Thanks for the advice. As for No.3, when Leo panics and flies (he can be a bit nervy) he tends to bash into anything. The other day he flew into a large mirror that is on the wall.

Hi Guys, This is the first time I have posted since Leo thankfully recovered from his illness. He's doing great now, but I have a few questions. 1. From time to time he will make a wimpering noise and look under his wings. I tend to think it may be loose feathers annoying him but I'm not certain, so can anyone tell me if Grey's tend to do this? 2. I can't get Leo to bathe. I know he wants to to because sometimes he tries to get into his drinking water bowl (which is far too small to bathe in) but when I put down a bigger bowl of water in his cage, or outside the cage when he's out he is not interested in going in it. So we just spray him at the moment. Any suggestions? 3. When he is out of cage he tend to claim to the top and tries to rip-off the wallpaper, so we move the cage out slightly so he can't get at it. The problem is that this puts the cage in the way of us moving around the small room and he if we accidently brush against it and move it slightly Leo panics and flies off. He has no sense of direction so I've scared he is going to hurt himself. What can we do to avoid this? (I'm not keen on clipping him) Thanks.

Hi Everyone. Leo is fine! He is back to his old self again, except that his voice is a little "squeaky". I'm amazed and relieved at how he has recovered so dramtically. Thanks again for everyone's concern.

Leo is about the same today. That's no bad thing because he made a massive improvement yesterday, so I wasn't expecting that again today. He still isn't talking but he is eating like a mad man, going back and forth between his seed, veg and fruit, not stopping. It's a bit disconcerting to see him stuff himself so much but I suppose it's better than him not eating. He is now looking sleepy after a (very long) feed and has fluffed himself up very slightly, so I assume he is still weaker than normal. Still, I'm beginning to hope that we have passed the danger point.

Just a bit of an update. Leo seems much better today. He is eating, climbing around his cage and has even played with a swing for a while. He's moving around a lot quicker than the previous two day, and isn't looking hardly fluffed up at all. He's not quite there yet though. He isn't talking, isn't very playful and although his droppings look the right colour they are still a bit runny, although that could be because all he wants to eat at the moment is seed and grapes. I just hope he keeps improving at this rate. Thanks again guys.

Thanks once again everyone. He's taken his meds in food today. I made sure he eat the lot. I hope that way is as potent as a straight dose would be? He still looks very ill, but he is eating just about normal and not bringing any back up. His droppings look pretty normal now as well. I don't know if those are good signs or a false dawn? Obviously he's not going to stay in his current condition for very much longer. He is either hopefully going to get better or well, I don't want to think about it. What signs should I look for in the next couple days? Also, can anyone comment on Baytril? Leo isn't any better today. I hate to sound pessimistic but I've heard that because they hide signs of sickness that when they do show signs that they are sick it is probably too late. Is that true? But I'm not giving up on him. Today will be his first full day on the antibiotic. Should I start seeing some improvement soon if the medicine is working?

The Vet has booked us back in for next Monday, but if his condition doesn't improve by the the end of this week I will get him back there. We did get a syringe with the antibioic but he turning away from it. Not sure if he's scared of it or just doesn't have the energy. We are having to put it into his food.

Thanks once again for your concern. An update on Leo: We saw the Avian Vet today. She has given him Baytril antibiotic (0.15m twice daily). He won't drink it directly, but I assume it's OK to inject it into something? (like a grape). The Vet has taken some droppings to analyse. He is still poorly but has eaten and drank a bit today and hasn't been sick. He still has terrible diarrhoea. I have this awful feeling that my dad (who has a touch of alzheimers) give Leo some chocolate over Xmas. But he either doesn't remember or won't admit to it. It's the only thing that I can think of that has caused Leo's illness. We are trying to flush whatever the problem is out of him with the antibiotic and water. We are not allowing him to have anything remotely fatty (such as sunflower seeds). We are keeping him warm and hoping for the best. Any other suggestions would be welcome. Thanks again everyone. He's stayed about the same last couple of hours. I've put his blanket over his cage so he can just rest. Unfortuately the Avian specialist isn't available in my area (Stockton, Teesside, UK) until tomorrow. Apart from keeping him warm, is there anything I can give him to keep him hydrated? I'm worried that he won't eat/drink for himself and may become too week.

Thanks for the concern. I've booked him with the Vet tomorrow morning. Early today, He was on his perch, eyes closed, swaying. I then made him some scrambled egg (his favourite treat), and he woke up and eat it all, really enjoying it. For a few minutes after that he seemed his old self and wanted to play. But then he brought the egg back up, fluffed himself up and had diarrhea (a dark green colour). So it looks like he has an upset stomach Despite this, he seems a little bit more lively now, but still keeps closing his eyes. I just hope he doesn't start to go backwards again before seeing the Vet tomorrow. Is there anything I can do in the mean time?<br><br>Post edited by: Dopple, at: 2009/01/11 17:34

Leo doesn't seem any better today. He's still fluffed up and it's as if he hasn't got the energy to do anything. He's not his normal self at all.

By the way, I should have posted that he keeps closing his eyes as if he is tired.
