  14. Carol , I am so sorry Bobby is sick , I do hope and pray he will recover . I apologize for hammering in on the Harrison food , rather than being concerned about you and your bird , please understand I have lost a Grey and just switching over to Harrisons and hearing something alarming was a bit scary . I understand your panic, try to remain positive and keep the faith . I will be thinking about you both . Please keep us posted . Just one question , what kind of water is he drinking?I have been hearing some bad things about tap water lately . You might have your water checked . Just a thought . Kind Regards, Mary
  15. Hi Sunny , There is a lost parrot yahoo group . I bet if you list this little one , someone might become very happy . Good luck , BETTYBOOP
  16. Welcome Di, This is a very kind group who have helped me with my Grey.So please ask questions... Look forward to hearing more about your new bird... Bettyboop
  17. Carol, are you saying this is due to Harrison's food . Has this been confirmed by your avian vet ? My birds are in the process of switching over to Harrison's. Mary

Hi Lyric, Oh no , I want all the tips anyone has to offer . Thats a thought , I will try the treat , I don't think he is bored, I make toys all the time . Weekly , and rotate everyday ....I am always exposing him to new textures , shapes , colors, ...I know how smart this guy is . He watches me one time with a mechanical toy , that is new and he acts fearful of , then when he sees what to do with it , he is ready to play with it . Thank you so much Mary (BETTYBOOP)

Just an update , we have made some changes which seem to be helping .Instead of stepping Sammy up when he comes out of his cage, we allow him to come to us and we do not allow him higher than our elbow . He flies over and we just hold our arm out and he lands perfectly and hangs out . He has not attempted so far to bite or nibble on us .Maybe we were rushing things by stepping him up , this way it allows him to be on us when he is ready . We do return him to the cage top or playstand if he flies to our furniture , This is off limits with all of our animals . Take care and if anyone thinks we are doing something wrong , please say so . Best Regards , Mary (BETTY BOOP)

Thanks Dave ,how can I break all of this . Is there hope ? Like I said , he is so fast , even when he is in my lap, head down, cooing, from head and neck scratches , he will flip that head around and bam it's done . I am bleeding ..Just like a bully !! Mary(BETTYBOOP)

Thank you GURU , However I am familiar with the signs . This guy just snaps and does it , when we say no , to whatever he is up to .There really isnt time it happens so quickly. My Alexandrine gives me fair warning , easy to read .
  25. I would like to add that unless birds are dirty , getting into oil or something really dirty , why would you use shampoo . If not rinsed out completly , having soap residue on their feathers might make them feel dirty and cause an over preen or plucking situation . Also before using the sink to bathe next time , just use plain white vinegar to clean and rinse out prior to placing her in to bathe . I use white vinegar to clean in between deep cleanings on toys etc...It is safe around birds. Mary
