We just got Clëo to lay on her back in my bf's hand, she didnt stay there past 30seconds but thats such an advancement on having her only 2weeks. I think she's just a bit too confident in herself
-
Clëo really doesnt like veg, perhaps try many different types, like I have found out she will eat broccili, but carrots are a toy! lol.
-
Clëo hates frozen veg, then again she doesnt like veg much at all! but frozen is fine, keep in mind that veg loses a lot of its nutrients when it is frozen and reheated again.
-
haha they definately do justify the acting like children debate, bless her:silly:
-
Ah thanking you, definately helped, I've been having to vastly change her diet to give her as many different things as possible, the little one really doesnt like veg, and would rather steal a chip though she knows she's not allowed :pinch: and she will not eat anything with her daily vitamins sprinkled on top, talk about a fussy eater!!! though funnily enough she'll gulp anything with calcivet on it, its quite sweet tasting lol, she's a junk food addict methinks, have to watch her veeery closely.

Roughly what percent of greys do eventualy talk ?
Nekkyousha replied to mervyn2233's topic in The GREY Lounge
Haha, I sure hope so, the main reason i wanted more greys is because it just amazes me on their vastly different personalities! Will have to be down the line as Clëo has created lack of animal funds lol. I'm a sucker for more animals -
My CAG loves to sleep on her swing, it rocks a tiny bit as she's keeping balance so maybe she likes the motion? my canary does the same thing.
-
ah yes that what i do for my grey a couple times a week, i put it in her water Ive heard some horror stories of greys dying of not being able to digest the cuttlebone!! has scared me a little  so ive avoided it altogether and given her a different kind of calcium supplement.

cool like I said it's most likely down to the bird plus the way they're brought up. Grey's are too smart not to talk, they want to be involved in everything!! it's so great all of your greys talk! talk about a big conversation! I really hope to get more greys down the line, but whether this would affect talking ability has crossed my mind, its good to hear this shouldnt be a problem :silly: -
Bit of a debate, but should you feed your grey cuttlebone?? I've heard that things such as cuttlebone and oyster shells are harmful to greys in the long run like they are for humans. Also, do they need a supplement to grind and digest their food for them?? some say they do, others say they dont, i've known owners to never give their grey this supplement, others reguarly give their greys cuttlebone. Bit confused here, ive done research on it, but im getting a 50/50 response, nothing certain. What do you do for your grey??
-
Oh my god, now I'm freaked out, i've used a hair dryer to dry my CAG a few times, am definately going to stop that!! towel for her, if my ferrets got a towel to themselves, so can my grey ^^ but im running out of towels!! lol

and to add to that, I suppose other birds would affect it, like our grey may find it easier to communicate with other birds than to learn your sounds, it has been said that a grey on its own is more likely to talk than if it has a companion, i can see the logic in this but it isnt always true. If a grey is on it own, it has you and only you to communicate with. My CAG tries to sing with my canary every morning, she tries really well to do this rather than learning to say hello. She is getting there, but i couldnt tell you if i never had my canary she would already be speaking, maybe it down to luck of the draw, what your grey decides is better. -

looking at that poll, there seems to be no greys so far they havent eventually talked, they usually dont start until they are atleast a year old, and the poll shows that correctly. Tbh it's down to the individual, i see it highly unlikely that under the right circumstances a grey will not talk. To them it is just another sound to make like all the other noises and beeps they make, except with talking there is more variation. Just make sure you talk to your grey everyday, loud and clearly, repeat words atleast 10times a day. My CAG is 5months old, barely, and i repeat hello everyday and everytime i enter the room, she has definately started to mumble it already! The more loved you grey feels, the more they'll want to interact with you and please you, keep a close bond and your little should be talking away, rememeber they live upto 60-80years, at 5years of age, they are still ickle babies. -
ah lyric I have a cleopatra
-
Clëo's actual name is Cleopatra, have no idea why we called her that, went through loadsa names originally wanting a swahilli name  she was going to be called jengo. My bf likes to call her princess every now and again, so we also looked for that in a different language but none sounded nice. I looked at a bunch of Egyptian names and it seemed the most obvious! lol. We dont know if she's actually female yet, but thats what we assume by opinions on visual sexing, shall have her dna sexed in a couple weeks on which she'll probably get renamed to Leo haha.

once the fun is over with the first bowl, he'll probably go 'again again' in his head and try for the second bowl. all i can see happening with that is he'll get use to playing with his water bowls and instead create a mess, splashing around with the clamped down one trying to get that on the floor as well. perhaps its best to just get him out of the habit altogether no? just a suggestion =) may not apply to your grey, all individual. :cheer:
-
Well that is just damn sucky, i will leave you some good karma to make up for it i got two karma's woop i hope i dont get bad karma, those damn bad karma rascals:P
-
Awww zandische, mine doesnt talk yet, i cant imagine the things she'd come with. athena sounds lovely! and they certainly are like kids dan, but i dont think you could shut up a two year old by putting a cover over them :pinch: hehe, the problem being, is my canary is a type canary so not too great on the singing part, it mainly ends up sounding like laser sounds, with buzz and Clëo going at the same time, it sounds like a game of space invaders to wake me up every morning
-
i doubt your grey has the disease, especially since they were there from birth, it definately just sounds like redfactor, my grey has red factor too, they may be replaced with grey feathers after her first moult or return

birdtricks.com is the best site ive seen so far for training, but it is paid for.

i duno my CAG is 5months old and an excellent climber and balancer. The only difference i can see is mine doesnt have her wings clipped, she flies wherever she wants, and uses them to hoist herself out of trouble if she does fall. i dont see gettin ur bird wings clipped as a good idea, it helps them for many other things not just flying  each to their own, but i wouldnt expect her to be such a good balancer i guess make sure she has a soft landing
-
as i watched clëo on her perch this morning, the light was shining on her and i saw she has red colouring down two of her primary feathers on one side, I never noticed this before. i guess i wasnt really looking for it until i started reading this topic, she's definately got red factor in more places than i thought. really hope they stay after her first moult.
-
Also, it's very funny watching Clëo try to immitate the canary when he sings in the morning, she just cant seem to go fast enough haha

My grey is new so I dont really have many cute stories yet, she's becoming a little terror though lol. Like she will start biting the button or zip on my top, I will eventually say 'Clëo no!' if she continues I say 'Right back to your cage now' and then she immediately flies over to the top of her cage and starts whilstling and bouncing about as if to say 'You'll have to catch me first!' Also she's gotten into the habit of knowing where I make her tea (dont worry, it's decaf and a treat ) so whenever I make dinner in that spot, she immediately flies over to my head and starts making all kinds of noises getting really excited. silly clëo
