  1. Oh, I just thought of another thing. If you found out about the breeder on a free website like kijiji.com or something, post an ad on there warning others about this breeder, and maybe to be aware and to check for reputable breeders. I know in Canada where I live there are a bunch of websites that people advertise birds, because they don't have to pay for the ad, I'd keep my eye out for her on those types of sites. Seems like she's too cheap to pay for proper care, let alone an ad to sell her birds.
  2. It always sickens me when I read anything regarding breeders who have zero concern for the welfare and future life of their animals, and are only concerned about profits. Beyond being extremely tragic and horrific for the pet owners to go through, it is ridiculously irresponsible. I'm not sure about anyone else here, but what about organizing some type of website or group to post and list breeders who have a reputation of animal abuse and/or improper care and unsanitary facilities? Even if they change their name, there should be some way to keep track of their whereabouts. I just feel like something should be done about this, how many animals and people have to suffer because of the greed of others? BAD KARMA!!! Anyway, your baby is at the Rainbow Bridge now, and don't ever blame yourself. Shadow knows you loved her, where there is an illness that makes them unrecognizable to us, in their heart and soul they still know the ones who've been good to them. I hope you're going to be okay, let us know if there is any way we can help. I would love to see this horrible person go to jail or at least get a fine for this.
  3. I'd be also very wary with the other birds too. Just because I've seen Zeus lunge at the lovebirds when they have their out time, and I shudder to think how fast he'd injure them if I weren't monitoring. Although, mind you, Azuli (one of the lovies) landed on his cage the other day and he seemed very friendly with him. He HATES Spring, one of the other lovebirds, so maybe it's just a personal thing dependant on the bird. **shrugs**
  4. I think I'm biased but I am pretty sure parrots are the best "pets" to have ever. You never know what kind of weirdness they're going to say...
  5. Well you can actually just go to accessories and then to the paint program on your computer to resize photos. Just go to paint and then click on: resize-skew and you can fix the size of the photo. Thanks for the nice comments, I thought this would be a good forum, Im happy to see all the various photos of people and their greys with other pets! I have to agree that the parrot on the dogs tail wins hands down. SO CUTE! But this photo of Bella in her Christmas sweater and Zeus riding her is pretty cute too, hahaha....
  6. What kind of dog is that, it looks like a type of hunting dog my uncle used to have, a Munsterlander, I believe... or some sort of pointer...
  7. Zeus does this too, sometimes. But he usually does this when we're playing, or when he's roaming around on the couch or the floor - I never really knew what it meant...
  8. Just re-reading this forum. It's Zeus's second birthday now. Funny how far he's come in such a short time! I guess it helps that when he came to us he was not even a year old, so he really didn't have any bad behaviours to change. Hmm, update... Zeus adores his bathtime. We've taken the advice of people here and gotten the aloe juice. He loves his spray bottle and will make cute noises and say BATHY BATHY when he wants his bath. He also has a big ceramic dog water dish that he uses as his pool (it's shallow) and to dip his butt in when he's having his bathy. He used to be somewhat shy - he has really come into his own now. Except for the odd crabby day (and I can relate) he seems like a very well adjusted boy. He talks to us and sometimes our friends who come over. He adores our puppy, but he still hates the other birds. Not sure if that will ever change. I do think that all the birds together in their seperate cages is nice though, they all have each others company to chatter when we're gone. Anyway, this website is great! I've let other people I know with birds know about it. Keep it up!
  9. Just wondering if any of you have other pets, and if so, how they interact with your Grey? Or, how do they interact with other animals in general? I am really paranoid, and I guess, better safe than sorry. We have lovebirds, an Indian Ringneck, and a Green cheeked conure. We also have 2 shelter bunnies and a puppy who's a black Lab/Dalmation mix. Zeus (my grey) hates (with a passion) the other birds and will snap at them and try and bite them, so they don't come out EVER at the same time. He doesn't mind the bunnies, but the only other pet he likes is Bella, the dog. He really has taken to her, it's really cute. He will lift his foot up to step up and say very loudly "you wanna step up? YOU WANNA STEP UP???". But he does this to the dog and the dog looks baffled. He will also do his twirly heading off the side of his cage and do the wolf whistle at her, chatter at her, and say BELLA BELLA BELLA. They both seem to like each other. He even rides on her back now. Do your greys get along with other pets, and if so, which ones?? Please post pics, too!
  10. Sorry for the double post. My computer is misbehaving (as per usual)...
  11. It depends on Zeus's mood. If he's crabby, he won't talk at all if we're in the room unless he is impatient and wants something immediately. If he's in a good mood, which he usually is, he will talk. He's gotten more comfortable with it lately though since when he talks he gets the oohing and ahhing and GOOD BOY so obviously he's learned that being a ham = praise and sometimes treats. He didn't usually talk around our friends or people who come over, but he's gotten better about it and less shy as he's grown up. He really likes my fiance's best friend and my best friend, and will chatter around them now. He does his best talking when he is in the cage and the other birds are out. We have lovebirds, an IRN, and a Green Cheeked Conure who all get out time each day, and Zeus will snap and try to bite them so they have to be let out seperately. But he will talk clearly and often when he's in the cage and the others are out! He's now made friends with our puppy. The puppy used to be scared of him but has now decided that she loves him. They're always supervised of course but it's really cute. Zeus talks to her and has now taken to screaming "BELLA, BELLA!". I would say that Zeus is a ham. But he's gone from a closeted talker to more of a ham and he just turned 2 last week. I can only imagine how much of a talker he's going to become!

  13. That's really really cute. I love listening in on the chatterings. I also think it's funny when Zeus has to go in his cage so the other birds get out-time. He pulls out all the stops and knows just what cute things to say. And now he's taken to barking like the puppy and calling BELLA BELLA BELLA. The poor dog is 3 months old and doesn't get why this weird creature seems to be calling her name. I need to take a video of this...
  14. My fiancé and I both finished this book recently. Took all of a day or so to complete while on vacation. Really hard to put down. I enjoy Mark Bittner's comment/review also (the guy who wrote the Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill) re. the book. Echoes my sentiment regarding the emotional intelligence of animals, and their intelligence in general. It's refreshing to see Dr. Pepperberg's work being recognized. But, anyone who's ever had a bird knows that they have always been a lot smarter than the credit their given. CHEEP CHEEP, AHOY! Oh, and Zeus liked it also, and has tried to shred the cover!
  15. Also, Ana looks really gorgeous, really nice plumage! I like that toy - we have the same one but Zeus hates it.
  16. Omg that sounds really cute, please take a video! I wish I had the $$$ to set up a nanny cam in the bird room to record Zeus when we go out and when we're busy/in the other room. I hear him practicing all his favourite things. He sings and says the name of our IRN (Indian Ringneck), who is yellow. All you can hear is BUTTER BUTTER CUUUUUUUP! Over and over again. It's cute how they practice when they think you're not paying attention. I try and get him to say things on command but he rarely does. Oh, here's a photo of him riding on the puppy. The puppy is kind of scared of him.
  17. That's so cute! Zeus has really mastered a lot of his words now by his alone time chattering, I find. Also, he likes to amuse himself when he's alone (or thinks he is) with his window perch and this slinky thing...
  18. A very merry and GREY Christmas to everyone! Just thought I'd post a forum about the funniest/cutest/silliest thing your Grey does during their daytime chattering. I find Zeus has his chattering times around noon and mid afternoon as well. He seems to practice funny sayings/words/noises but also meshes and blends them together to form weird little renditions. What's your fave thing your Grey does during his/her alone-time chattering or daytime chattering?
  19. God that's cute. Maybe I should give Zeus more time to get used to his Feather Tether. As of now he sees it and launches himself. He loathes it with a deep seething. Then again, he hated and was terrified of a huge new nail trimming perch we got him at one point too, but now he loves it, so who knows.
  20. Glad someone brought this up, I've found reading the i.m window a little uncomfortable a few times when I wanted to ask people a genuine Grey question.
  21. Really good descriptions, too - it's funny visualizing my bird doing some of these things, haha!
  22. Zeus loves chicken. I think I'm gonna give him some for Christmas.
