  1. I find it good to do something the Parrot can reply to. Like "Where's the train?" 3sec pause then "Choo Chooo" When they then know what to expect they will join in more. Plus they turn it around of course.
  2. my grey hates water sprays too, maybe trying putting a bowl of water down to see if he will bathe in there, it might be what he's used to. Sounds to me like a previously well looked after bird, and used to being handled as it didn't try to bite you. dont be afraid to spend some time together.
  3. Oh I feel sorry for the runt now, take him myself if I could.
  4. My grey used to do that all the time, now he does a sort of ducking thing where he looks like he's about to fly.
  5. You dont, you just do the best you can to keep up with it Kaan will go in the same place, most of the time. Sometimes he forgets and sometimes he just cant be bothered to fly up there. If he's sitting on me sometimes he'll give a little squeal and I know he's going to poop on me and have to shoo him up there. Funny to see him fly up there, go poop, then look down at it and say 'BIG POO!'
  6. Aw poor guy, The quiet at home now must be awful. Glad Hunters in good hands as i'm sure the previous owner is. He will settle down after a bit.

    Cold symptoms?

He's acting normal, and his appetite certainly isn't effected! It's only that I spend so much time with him that i've noticed at all. He has been doing the very occasional little bird sneeze but what I think looked like snot i've only seen once. I will get him booked into the vets anyways, he's due a checkup.
  8. Kaan has been a little bit off the last couple of days, and I was thinking earlier that his eyes seem bigger or more wide just this morning. When I got home from work tonight I noticed he had liquid which seems to have come from a nostral.... It has been very cold here lately although i have been keeping the room warm as much as possible but I read before that birds don't get colds so anyone have any ideas?
  9. I didn't know birds did mault lol Kaan looses feathers periodically as normal but in the 3 years i've had him i've never seen anything like that. Maybe spray some aloe vera in water on it. Something is irratating him there by the looks of it.
  10. Glad you got him back, I read page 1 then straight to page 11 and was so relieved!
  11. Do you give your parrot calcium suppliments at all? I have crushed oyster shells in a treat bowl for mine. Apparently they have calcium deficencies(?) which can make beak growth slower.... Saying that Kaan still has a little bit of beak peeling but not so much.
  12. wow i've never seen anyone taking a grey for a walk in the street, except for the fact that there's dangers like the one you had but they are valuable animals.... I would be worried about someone following me back and breaking in to steal it!
  13. Late at night before he goes to sleep try giving him a gentle smooth or try tickling his neck or cheeks. Sounds like each situation your trying is where your working against each other. Just stay away from the wings, the back and his feet that's where most birds dont like to be touched. And dont do the towel thing because they hate it, it's used as a kind of breaking not playing. Good luck!
  14. Kaan started saying simple things at about 3-4 months and by a years old he was talking all the time. Enjoy the peace while you can! lol
  15. I really hate the 'towel' business, basically what it does is break a birds will and I believe it wILL lead to anxiety and plucking. You dont want your Parrott to scared to move or speak because he's scared he will be put through that, they're charm and attraction is they're free mind and spirit as far as i'm concerned. It's like beating your partner for doing something wrong. I'm not saying your being cruel to your birds though, it's just what you've been told to do. And that whole dropping it on the floor thing...! If your bird bites say 'No bitting' and put him back in his cage and keep your back to it and ignore it that's worked out great for me. Go back in and hour let it out and go through it again. I can see you love your bird and you'll work things out fine! I wish i'd gotten Kaan used to the harness when he was younger he's only 3 but I doubt he will ever get used to it now. He just rolls on his back and spends the whole time trying to remove it Plenty of good people here to help you through things, all the best!
