Hi everyone, I'm off on a long weekend jolly tomorrow and will be leaving Biggles for the first time ever! He is going to stay with my mum and dad (who are both very excited at having him) Just thought i'd ask if anyone had any advice to give to make things less stressful on Biggles? (and me!) We are not leaving until tomorrow but are going to take Biggles over to the parents this evening so I can stay with him for a little while before we go. I have already given the speech on the importance of not letting Biggles out of his cage. I feel soo anxious about going away and leaving him (which is probably just me being silly). Thanks in advance! Hugs Amy x

Post edited by: pixiexoxo, at: 2008/05/22 10:25

Biggles poos in a litter tray on command lol. We placed a normal cat litter tray (a small one) under his playstand so that whenever he comes out and we place him on his stand we tell him to "go poos!" and off he squats lolol. Gotta love how smart these birdies are

Ello everyone, Just a quick question, Is it normal for Biggles to still be doing the jack hammering thing at nearly a year old? I find it very cute but i don't want to encourage anything that he shouldn't be doing. He takes one of my fingers in his beak, drops his wings and bobs is head up and down as if he's trying to eat my finger lol. Why do they do that?! Amy x

Hi Carol, Myself and husband have been reading through your post and I just felt I had to reply to tell you what a wonderful, loving grey mum you are. We both hope and pray that lil Bobby pulls through and that he will continue to live a long happy life. I can only imagine the rollercoaster of emotions you must be going through at the moment. Bobby certainly does sound like a fighter and obviously has something very good at home worth fighting for, so lets hope that he keeps that in mind and continues to get stronger. Love and strength to you and your husband and of course to Bobby, and thank you so much for thinking about us and keeping everyone here updated Amy xx

Welcome Di, You'll soon get the hang of the forum and will soon be just as addicted to it as me  Looking forward to seeing pictures of your new baby in July Amy x

wow! :woohoo: That's great!! Well done It's given me some ideas to go make one for Biggles! We made him a wooden one on a stand but would love to make him a smaller table top one so we can take it about with us on our travels! Thanks for sharing Amy x

I agree, you should go straight outside once it is on, comfortably... Took me about 5 months to get Biggle's harness on comfortably lol  Hope Klaus is a bit easier Good Luck! Amy x

Biggles is completely flighted and will be one year old in July Biggle's harness training started pretty much as soon as we got him and has gone well. I did get a few chunks bitten out of me to start with (ouch) but he soon got the hang of it. It is just getting them used to the harness and letting them know it's not going to hurt them. I'm so pleased he's been outside now as i'm hoping he'll start associating the harness with having his fun in the sun time! :woohoo:

It takes a LOT of patience! If Gizmo isn't letting you touch him, then it's probably not a good idea to try get a harness on him yet. It took me ages to get Biggles to trust me to put a harness on him and he is very affectionate and doesn't mind being touched at all. You need to get Gizmo used to you touching him on and under his wings, lifting them up and putting something over his head. I read a fantastic piece of advice on this forum about using kitchen roll with a hole torn in it to put over your bird's head. It gets them used to having something put over their heads and is easy to tear off if they become upset by it. Praise, praise and more praise too Good luck with the training, it is so worth it, especially to see them exploring in the grass  Amy x

Hi all, Thought I would share Biggle's first trip outside. The weather was good enough today to finally take him out to the garden. Not for too long, as we didn;t want to scare him, but once he was out and got on the grass he loved it!! Looking forward to the rest of summer now!!!

Post edited by: pixiexoxo, at: 2008/05/05 15:40

To clip, or not to clip.... that is the question

I've got a harness!! Still training him to use it tho, and we're nearly there, so fingers crossed by the time the weather is good we'll all be able to go out together  -
To clip, or not to clip.... that is the question

Hi all! Just returned from my vet appointment, wings intact The vet said that she had never seen such a friendly grey that doesn't seem to be bothered by anything so clipping wouldn't really be needed, which is what i'd already decided. So after a clean bill of health and lots of compliments and women cooing over Biggles, we are home and happy Thanks again peeps, your input certainly means alot to me. Amy x -
To clip, or not to clip.... that is the question
pixiexoxo replied to pixiexoxo's topic in The GREY Lounge
Think I may have started a subject here that gets strong opinions, but hey, debate is always good! It certainly wouldn't have been a long term thing as I love to see Biggles flapping about so with that in mind I will keep him unclipped for now. Obviously, if situation changes then maybe I would have to rethink the subject. Again, thanks everyone for your input, there is definately some interesting points being made that gets the grey matter (excuse the pun) working. Out of interest, how many people here have got their lovelies clipped and what reasons are they clipped??? Amy x -

Am so relieved now to know that my worrying is really nothing to worry about :pinch: lol It's amazing how much of a huge part of the family they become in such a short time Thank you all for your wise words (as always!) and for putting my mind at ease. Amy x -

Thanks Dave, I think maybe you've just answered the question for me, and although I shall still go to the vets tomorrow, as a lil check up while i'm there won't do any harm, I think I shall leave his wings. I am just going to have to lay down some ground rules with the parents ha ha  I would much prefer him to be slightly miffed at being kept in his cage than totally devestated by having his flight removed. I knew i'd make my mind up one way or the other by coming on here and you've made me do that Dave so cheers :-) Amy x
