  1. Matt, so sorry for your loss. I can only imagine how it feels.
  2. I am a new Grey owner. But what I have tried was to just clean a portion of Tylers cage at a time. The food bowls and paper liner all get changed/cleaned daily, but I always clean a side of the cage daily with a brush and baking soda/warm water and then rinse and dry with paper towel. I also like EZ Care Quick Clean by Kaytee. I have heard that Grapefruit Seed Extract works really well too, but I haven't tried it yet. Does anyone have any other suggestions?
  3. I have to elaborate on my last comment. I don't cover her cage all the way. I just lay a blanket on the front so she can at least see through the back part of her cage (which faces the wall) and see me when I approach her cage so not to scare her.
  4. With Tyler, I cover her cage if I want to stay up and watch TV, listen to the radio or use the computer. I do try to have a bedtime, but don't stick to it 100%. It just really depends. During the week I am more stuck to a schedule and on the weekends we are more laxed. The one advantage of covering a cage is that they are relaxed and can sleep. Although Tyler will nap during the day without the cover. I don't use the cover as a means to keep her quiet, but sometimes when she is having a fit I assume it is because she is tired so I will cover her then. It usually works, but I would assume it depends on the bird?
  5. I am a new Grey owner and am looking for really cool ways that my bird can accompany me during my outings as long as she is ready, happy and safe. Any suggestions?

  7. Ha Makena, that sounds like a great idea. I work from home, but sometimes have to go out of the house for work or just to get away. How do you do the whole internet thing so you can see the bird. I don't so much worry about Tyler, but I start to miss her and it would be fun to see what she is up to while I am away.
  8. I have a newly aquired Grey. I work from home so I leave her cage open most of the day. I feel confident that she gets plenty of 'out' time so I don't worry unless I will be gone for several hours. I also have two cats that seem to really like her and understand that she is a pet. But I would never leave them unattended alone for a periods of time. I would say if you can safely let the bird out/keep the cage open all day then go for it. It certainly wouldn't hurt as long as the bird is attended to and in a safe environment. I like the fact that my bird can be as much as part of the whole 'family' as much as possible.

  10. My new Grey was a plucker too and I was really worried at first. I inherited her and now that she has a new more attentive owner (me) I think she is done with that. I was shocked when I saw your Grey! It really makes me feel better (sorry). I sure hope you get to the root of the problem. I was told that diet and combating boredom were a big part of the problem, but it could also be physical, which it looks like you ruled out. Just give it time. Good luck.
