1. So here it is all raw and open.... I had a fear a bird...almost to the point of phobia...until Radar enter my life. I get her....I understand her tells and signs. Then there is my fathers bird....I've mentioned her in previoous posts. She was my fathers bird and hated me...jealous to the point when I came into the room she made the coment "I'm a stupid daughter" (only spoke when I was around) but established a relationship with my hubby. My father passed last year and my mother is moving away to Alaska...no bird. my Hubby wants us to asborb the bird into our family....how hard will that be with another bird already established and mind you my preconcieved notions are now gone now that I have Radar....and is having two birds too much. I would love to have her even if she won't let me hold her just to hear my daddy's voice would be amazing. But in all reality I want the best for the bird. Your opinions matter let me know RadarHayes.
2. Sorry to hear your dilema..but your plight sounds familiar. I think birds are like children and we don't give em enough credit when it comes to whats going on around them. My dad's bird JoJo started making bald patches on her back and neck when he got sick. Everything else was normal, eating, talking, playtime. Yet, we think she was concerned and worried about him. As he got better so did she. I would take it as a sign that your lil LuLu loves you and is very i n tune with whats going on. Hang in there.
3. I too need to take offa few pounds. I've been telling everyone that it's still the baby weight, only problem is my "baby" starts kindergarden next year. I'm excited with what I've read about you guys and Curves, thought about going myself since they just opened a new one within walking distance from my home. A bit worried about wasting my money. I belonged to a gym before but was so self conscious about going in with the extra pounds I had (seemed more a pick-up joint than a gym) I'm joining Oprah's best life plan and going to check out curves next week (Mom's visiting this week) and I've quit smoking over the holidays this is my year to get healthy. 4. We've only had Radar a few weeks but having a blast learning her lil sayings. She pew-pews like a laser gun laughs says awwwww when I cover her at night Calls for a dog "lucky" (really confuses our dog Liz) says Dirty Bird (I think she got that from me cleaning her cage) And my favorite new one is the loud squawk (ear piercing) followed by a Radar knock it off!
5. Yes, but kinda hard till after the new year...so much going on at once. There is a 24 emergency just in case but not too worried she looks great and is acting very chipper.
6. So Radar made it in last night but was late as she missed her connecting flight. I was very concerned about what shape she was going to be in (considering one of our bags was unrecognizable and beyond repair with our last flight). But, much to my elation not only was she in one pice she was very excited to see me. She immediatly stepped up and gave me luvins when we got home and was very chatty. Very hungry and thirsty too. I am happy to see her so happy to be here with no signs of trauma at all. In fact she is sleeping now with her head tucked under her wing. My only problem now is our dog and cats....they are very interested in her, but i fear not in a good way. It'll be interesting to say the least trying to blend this family. RadarHayes
7. My dad's bird will hold her claw up while taunting.."come on come on I'll knock you out"...she will then throw her punch with an evil pew, gotcha and an evil laugh. I can only hope that I can get my bird to be half as much of a character. RadarHayes

Post edited by: RadarHayes, at: 2007/12/30 07:04
8. My favorite is not with my but my father's grey "JoJo". I was house and bird sitting for them while in the bathroom getting ready to go out when I heard a loud"Help! Help! Uh-Oh! Watch out!" Upon looking around the corner I found JoJo in the top of the cage while the cat was eyeing him hungerly. Upon shooing and scolding the cat JoJo then called the cat by name with a here kitty kitty kitty and her evil laugh. Not used to Greys I almost lost it...lol RadarHayes
9. I've been reading alot on this forum...and have to say a ton of great ideas about feeding but am curious why I see a ton of chili pepper treats in the bird stores but haven't seen that as a staple in anyones diet. We live in AZ an eat chili peppers in our family. Are there any known pro's or con's? And is there a difference between fresh peppers and the treats they sell that I should be wary of? RadarHayes
10. I've been earnestly reading and sorry for the "newbie" question but what is zurpreem? And, is it easy to find? RadarHayes
11. I'm so glad I found you guys...just the little time I've been here I've gained so much knowledge! Let me tell a bit about myself....I was soured on birds when I became pregnant with my first child and my dads grey got jealous of me..(she was evil and scary) I swore I would never have a bird, even though I respected and admired just how smart she was. Well, over this Christmas we flew to my in-laws (which had too many birds) And my little Radar seems to have a distaste for men. With my Father-in-law unable to handle her I felt a tug at my heart strings. Needless to say by the end of the week she was mimicking my laugh and my favorite phrases, and very lovingly feeding me every chance she had. We flew home last night only to get a call from my father-in-law that she has been a pill and obnoxious since I left...needless to say she arrives much to my excitement tomm night! Once she is comfortable I will post a picture of us! RadarHayes
12. I am having an African Grey shipped out to me tomm. is there anything I should be aware of or worried about. Also, is there anything special that I need to do to make her feel more comfortable in her new home? Thank you for your time, RadarHayes
