  1. OMG I am soooo excited! And that was just a little beep! I cannot wait to tell you guys what he is doing in the future.
  2. Mine makes only one sound so far. It sounds like the smoke alarm beep when the battery is low. Not alot though... Last night, I came home after about 3 hours of being away and said hello to him when I came in the door. He had been quiet before this so I was told. When I passed him to go into the kitchen, he started with the beeping noise and would not stop until I came back into the dining room where he was! I think he was telling me he was excited that I was home! I hope I was not reading too much into that...Wishful thinking?
  3. Maybe it's the toys that he is playing with that is making him do this. He is not so bad with me, but with others in the house, G will leap towards them with the beak open ready to take a chunk. I think G favors me over the others already (been at my house for 3 weeks today). He does like to remove my hand from where he is if he does not want to have me there. So when he does this, I do leave him alone. Just taking this one day at a time.

    Success!!!

I am telling G that he "pooed" everytime he does this. I am hoping that he will eventually reconize this someday. I am also hoping that I will be on track to teach him in later days to be potty trained.
  5. Ok. I guess I just want him to be ok. I know I have not had this bird long but, it's all I can think about. I guess this means that I really love him. I need to make sure I take it really slow. That's what I'll do.
  6. I think I did not give a thumbs up then! Twice. OMG! Sorry Judy! I will check this out and make sure I dont give someone bad karma again. I do appreciate all the responses I get on my questions. I look forward to having some answers for someone one day. Man do I have alot to learn...
  7. Hello. My name is Tammy. I am new to the site and I am curious about what the Karma means. I have tried to click on it to se what is says but I am changing the Karma.. Someone please explain how this works. thank you. Happy Holidays!
  8. Thanks for the advise. I have put the rattles back for him. I dont know if he is stick trained. I will get one and see. He has been in my house for only 3 weeks on Thursday so I am unsure of a lot of things with him. I did not know if this was something I should expect or need to put a stop to it.
  9. I feel like I am flipping his world upside down!
  10. Great. I am going to try all of these suggestions and see how it goes. I need all the luck I can get!
  11. G is being extremely territorial over his cage now. I have notice thta this behavior has started since I found that he really likes baby rattles. He will snap at you if you even touch the top of his cage when he is out. I have taken the toys from the top of his cage and only letting him play with them while he is out with me in the living room. Is this what I need to do?
  12. How many veggies or fruits do I put in his cage and how long should I leave them in there before taking them out of replacing it with fresh? Since he is very scared of new things, should I hang all new veggies on the outside of his cage? He is very, very scared of new things. Thanks for all of your help!
  13. Hello all. Newbie here again.. I am trying to feed my bird fresh veggies as recommended but he will not have any part of it. He is an older bird and I think he has only been fed seed mixtures. Do I just keep putting fresh veggies in his cup for him and wait until he decides that he wants them? I hope I am not trying to introduce to many new things at once. After all, he has only been with me just a tad over 2 weeks. What am I to do?
  14. Thanks. I will do this with the water.
  15. Very small world. Thanks for all of this information. What web sites do you recommend? G has been playing on top of his cage now for about an hour. That's good right? Man does he love those rattlers! I think that this is the best toy he's got. I change his water every morning. Should I be putting a drop of vinegar in his water every morning? I have crushed up some pellets but he is not eating them so I will try wetting them and doing these other things you have suggested until I find the right thing for him. Should I put his regular food in there as well? I know I should not stop giving him the seeds right? At least until he starts eating the pellets.
  16. I just bought this book Friday. Tells alot about the younger greys. I like it. I am tring to implement the same information for G. Is there a book out that covers having a pre-owned older grey?
  17. I believe we live in the same area. I live near Covington. I believe you live in Eagle Rock. We pass this area on the way to Roanoke. Where do you buy your bird stands and things like that in this area? I would like to get a portable stand for him. Delivery charges for this area are outragous. As far as spraying him with a water bottle, how wet should he be getting and should I dry him off? Would I have to worry about him getting cold? What if I scare him alot. I am worried about that. I dont want him to stop progressing. How should I approach him with this spray bottle? I have placed a pan of water in the bottom of his cage. He keeps looking at it and I think he is interested. If he starts using this pan to take a bath, should I not spray him anymore or is it a good idea to go ahead and still do it? (Seems like I have never ending questions) Why would vinegar in his water be beneficial? I am trying to introduce to him pellet food with his parrot mix that he is use to from Walmart. I have read that the pellets are much heathier for him. He is not taking to well to it. I have lots more questions about his food. I guess I will wait for that until later. I am not as concerned about that as I am some other stuff like this bathing thing. We do have gas heat. We have a grate in the floor between the living room and dining room. I have placed a big chili pot of water on the grate in order to get some moisture in the air. I have seen a difference for myself and would think this would be a good thing for him too. Is there anything else I need to be doing for him other than showering him twice a week?
  18. He is scared of the empty roll of TP. I have put two of them on top of his cage. He does not like it at all. I guess he will have to get used to this first. I find that he likes baby rattles. My brother left one of his here over the holidays that his baby just got for Christmas. G absolutely loves it! I hope this is a good thing. He plays with it on the floor with me. G throws it around for at least an hour while I have him out. One good thing is, when he came here, he had no feathers on his check and the sides of his neck. Now, he has little feathers growing back. I have noticed a difference in him already. I am hoping the TP rolls will help him not to pluck his feathers too.
  19. Thank you for giving me all this information. Is there anything that I need to be doing with him that is important to his health? I see bird vitamins and such for his water. Do I need to use this? I am going at this completely blind. I do appreciate all the help I can get. I want to make sure I am doing important things with him so he is healthy. Prior owners did not tell me a thing. I am not even sure he was given a bath or sprayed down. God I am looking forward to this adventure.
  20. I will try the dish at the bottom of his cage. I wonder how he would react to me spraying him. Where do I get the aloe vera juice from? And, do you spray him with this diluted or full strength?
  21. So I should talk to him as much as I can. That is great news. What about bathing him? I have read that they need this. How does this work in with him still trying to get used to us? I want to make sure I am doing eveything I should be doing for his health.
  22. I am new to the game. I have an African Grey. I think it was born in 96 but no sure. I have had him for two weeks. He is still getting used to us so how do I give him a bath? Where do I start?
  23. Hi all! I am looking forward to getting alot of advise through this web site. I just took on an African Grey. I think now that he is older than 5 years. His tag says 96. I have had him now for two week. The prior owner asked us if we knew anyone who wanted a bird. So we started talking about it. I ended up getting him for our family. I thought he would be loud so I was unsure on how I would react towards him since I do work from home. In the two weeks that I have had him in my home, even though he is adjusting, I have found that I absolutely love him. He does not say anything yet. I have been told that he does say little phrases. I am hoping that I can teach him to talk more and say more. I work with him all day it seems like. He sits behind me in the dining room. We have a large dining room and can fit him right in. I roll my chair across the dining room to him through out the day and talk to him. I think he likes it. I am hoping to get more out of this web site than any book that I have tried looking for about what to do with him and how to teach him. I am a little concerned that since he is older, I will not be able to do what I want with him. You know, the older they are, the harder it is. I never thought I would enjoy this as much as I have in the past two weeks. Even though he has done nothing exciting. I am so looking forward to making friends in this site and learning all I can for my birds sake. I think he deserves this.
