Sorry guys, My eyes hurt after looking at all the succesful project pictures of playstands made from pvc on the forums here.Every now and then I see sopmeone is professing that pvc is detrmimental to Greys and that we are only to use CPVC ( the brown stuff right?) .. Id really like to use regular pvc if its ok, but if its going to pose a threat to Chloie ill def use the brown stuff. Thanks In advance.

Rickster here, I was once the proud owner of a Congo african Grey named Chico, whom I lost during a nasty seperation. My Girl and I laid a deposit on a Tag about a month ago, and Brought her home Yesterday. Her Name , is Chloe, and something tells me, this little package is going to be a fireball....

hello guys, Ive been a member for awhile but haent been on for a while as a i lost my grey in a nasty seperation about 2 years ago.Its too bad the chicocoldnt tell the judge who he wanted to live with,, as he had bonded with me. Im now looking at getting a timneh ( i had a congo) and have been reading but unable satisfy my questions, so id like to ask people who own both: 1. do they have the same talking ability/capacity and do they actually use it. 2.will it be more likely top take to everyone in the house ( kids, girlfriend etc) 3.are their voicing as clear or any different? 4. do they bond the same way .. regurgitate etc..with one person? thanks in advance.

bought scales today..460 grams ok for a cag?
rickster replied to rickster's topic in The GREY Lounge
His previous owner was feeding all seeds.I bought him the 4 lb mixed bag of dr fosters and smiths (pellets, seeds , dried veggies, fruits, vitamins all inclusive.Well, he just picked the seeds out and left the rest, now hes eating a few pellets so i bought him a bag of zupreme pellets and this morning i tried a ratio of 4 to 1 pellets to seeds and he didint seem very happy with me but he ate some of the pellets and then started throwing them out of his bowl to get to the seeds :pinch: so .. to make a long story short ,, im working on it....at his pace ..LOL.I also got him a gallon jug of the aloe juice and a 1 lb jar of red palm oil yesterday...so im learnig a lot from this website. Its great. Thanks for your help love.<br><br>Post edited by: rickster, at: 2008/03/27 06:11 -

Thanks for the thread love. Its just what I needed.I think Chico is pretty healthy then. -
Just got a digital scale today and was wondering if 460 grams is ok for a cag?

Well, im not going to buy from him now.But you should know that if you google exotic birds , he is the first link you get.I talked to him on the phone to find out more and he says he sells thousands a year.He has just about everything you can think of.When i asked him about how safe it was he said the bird is in good shape when it leaves here and its guarnteed and insured through the airline...etc, etc etc..Anyways, I think your right. The bad thing is he sells a lot of birds this way just look at his website www.exoticbirds.com and the prices are ridicoulus. Can someone suggest a breeder within an hour or so of state college or altoona pa?

My wife and I are considering buying a baby timneh. My question is, how young is too young? Is it too much risk to accept a bird that is only two weeks old? What special needs would he have besides formula? We went to http://www.exoticbirds.com/exoticbirdprices.html and were thinking of buying from him.

should i be able to feel my birds keel bone?
rickster replied to rickster's topic in The GREY Lounge
thank you bmustee, i geuss im being a little anxious and i dont have a scale to weigh my bird on a daily basis yet but its the next thing on my list. -
When i put my cag on hius back he makes a popping noise.I think its coming form his tailbone but im not sure.is this normal.I know he is mad and dosent like being upside down but were working on that.

Should i be able to feel my birds keel bone when i lay him on his back. Also, when he is mad he is able to make a clicking type noise when i have him upside down, it may be coming from his tailbone but im not sure, its more like a popping. Are these things Normal? Thanks

but he will only step up after i get him out of his cage. Before he would come on top of his cage and hollar for me.Now he runs in his cage when he thinks im going to pick him up.After i remove him from the safety of the cage he does step up for me and will sit with me around the house.I was just wondering if this is enough to keep him from being as vocal as before?
-
Ok, since my cag clipping (Last saturday) he has been pretty much cage bound. At first he came out a time or two but then he would run when he saw someone coming. Before his clipping he would boogie out of the cage as soon as you opened the door.In the last 3 days or so he just sits on his top most swing in his cage and is rarely vocal.I know that being non vocal can be a sign of sickness but Im watching him in hopes that hes just severly pissed. He has fallen a few times and he cant flutter very well since the bad clipping he received ( which I wont get into in this thread).I geuss I just want confirmation that he is really mad and not trusting his body anymore.Would that keep him from being vocal too though? He will only come out when i towel him. Then hell come down and sit and have a snack but the only thing he says too me me now is the fart noise whne i move to pet him or talk to him or when i leave the house hell say bye bye , I love you .. ( his usual).. should i just keep being persistant in getting him out and give him time to get use to his new sitauation or leave him alone and wait for him to come looking for attention? Thanks in advance

Chico has been cage bound since the clip.He will come out if i get his favorite things. He will come on top of the cage and you can see he wants things to be the same but he runs when i try to pick him up now.I think he dosent trust me now.I geuss ill just give it some time.

After careful consideration I chose to have my cag clippied today.I read several didnt articales on clipping and then took him back to the person I bought him from to have him clipped today. She did a horribble job despite her best intentions. He cant flutter to the floor as she cut all of his primary flight feathers.I think I could have done a better job but wanted to see it done once.I feel so bad now because he drops like a rock. How long will it take his feathers to grow back in? Anything I can do for him to meanwhile?Ill pad his cage bottom, and be extra careful in his handling.the only good thing that came from this clipping is he seems a little more dependent on me and I was able to stick train him a little bit today. He usually just flys away from it.I thought it was a good idea in case another family member had to handle him in my absence. Thanks for looking.
