  1. Three weeks in and our grey still adores her dad and I'm just a vehicle for treats. I carry her around on a wooden spoon handle to different rooms with me, talk to her incessantly, and feed her treats nonstop. I've started wearing a glove (which I believe you're not supposed to do) when carrying her on the spoon or working with her to "step up." At least the bites don't send me through the roof anymore, but am I pre-empting bonding? We've learned a bit of her history and it sounds like she was badly neglected and lived in a very dark room with an eighty-something, unstable mom, two pugs and an aggressive amazon parrot.
  2. I'm three frustrating weeks in with working with our grey who has chosen my boyfriend as her primary. The progress is slow (if not nonexistent). She bites me hard and alot. I talk to her and give her treats, alot. It seems the only option since I want to be able to handle her eventually. Good luck.
  3. Hi, my partner and I just brought home a grey four days ago and s/he is increasingly aggressive towards me and very sweet with Tom. If s/he is between us on the back of the couch s/he will take treats from me, but then sporadically lunge at and try to bite me as well. S/he's gotten a couple good hard punctures in and I'm having a hard time continuing to stay positive. Since your post was in August, I was hoping for a positive update/reply on your progress.
  4. Just acquired a grey three days ago. She seemed ok with both my partner and I initially (a bit of head scratching) but with every passing hour seems to be bonding with him more and biting me harder. I'm trying not to show my fear but can't help but be tentative towards her at this point. She's now stepping up onto partner's hand and allowing scratching everywhere on her body. All I can do is give treats without getting bitten. Prior owner was a woman in her 80s; don't know how bird was treated but it seems very healthy. Any chance the issue is gender related? Suggestions?
