2. Hey everyone. Haven't checked in for a while, so I thought I'd post a pic that I took the other night. This is Yogi (our four year-old Congo) with Ace (our five year-old house cat). Hoping everyone is as excited as we are about the arrival of Spring! ...Mark

Post edited by: wheelingwv, at: 2009/03/28 00:54
3. Thanks to the Administrators, for maintaining a great website for Grey lovers! After sifting through the posts on this subject (and careful consideration), we have decided not to clip Yogi's wings. There are three reasons: 1) we have two cats. George, our oldest, could care less about Yogi (our 3 yr-old CAG). They even seem to "get along" at this point. Ace (our younger housecat), however, would love to get his claws into Yogi. For that reason, Ace is never permitted access to Yogi when he is out of his cage, and George is only allowed to be around Yogi under close supervision. 2) We have strict rules in our house about keeping doors closed. And... Yogi lives upstairs, and we only use our downstairs entrance for going in or out, so this isn't really an issue (Never any open windows). And finally, 3) Yogi loves to fly. I'm always reminded of Richard Bach's "Jonathan Livingston Seagull" when I watch Yogi make his rounds. Birds were meant to fly, and African Greys like to be "in control." It goes without saying, that any Grey owner should "Parrot-proof" their home before allowing their best friend to fly. There are many issues that musr be considered when making a decision to let your Grey fly... safety and escape are among the most important. As for Yogi, he loves to fly and we are more than happy to oblige. Just my two cents... Mark
4. Hi Satchel, and welcome to the best site on the web for African Grey lovers! I haven't been here too long, myself, but can testify that everyone here has a common thread: we all love Greys! Welcome aboard!
5. Welcome Stan and Tequila! This a great terrific site with bunches of great people, I'm sure you'll love it here!
6. Here's a pic of Yogi (our 3 yr-old Congo) taken the other day, after his bath. We have yet to acclimate him to the bathroom and shower, but he sure does love his spray bottle! Have a great day, Grey lovers! ...Mark
7. Hello Everyone! I couldn't remember whether or not I had posted this pic taken a while back of Yogi, our three year-old CAG. He loves DiCarlo's Pizza (famous here in the upper Ohio River Valley). ...Mark

Post edited by: wheelingwv, at: 2008/08/02 22:55
8. Hi Judy, Thank you for the warm welcome. We have had Yogi for about a year now. We purchased him from a pet store here in east central Ohio. After some research, using his leg band info, I was able to contact Rick Jordan at Hill Country Aviaries near Austin, TX (formerly the Dean Parrot Farm). Rick confirmed that Yogi was, indeed, born there on May 21, 2005. Rick informed us that Yogi's parents were both "wild-caught" Congos, so he couldn't give us any info on them. He did say that he had hand-raised Yogi. We also have two cockatiels, two cats, a rather large burmese python, a Sonoran gopher snake, and a tank full of tropical fish. Yogi quickly became a treasured part of our family. He is very outgoing and very quick to pick up new words and phrases (He talks his head off, actually). Thanks again, Judy, for the warm welcome. ...Mark (wheelingwv)
