  3. Are Quakers good talkers? How old are they normally before the do begin to talk? Romo is a wonderful part of our family.. he is very affectionate and playful. I am curious to know more about how well they speak and how old they normally are before they begin to speak more often. I have heard that Quakers are in the top 10 of speaking birds... but have never spoken to anyone who raises them. Any information yall can share would be greatly appreciated!! thanxxx
  4. ohhh.. forgot to say, Romo does cackle like a hen and does it quite often!!!!
  5. My little Quaker, Romo.. is so cute and playful!! He isn't a one person bird either.. he loves my whole family and loves being part of the family!! He bobs his little head and grabs some toy links when he is wanting to play. He has only said one word.. Romo, so thats what we call him!! He loves to sit on our shoulders and cuddle. Being on our shoulder does not make him feel dominate.. he is just friendly. Hopefully one day he will say more words:)

  7. Thank you all for such wonderful advice and comments/suggestions Cowboy is pretty bold at the window... and feels safe and secure. We have two outside cats.. and one of them jumps up on the window and lays there. Sometimes plays at the glass with Cowboy. (of course I would not ever trust him to come in and play.. lol).. the cat meows sometimes and of course Cowboy 'meowsssssss' right back!!!
  8. Hi Yall.. I am wondering where is the best place to have my CAG's cage?!? I know to have it in a family room... my question is should it be in front of a big window? I have heard that isn't the best place but other than drafts I don't know why else you wouldn't put in front of window. I also have other birds... should they be very close together? I have Cowboy in the big main window of our family room.. and right next to him is my Quaker and across the room are our budgies. I have a stand next to my computer for Cowboy when I am online... he can't stand to be away from us.B)
  9. Terri... Humidifiers or boiling water both would help your CAG and yourself during the winter. I would go with the humidifier tho for safety factors. Lots of terrible things could happen with boiling water The dander and preening every feather is normal.. so no worries there. Its great you use aloe:) CAG's have 'waterproof' feathers so to speak... so a very good soaking when bathing them on a regular basis works best. Be sure to get them good on the underside of their wings. Regular soaks helps more than anything for the dry skin. Great topic to post btw B)
  10. I have never covered Cowboys cage... at night or to get him to be quiet. In the mornings he wakes me up and I love to hear him calling us. It brightens my day!! He sleeps all night and gets plenty of rest. As far as covering the cage to make a bird be quiet.. personally I would never do that. I love to hear my birds sing, talk or make their adorable mimicks of sounds. If I need to have quiet for a phone call I go to another room.
  11. I named my CAG Cowboy... because we were watching the Dallas Cowboys on TV and he started rooting for them!!! Cowboy is a big fan of the Cowboys!!! LOL We have a quaker thats name is Romo!!! You should here us on ball nights!!! We have a blast!!:silly: :silly: :silly:

  17. Hello to everyone!! I am so glad I found this forum!!! I have been searching the net for information on CAG's!! We are not new to birds... I have had an Amazon in the past,.. and we have had cockatiels. Both, we adapted out to good homes due to travel. We have settled down and now we have brought into our lives and heart our newest family member, Cowboy!! We also have a quaker parrot named Tony Romo, and two budgies Jack and Purdy. I have ALWAYS wanted an African Grey.. We have had him since Thanksgiving and believe me, we are thankful for him! I will most certainly be active on this forum.. I absolutely LOVE it!! Thank you to everyone and especially the brain child of this site!!! Blessings from Lindale Texas!!! Audra & Daniel
  18. Hi.. I am new to this forum and I have been reading with great interest!! What a wonderful site!! I have a question about sexual maturity. In several of the topics of biting, sexual maturity came up as a possible cause. At what age does a normal, healthy grey come into sexual maturity? And.... is there an age that they would lose interest in ever having a mate? Thanxxx to everyone that may have an answer to my question!!
