1. I took sandi to get her feathers trimmed and now she is biting at them . to the point were so has no flight feathers . she is not plucking them out but biting them off and has now moved to biting her tail feathers off . I took her back to the vet and she has no clue why she is doing this i am worried there is something more serious going on . has anyone ever had their grey do this . i change her toys every couple of weeks . her diet is what it should be and she is with me constantly when i am home witch is often . the only thing that has changed in our house is i had a baby nine months ago but i made sure that it didnt change our daily routine . does anyone have any suggestions that might help . i have heard of one other bird doing this and the owners had to give the bird away before the behavior stopped i hope this is not the case .
2. what is the temprature range that my house needs to be kept at for sandy to be comfortable . i have tried to find this info online and cant .
3. we moved her cage to do some serious cleaning from all the flinging of random things and we realized were she had her cage she wasnt comfortable the problem has since gone away . her cage was in a kind of half corner and i think she might hav felt alittle cornered . but all is well now but am still following advice i want her trust and am sure some of it was me as well . thanks to all

6. thanks guys . no she is not running to the back of her cage . if she is sitting on her perch that i placed back there is the only time i have the problem with her . i will keep trying and let u know how it goes i know that a week is not long enough for trust but i was afraid i might be doing something wrong and didnt want to hinder gaining her trust . i will try wat u all have suggested . once again thanks
7. sometimes it is easier than others but most of the time she will hold onto the back of her cage . never struggling or pulling away . i have been told once u give a request to her dont back down follow through but if she doesnt want to come out should i leave her there . i really want to spend time with her but am lost on what to do .

books

i was wondering is there any books out there that would be helpful to read for training , what it means with the sounds they make , etc .
9. i was told that seed food for greys(parrots in general) was like feeding them candy . any opinions on that . i feed sandy exact parrot food bec it wasnt seed based since i was told seeds were treats . but i know other people who have had greys longer might have a different view . just curious and dont want to be feeding her the wrong thing or depriving her of something she needs .
10. sandy is 16 weeks old .as my husband likes to call it we hav a farm , but we dont live on one . we have 2 dogs ,1 rat ,1 rabbit , 1 hermit crab and now sandy . i owned a parrot about 10 years ago . yes she is alot of work but i love her dearly and i think our pitt bull is now scared of her since the day we got her she dive bombed him . i am slowly trying to get everyone used to each other . any suggestions would be great .

Post edited by: cowgrls101, at: 2007/11/23 23:52
