Lumpy eye?

Yeah that might be the one. Unfortunately because he referred me to another Vet, he wouldn't pin point exactly what it could be, so i only have what he said.

Lumpy eye?

****UPDATE**** Right, i took him to an Avian Vet tonight, and the outlook is grim.. Basically I have been told that I am feeding my bird the wrong food (for the last 6 years?) Which has resulted in what the vet thinks is Sycosis (sp) Or a cis. The Vet is away tomorrow so has refered us to another Vet who will do an X-ray, bloods etc. He gave him a shot of antibiotics tonight. Kinda feel bad that the Vet has blamed me..

Lumpy eye?

Hopefully the towel method won't put him through stress so I will try that tonight when I get home from Work. Only issue i have is getting him while he is in his cage as he won't leave his cage at the moment. Thanks for your help.

Post edited by: stuaz, at: 2008/04/02 11:10

Lumpy eye?

How do i get him to the Vets if i can't catch him?
6. Hi all, A while back I made a post about my African Grey and with certain issues he has been having. http://www.greyforums.net/forums/african-grey/48473-behaviour-problems.html#49729 The problems I said about in that thread have all gone and up until last weekend he was he usual happy self. On that said weekend when I came downstairs to give him feed and water etc, I noticed his right was slightly raised, and when you looked on him straight on you could notice a direct lump in comparison to the other side. I figured he may have fallen off his perch in the night and perhaps banged his head (Fair enough). So i figured i would give it a day or two and go from there. However the lump got more pronounced and now his eye is shut completely and he won't open it. The other eye is unaffected. This of course has made me worry, and yes I know i should take him to the Vet but unfortnatly i have not been able to catch him, and the more i try the more stress and upset i am making him. He is now very subdued and spends all day with his head turned round nuzzled into his back (if that makes sense) I took some (bad) pictures of him to hopefully make it clearer, i will try and take some clearer pictures, however when i get close with the camera he thinks i am playing a game with him And starts dancing around, plus its hard to take a picture of the effected area mainly because he can't see out of he is using his other eye to watch me thus turning away from me! Just wondered on your thoughts please. (Couldnt work out how to attach multiple images so i added them to a .rar compressed file on the following URL http://www.wosixe.com/Jake.rar (dont be put by the URL its my own personal webserver))
7. Thanks Nychsa, The Vet did call himself a "avian vet", and its the first time i had seen him with Jake. Had a quick look at the link you attached, it seems useful however it seems geared at American/Australian Vets, though im sure there must be a similar site for Vets in the UK, i will have to have a look on Google.
8. Yeah, i need to find a new Vet for my dogs as well. (they see a different vet though ) I think i will keep an eye on him, because although i care alot for him, Vets aren't cheap especially for them to tell me he looks ok  He seems to be being more productive e.g moving around the cage, he just isnt talking which is the most oddest thing. I would to like to have more involvement, the problem is finding the time. Due to the nature of my job im ether on a Plane or just to tired tor do anything apart from relax
9. He said that he didnt need to do any blood work because he didnt sense the bird was ill. I think he thought i was making it up, but who should know him best, His owner or a vet who sees him for half an hour...
10. Sorry about the delay in posting back. Unfortunatly things have been hectic what with my parrot Jake and work. I took him to the vets last week, after really struggling to capture him while not making him distressed. When i arrived at the Vets they looked over him. Lifted his wings, made him waddle accross the table. All normal tests i presume. The vet concluded there is nothing Medically wrong with him, but it is possible that it is mentally wrong. So really, it was a wasted visit, because the Vet did nothing to help him. He has however perked up slightly, but still wont go onto my hand/arm as per usual, and still won't talk. I hoping the vet was right and it is nothing but him being a bit moody or under the weather.
11. Ok, thanks for your replies guys. Much appreciated. To answer Judygram - yes i have had him since he was a baby, and i did wonder about the sexual maturity as i had read that its about 6 years old that they reach it, but I think to be on the safe side i will have to contact a vet, unfortunately it will have to wait till tomorrow. I will keep you guys posted.

Post edited by: stuaz, at: 2007/12/02 15:38
12. Hi all, First time posting on this website, however i have been a African Grey owner for 6 years now. Unfortunatly my first post has to be a not so good one. After hunting around the web for ages, i have turnt to other African Grey owners for advice. My male (at least i think he is male) African Grey, for the past two weeks has changed drastically. He will no longer talk (before he would not shut up), he sleeps all day (deep sleep) and will no longer get onto my hand. He will just sit on his perch like he is attempting to hibernate, for lack of a better word. He seems very subdued, and almost as if he is in a state of shock. He won't leave his cage voluntarily. He is eating and drinking, and seems to have no physical issues, its just his mind which seems effected. Its as if he has forgotten everything - he will even let a member of my family stroke him, who before he would bite and wouldn't let them near him. Any suggestion on what could be the cause of his sudden change in mind and how i can get my old bird back
