I have a 14 week old, I brought her home when she was about 12 weeks, she has been great, just like a little baby

Joe when you talk about having authority how do you go about doing that with out affecting your relationship with your bird negatively, I want her to trust me always

Teluhla is about 13 weeks old now, she is still eating her baby food twice a day, but she really isn't that interested in it in the morning any more. She eats anything else I put in front of her, she will play with anything and go to anyone. The only problem is she really doesn't "play" with me. She likes to be out of her cage but she really doesn't want a whole lot to do with me, she doesn't laugh or anything so I really don't know what to do with her. I have never had a parrot befor and I am so used to dogs that you can interact with, am I doing something wrong?

I was wondering if your greys ever have off days? I went and got Teluhla out of her cage this morning and something was just off with her. She was a little cranky and skittish, she was just not really into me at all, usually she is all over me and wants to snuggle and give kisses. She just seemed nervouse, any ideas?

My baby is missing one toe and another one is just a little stub, she does just fine, the breeder said that lots of times it happens from the parents dont worry!!!

I desperatly want to potty train my Teluhla. She is about 13 weeks or so now and she just poops everywhere!!! Any advice on how you guys did it would be great. We have been saying, oh you pooped! everytime she goes so that hopefully she will recognize the word with the action, and we are trying to watch for the poop dance, unfortunalty the dance and the poop seem to be simultaneous. HELP!!!:lol:

That is the exact same cage that Teluhla has as her sleeping cage. Her regular cage is about 3x that size. she is about 13 weeks, and she still is taking two feedings a day although I think she is about ready to give up on the morning one. She drops her wings often too. The Lady that I bought her from said that it is ok and lots of time she does it ans then makes little grunt noises which she says are just a babies way of begging, usually for snuggles!!!

I have aquestion about teflon and non stick coating. I have heard about the danger and I want my baby girl to be safe. My husband and I use a foreman grill a lot, and several of our pots and pans are non stick, I do plan on replacing all of them, unfortunalty that isn't in the budget, today! Anyway, Teluhlas cage isn't in the kitchen and whenever I am cooking I keep her in her cage in the other room, is this far enough away from danger, or can she still get hurt?

I feed Teluhla frozen peas and corn and she likes them a lot. I have read that they are almost as healthy as fresh if they are frozen during peak season. I buy mine at the whole foods store so that they are preservative free. I do the same thing!I have started buying all organic fruit and veggies and all sorts of other natural foods, like rice cakes, instead of candy bars like before!!! Amazing how much we will change our lives for our little friends

are mutations more common in cags or tags?

I have noticed teluhla will do something after she has eaten. She will climb up into her food bowl, and sit in it, almost like she just wants to sit instead of stand. she sits down on my husband and I too whenever we hold her. Sometimes she will fall asleep and completly tip forward onto her face, it is really cute, she will wake up and shake her little head like " what am I doing like this!"

Teluhla is doing the same thing, when I bring her into the kitchen to eat she alsmost throws herself into the bowl I am mixing her formula in, then after a bite or two, she starts wondering around the counter to find something more tasty to munch on. I have just started mixing up a tiny bit of formula and having some other food available to eat as well, I am hoping this will help her to see that she has options with her food and that she can start eating big girl food whenever she wants!

My baby is only 10 weeks old and she is home with me now. I hand feed her with a spoon three times a day. I always use a thermometer to test the temp. She also gets lots and lots of other food, dried fruits and veggies, pellets, seeds, fresh stuff, and other things like rice cakes. She picks at everything but her crop is still empty at feeding time everyday. I am going to continue to feed her untill her crop stops emtying between feedings, that way I know that she is starting to eat her big girl food! Good luck I am sure you will do great

I am sitting on my couch and teluhla is sitting on my husbands lap. The thing is she looks like she is asleep, but she is laying down, not standing up. Tonight when we were playing, she kept lifting one of her wings up and blocking my hand with it. I just haven't seen her do these things before. Is this stuff normal I'd should I worry. I may just be paranoid but she is only 10 weeks so I worry about my baby

Teluhla and her new family are getting along very well. However I feel like I am at a loss as to how to play with her. When she is out of her cage she mostly just wants to sit on my chest while I am on the couch and be petted. Sometimes she likes to play with a toy or two but she mostly does that by herself. She is still weaning and she doesn't really have a favorite treat, so it has been hard to try and work on tricks with her, plus she is still pretty little. How do you guys play with your babies?

My baby Teluhla has a missing Toe and a missing toe nail on one foot. She has had it ever since I have known her, the lady that I am buying her from at the pet store said that a lot of times momma birds accidentally do that to them when they first hatch if they try to move them around and stuff. She seems totally fine with it though. My husbandand sister laught because I call it her jainkey toe!

I just wanted to share my story of how Teluhla came into my life. Last summer (06) My Dad told my sister, my husband and I that he was planning on divorcing his wife of 13 years. Both of our parents have been married more than once so we adjusted and were willing to be there for him with whatever he needed. Then this past spring (we are talking 07 now, I know just stay with me;) My dad was having a rough time and after talking with my husband we decided to move to oklahoma and be with him. He was really lonely and super excited to have us there. He lived on a lake and we had a blast together every day. It was the best time of my life. Then on June 22 he was killed in a car accident. My heart was utterly shattered. I don't even remember the two days after it happend, but being his next of kin I managed to plan two funerals for him, and take care of a mess of other buisness. We moved back to Kansas and found a place to live, my sister moved in with us, she was living with roomates befor and needed family. Then right around Christmas time I was having a horrible day. I was so sad about my Dad and so my sister took me to the local petstore to cheer me up. When we got there I saw this beautifull parrot. She was a 6 month old eclectus. I wanted her so bad, I stayed and played with her for hours and then I went home and told my husband we were getting a parrot. I think he would let me do just about anything at that point if it would cheer me up. The next day I went back to the store to find out exactly what I would need for my new freind. I was all set, I would come in the next morning and pay for her and bring her home. The next morning came and I rushed to the pet store right when they opened. One of the employees who I had been talking to about the parrot the night befor came up to me with a very sad look on his face. Someone had come in and bought her right after I left that night. I was crushed. I even cried. The bird manager came out and asked what was going on, the other employee explained to her my plans for purchasing the bird and that the parrot had been sold the previous evening. She sat and talked to me for a while about why I wanted a bird and asked me a lot of questions about my lifestyle and my home. After about 30 minutes she said she wanted to show me something. She took me into the back room and pulled down a plastic tub. I took one look in and melted. It was a tiny ball of fluff. It was my baby. Jackie, the bird lady, explained to me how she had a grey at home and how she loved them so much. This one had come to the shop and she had been handfeeding her and had really grown to love her. She wanted to make sure she would go to a good home. She offered Teluhla to me at a largly discounted price and gave me her cage and all the things she would need to come home including a months worth of food. She also said that Teluhla would need to stay untill she was weened unless I wanted to come in and learn how. I have been back every day since. I help feed her and we play everyday. She is now 10 weeks and comes home for sleep overs but stays at the shop(it's right across the street from my work) while I am working. She loves her people and the other animals at the pet store and loves to be home and have snuggle time. She is down to two feeding a day and plays with her pellets and seeds a lot. She started flying last week and so her wings have now been clipped so that she can be safely handeled at the store. I can't explain the joy that this creature has brought to my life. She grows and learns more everyday. She is amazing. I just know that God knew that I needed something warm and sweet and covered with feathers to help fill the hole in my heart. Wow I didn't know that even if their toes arn't sharp that they may still need trimming, great to know! How often do you normally trim your babies nails BMustee?

Hi all Yesterday the "bird lady" at the pet store said that Teluhla could come home, however she is still on formula. After talking to Joe I decided to leave her at the store while I am at work, but she gets to come home at night and have some time at the house with the whole family, as well as some time out of her brooder and in her cage. Last night was her first night at home, and she was an angel! She crawled all over my husband and sister, gave them eskimo kisses and snuggles, and even tried to give one of our dogs kisses. She is super affectionate. I love it! I was wondering if everyone elses birds make a little,peep/squeak noise a lot. She does it all the time, unless she is asleep or climbing all over her new cage she is making little baby noises. Is that normal? She also makes a clicking sound with her beak, is that ok? She is not really interested in her formula anymore. When I picked her up at the pet store last night she only ate about 10cc's and so when she got home I warmed up some human baby food and mixed in some pellets and she really liked it, but she doesn't ever really seem to fill her crop. Eventually she was just sucking off the baby food and spitting out the pellet, little stinker! Anyway I would love to hear any advice about babies. Thanks-Alyson

Ok here we go again

I am so happy to hear that you have a baby that is doing so well, I can't wait to bring Teluhla home. She learned how to play peek-a-boo at the store the other day when I was visiting, she would run and hide behind a cage and when she would poke her head out I would say peak-a-boo and she would run around in circles and squeak and flap and then go and do it again. It was so cute, she also said Hi when I got there, then when I put her back in her room, she started saying it over and over again, like she was saying, look mom I can talk, dont go! I can't wait to get her home and start to play more. Do you have dogs Hanna? How did you introduce Juji to hanging upside down. Teluhla loves to have her belly scratched, but I would love to be able to have her on her back so she can have a better scratch!
