  1. By the way, hes a Timneh Grey... not Congo.....
  2. UPDATE: After i wrote things, i spent some time with him. Well, my boyfriend (who lives with 3 birds, but is compleatly naive about them) was talking to Char, and said to "Hey! what are you doing charlie? Stop that. you dont do that!" What was he doing? The same thing my Meyers does to me: thinks i want whats in his crop! Oh yeah,:reguritation. I thought charlie might be sick, but when he went out on his playstand, he was just lovey dovey. And the nest, is really just that (No eggs yet, but....) Well, i think i'll still call him "Charlie", But spell it "Charley" No, i really dont think i'm going to do a DNA testing. Its to expensive for a 50/50 shot of being right!!
  3. My grey, Charlie, is usually really good. I work the grave shift, so he wakes up at 9am, when i get home. When i go to sleep, around 10am, he stays quiet, but sometimes he like to talk me to sleep. its ok though.
  4. I've hade my Charlie for about 4 years now..... The owners before that had him for atleast 7. Hes a boy. Male. No doubt about it....... Well..... Just today, I had his cage open, thinking he was out. Couldent find him. Looked at the bottem of the cage, there he was. (He loves to throw his pellets to the bottom of the cage and save them for later ) A few hours later, hes still there. I thought maby hes dish was out of food. Nope, nearly full. Ok, so i open his cage, call him out. He darts up to the tops, making kissy sounds. Hes all extra lovey. I look to see what hes doing down there, and low and behold!!: I found a NEST. Yes, thats right a N-E-S-T! from his(her) cotten string toy, and ripped newspaper. Char has NEVER shown any types of sexual behavoir, nor has he had a mate, regurgitated, laid an egg, or nested. He's well old enough. I've never had him DNA tested. Its not really important. Its just weird thinking thats my big boy could be a baby girl!!:woohoo:
  5. I really want to make some homemade toys for my parrots.... But unforunatly, I'm a member of the "Paranoid Parrot Parents Club". I looked up toys on this site, and i found a topic made by Connie, with pictures of toys she bought. It really inspires me to make my own toys, but i cant get over the fear of giving them somthing that may make them sick, or getting tangled, or any number of things. Tooth brushes would be awsome, but what if they injest the brissles? I want to me them a swing with yarn, but is that yarn safe? stuff like that pops into my mind.... I got him a dog toy once, but took it out because i thought the rubber may be bad for him. Now, both my birds have lots of store made, bird toys, but as i was looking for new toys on drfosterandsmith.com, well, jeez, the prices are too highfor the time they last...lol. I think it may be easier to buy them, but i really want to make them, for their benefit, as well as fun it would be! Is anyone else as paranoid about what their birds put into their mouths as i am?!?! Or am i just weird? LOL Thanks!
  6. That is so exciting, hearing their first(Clear) words! Charlie's first word was ''hello''.... But he already knew it from his previose owners. But, when the phone rang, thats what he said! Is this a pattern? Good luck on teaching him "What cha' doin?" Char used to say that. I had to explain to him what i was doing every 5 minutes, then i'd get an "oh,ok" back.... This is the first of many, be prepared to explain yourself alot!
  7. danmcq: Thats sooo grooosss.......!! My cat eats them.. BMustee: It could have been a millipede. Whats the diffrence? And yea, the daddy long legs are cool, Ive found a few dead white spiders, and a ton of rolli-polli bugs around them. I kept him there for a few days, then I think the cat ate him...
  8. I think we may get wasps here in the summer... (Its the dead of winter now, and I mean, we havent seen above 25f in about 2 months!) But if a wasp or even a bumblebee, got into my house...... Id gather all my animals and run!!!
  9. I really would put up a picture of Scooby, and Charlie my (TAG) but I cant find the plug that hooks up the camera to the computer..... And the only pictures I have of them are from a disposable camera, but I dont have a scanner... {Feel-bad-00020072} so....... i'll figure it all out soon!
  10. BUGS!!! I HATE them little @$#@!@#$!!!! With a passion. Spiders, Cockroaches, Ants, Flies, Moths, Sow bugs and Centipieds. They can all die. I will smoosh them all... ICK!! **Breaths** Ok, now that I've gotten that off my chest, let me explain. My fiance, my kitty, the ferrets, my cockiteil, my Meyers, and Charlie my TAG and I, all live in the basement of the house. And guess what we have??!! Monkeys? NO! BUGS.....They make my skin crawl. Spiders,(These weird big white ones, and Daddy long legs.) And these Sow bugs. I have found one Centipeid since we lived here (About 6 month) and I'm glad of that! Oh, an not to mention the resident moths we have because of the bird seed. (They have 5 cockitiels upstairs, who are on seed.) The moths dont bug me, but the other bugs bug me!!! Now, and othe these harmful to my parrots? I dont find them in the cages, nore is it an infestation. Just spiders in the bathroom, and these sow bugs on the carpet.(Oh my god, i found one on my arm today, i think i woke up the whole house screaming!!) And does anyone know how to get rid of them? Gross..nasty, grahhghhhhh@!!!!!! ICK!!!! Thank you!
  11. I'm not sure what that Grape Seed is... ? I use Frebreeze onces a week on the carpet and couches. (But never around the cages.)
  12. *** You may wanna take this topic to the other parrots section of this forum*** But YES! I do have a Meyers parrot, Scooby. I live in Minnesota, and I think i got him for like $450.00...... But I got him from a neibor who takes in rescue parrot and other animals. I wanted to get a pair of sun conures, but she had Scooby out. I went up to him and asked if he bit, stuck my finger right up to him. He hopped on, and she said ys she bites, i would do that...... She looked up and there he was, climbing all over me. She took him, and he took a chunk out of her finger. She parctically begged me to take him, because they just did not like each other. My first thought was that he was a pretty ugly bird.(Notice the pun, hehe.) But now hes my love bucket. He is VERY territorial, and while everyone who comes over is terrified of Char,(My TG)they think Scooby is cute... Unil they get close, that is...... Good luck,
  13. I Charlie doesnt want to eat somthing it would like him to eat, I eat it right in front him, when he's out of his cage. Then I'll offer it to him, but take it back and "eat" it some more. But the time he does get it in his beak, he grabs it , as if to say... "Give me that! I'll show you I can eat it!"
  14. I agree that you have to be 100% aware of what gonig on with them. Its not like both cat and bird are in a little room, on the floor. Gizmo grew up with Char and the birds, and I try and reinforce that Char is not for him....... I've watched pleanty of times Gizmo stalking, and running Char, but he always falls short. I would never seperate them, but nor would I ever leave the room without either Gizmo or Charlie in tow. Charlie is out of his cage most of the day, Giz has free range of the house. Thats the way its always been. For how much I love my kitty, if he ever did anything that MIGHT hurt any of my birdys, he'd be gone.
  15. I've had Char for about 3 years, and about a year ago, my boyfriend suprised me with a kitten! I told him that if I ever got a cat, I'd want it to be an adult, so it wouldent be so wired, as little kittens are. But, when the opertunity presented itself, he got the kitten for free. I put Gizmo's (The kitty) food dishes next to Charlie's cage so he could observe the kitty without being in any danger. Char was out of his cage, on top, and Gizmo was eating. Well, Char was donig more then spying on the kitty, he was spying on his food! I watched as Charlie crawled down his cage, and just as he could reach, bit Gizmo's tail! My kitty went flying across the room, and Charlie proceeded to find out what Gizmo had. I iterveened then, but Char did get some cat food in his mouth. I of course called the vet, and he told me not to worry, that a little amount wouldent do anything. Gizmo is now almost full grown, (He was about half the size of Char when this happened.) and he is still scared around the big birdy. When Char walks on the floor, Gizmo will "Stalk" him, but he always come up short. I dont think my cat will do anything to Charlie; he has gotten more bits since then. But it is funny to watch a grown cat 2x the size of a bird, flinch at the sight of him!!!
