  1. I am looking after (safehousing) three macaws and getting bitten daily... owies I think I deserve some sort of medals
  2. Hi, it has been a very long time since I have posted on here sorry but hello guys I don't have a parrot at the moment but am volunteering with a charity to help birds and vaguely remember reading on here something about using clay on birds that pluck? I have been looking for the thread but can't find it can anyone shed any light on this or direct me the correct way please Thanks, Dave.
  3. Dave, why don't you come back and post again especially if you still have a grey or have another one, you have been missed.

  4. With bathing, me and my partner used to just take cleo in the shower with us and sit her on the rail so she gets all steamed up and then making sure water is a nice temperature for her we wouldjust plonk her under it, she would go crazy for like a couple seconds fly onto my shoulder andlook at me like "that was too pleasant" and we did that for about a month a couple times a week and now she is actually ok with the whole showering thing and puts her own head under the water to get a good ol' soaking I hope you find a way to wash the wee one as it can be frustrating. Godd luck Dave
  5. My grey bites when they don't know someone to well or are not acustomed to them, the best way of over coming this is to get maybe a guy who has tough skin and let the bird bite him once bitten say no bite then after that get the bird to step up onto the person this is what we do with our grey. we are just getting her to be used to others around her and not just me and my partner. i hope you get this sorted another thing we found is if you give the visitor sunflower seed and show the bird this and make the bird steo up on them to get the seed this is good aswel. good luck.
  6. cleo was really friendly i have a photo of them both on my shoulders buzz will prob try and eat cleo the softy haha. thanks for the warnings tho shall keep that in mind ill try and post photo and see how we advance
  7. well because we voiced our concerns, she wont be welcoming to our return at all, but i will go in and get pictures. i just cant believe how she was yelling at us going 'are you saying i dont look after my birds!!' that poor conure, she looked unhappy, i wanted to take her home so badly, but they wanted £445 for her and a little cage and thats just too much for me.
  8. I have had a bad experience with 'The Ark pet store', their animals are not cared for properly, i am so appalled by them. Upon seeing a poor sun conure (who they got the breed wrong) with no tag, in a small cage that had not been cleaned with very scruffy, tattered feathers, feeding off sunflower seeds. i immediately went to the director of the store and asked if she could negoiate a price regarding this poor bird as it looked in bad condition. She started to yell and questioned my intelligence, asked if i knew anything about birds and continued to be extremely unprofessional. She told me the bird was going through a moult, it was very obviously stressed out and having a bad time with its moult. she would not considered negoiating a price and continued to be rude and yelling, upon abruptly leaving. We then passed her on the stairs on the way out on which she immediately started on me and teresa again. We have had bad experiences with them before, our canary we bought from them they had gotten the breed wrong and then spelt it wrong, they had sold us a chinchilla and told us it was first female, then male, and then promised it was female... on which we ended up with a male after teresa sexed it herself... not good, we already had a female!! Every bird in there is scruffy apart from the canary and budgies in the big aviary. The poor parrots look awful. Also the food they sell is the unhealthiest of its kind for parrots, all sunflower seeds and peanuts, with one of two chillies and some dried banana, plenty of monkey nuts. Being so appalled by them, i asked the director for her full name and told her we would take this to the law for verbal harassment. She seemed a little unnerved by this, but i got the details and immediately walked away. Apart from this, my next step is reporting them to trading standards, but i would like to know the best site to go to, a link perhaps? i dont want to write to the company directly, i want them reported. Those poor animals, none have had their shots and a bunch of parrots there have no tag or a tag that you can tell is a cheap rip off by the company, not even colour coded and is sold on their site, i saw this on their african grey, who had mishaped feathers on his back. i need as much advice as i can on this, a bunch of reviews i have seen on this company have mainly been bad ones and i want further actions, these animals dont deserve to be looked after by a company who only think of profit and dont have the knowledge to have the animals best interests at heart!!!!
  9. Me and Teresa got buzz to sit in the sink while she bathed him and he sat on our hands and arms and i even got him to sit on my shoulder while i walked around for ages while loud mouth [cleo] was on the other. This was the first day we really tried to tame him aswell He is now sat on the light fixture thing i can't think what they are called ... light shade i am being told??

  14. Hey Dan you were saying about the reptile lamp we have its CRI is 98, the spectral peaks are between 500 and 640 like diagram 2 shows i think, the colour temp is 6700°k that is 200 higher than one of your "prescribed" bulbs and the hours life is 8000h i believe which is lower than your strips but it is a cat A energy effiecient bulb. We were mainly interested in UVB for VitD while she is being introduced to pellet and for feathers, she probably isnt going to be mated so don't think we need the UVA as it is so mother birds can recognise thier offspring i am lead to believe ?? Do you think this bulb suitable my lighting guru?
