1. Glad to hear things are going well with Harley. Sorry I don't have any advice on the gurging. My first Grey did it too and nothing I did made her stop lol.
2. Aww, so sweet and innocent looking.
3. Whoa, sorry for all the extra posts. Can't find a way to delete them lol.

Post edited by: poodlenparrot, at: 2009/08/04 03:30

6. I currently have two parrots my CAG and a Quaker. The Quaker is likely going to live with my niece as he was originally her bird. I would like to get a baby Grey some day since all of mine have been rescues/rehomes and I never got to experience the early days, but that's far into the future. For now two parrots are plenty for me.

8. Caesar is flighted but I don't think he realizes it lol. His first owners got him when he was six months old and kept his wings severely clipped. He was owned by my cousin afterward and she allowed his wings to grow out. He did fly while she had him, however she clipped his wings before giving him to me because I have a dog and another parrot. I decided to let his wings grow back out but in the year that he has lived with me he has not tried to fly once. I'm hoping he figures out that he has the ability soon and puts it to good use. My first CAG, Piper, was five years old when I got her and had been flighted the majority of her life. She was a very confident bird and always seemed happy. She was very bonded to me and since she could fly and go wherever she wanted it was virtually impossible to not have her on my shoulder lol, but I wouldn't trade my time with her for anything.
9. Here's a bad quality cell phone video of the the new trick I taught Caesar. It only took him one session to learn it. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v69/lissakaye/Caesar/?action=view&current=04-26-09_1533.flv
10. My cousin surprised me with a HUGE order of bird food. This is the package she purchased: http://www.mybirdstore.com/SALE_ITEMS-_B_NEW_EXTRA_VALUE_FOOD_BUNDLE_FOR_MED_BIRDS_B_.html In addition to that she also bought a 5lb bag of Harrison's. Obviously, it will take a long time to use this up. I have never purchased bird food in bulk before. How should I store this? I'm thinking I should freeze it, correct? Thanks in Advance, Melissa

Post edited by: poodlenparrot, at: 2008/11/10 16:35
11. I was wondering if anyone could tell me the best, preferably cheapest place to buy Harrison's pellets online. I was going to try TOPS or Foundation Formula, but I got a sample bag of Harrison's and Caesar has taken to them well, so I'd prefer not to try something else. Thanks in Advance, Melissa
12. Thanks for your replies everyone! I think I'm going to give it a try and see what Caesar thinks.
13. Hi everyone, I'm attempting to get Caesar on a better diet. I was all set to buy his some Harrison's pellets, but then I came across TOP. http://www.totallyorganics.com/ The price is much better and it's something that I think both of my birds (I also have a Quaker) would be able to eat. I was wondering if anyone has fed this brand and what your thoughts are on it. Thanks in Advance, Melissa
14. Caesar is very tough on toys. He can chew wooden ones apart in no time, so in the end, they don't keep him entertained for very long lol. So I was wondering, what are some toys that keep your Greys entertained? I'm going to a bird fair in late August and plan to stock up.

16. I didn't know he was coming home today, but I'm glad he did. We have been trying to get him here for a long time. This is Caesar my new addition to the family. He belonged to my cousin but she can't keep him anymore due to having to move because of divorce. She was very emotional about the situation but is glad that she will be able to see him any time she wants. She had a difficult time getting him out of her old house because her husband was just trying to make things harder so he does need a little TLC. I am not quarantining because my cousin has had him for over a year and he has been in great health the entire time. So far he and Sprite (my Quaker) could care less about each other lol. Here are a few pictures.
17. Thanks everyone. I am hoping to get him home today and afterwards I will definitely share pictures with you all. For now I can tell you that his name is Caesar and he's around 2 years old although I won't know his exact hatch date until I see his papers.
18. I seriously considered naming my Quaker Pippin before deciding on the name Sprite. I'm a Lord of the Rings fan too and think the name Gandalf is great for a Grey! I understand wanting to have him sexed first though. I am one of those people who just has to know for sure lol.

20. I'm sure you guys don't remember since I wasn't very active when I initially joined, however I decided to come back and since there have been some major changes, I'll go ahead and post in this section again. Last October I rescued a five year old CAG. She was a plucker and had over a year of very little human interaction and a poor diet prior to coming to me. Her plucking was a roller coaster, but she improved quite a bit. Unfortunately, she died some time during the night of March 9, 2008 as a result of choking on a piece she chewed off of one of her toys. Prior to her death I had been considering adopting a Quaker Parrot who was badly in need of a new home. I decided to go ahead and go through with it and brought Sprite home in late March. He is eleven months old and quite a little character. Another CAG in need of a new home has been brought to my attention recently and I have decided to adopt him also. He should be joining the family this weekend. In addition to my feathered friends I also have a Standard Poodle named Savannah. Well, there you have it. I look forward to participating in the forum and getting to know you all. Hope everyone has a great weekend, Melissa

I have also read that you can tell by tail feathers, head shape and the amount of black around the eye. With my first CAG I guessed based on those things and was correct (had her DNAed), I was also correct about one I saw at a bird fair (she had been DNAed, I guessed then asked the owner), but the only 100% way to tell really is DNA or if they lay an egg.
