  1. glad to read I am not the only one with this problem. He was very calm and very interested in the water, I was pretty cold but he did enjoy it. Except for the part when I was standing in the bathroos with a wet shirt shiffering (sp?), it was okay. But not something I would want to do every day. In the sink I have one of those pull out fossits. Tried pulling it out for him to wash but he only drank. Wont go inside the sink- and I do have my doubts that he would go in the shower since it is so low. Well, I guees I will have a lot of work training him, until then I just have to suck it up and freeze. lol How often do they have to wash?
  2. well, I am not sure if here is the right place to post this one. I have the feeling Churchill nevver seen water, as in he doesnt wash up. I tried a small doll tub in the kitchenm I tried having him go in the sink, he doesnt even splash the water in his dish. I know how important it is for these birds to wash, so yesterday I tried again with grapes to get him to go into the sink. I gave up, took my cloth off, except for my t-shirt and went inside the shower. he stayed on my shoulder the whole time, I showed him the water, started making him wet. at the beginnen I left out the the face. When I saw that he didnt mind I wet his face too. When he was done I put him on top of the shower so I can clean with soap. Now I need suggestions, on how I can get him into the sink because I dont think going with him is a very good option, since I cant get any help from my husband. We tried for him to come get him after he was done but he wouldnt go to him. Every time he comes close Churchill "tells" him to go away. I can do abaut anything with the bird. Any suggestions?
  3. 2 birds period? or 2 large birgs (like macaws, greys, amazons or cokatoos)? That is pretty dumb if its for any kind of birds. Because there are birds who like to live in big flocks. Like finches or budgies. A few days ago I got me another budgie, to make my flock an even number (2 boys and 2 girls- just hope the guy ar the petsrore sexed her right. She is grey, with a little white and black and she has blue cheeks. Cutest thing. I still want one green one and one purple one, since I cant have my own baby. Next week they get a new shipment at that store and then I am done with those. ( as in buying) Surprisengly buying that little one I had to sign a paper with Churchill I didnt. Different store different policies I guess. I am still waiting for the paperwork to register Churhill. The smoking: I know its a bad habit, but that is the only thing that I do. it relaxes me. I wont even take my kids to people that smoke in their home. Nobody comes over to y place because they cant smoke. (except one room with the window open and cigarette stuck out) That room neither the kids nor the birds are allowed. But that doesnt bother me, I dont really get along with other ppl. They always want to force their way of thinking onto me. Luckily my husband is the same way. So we dont get in each others way. Well, I got to go housework is calling. Thinking abaut making that pumpkin pie for him together with my daughter
  4. Yesterday I started to train Churchill. He already learned this: he follows the "target hand", okay started that one a few days ago, he steps up and down- he did it yesterday so well. Now today I need to see if he still does it. Then when I say "head" he puts his head down for me to scratch him. Thats cute. Then he gives kisses on demand. When he wants to kiss he will come and just kiss me. That is very cute too. During the step up training he did a perfect wave, but I didnt know what to do then, because I wanted to wait with the wave until he gets the step up right for a few days in a role. I hope I am on the right track here. He'll do anything for grapes. After he knows the step up and the wave Ihave to watch my video again, for the vet training, I think a roll over is on there and to see what other information that woman has. I didnt want to watch all of it because it was too much information for me. But I am happy with his development. It was just very hard because he tried to get to the plate with the cut grapes.
  5. oh before anybody says anything abaut the smoking- I dont smoke araund the kids (in the house) or araund the birds!!! They dont need to be second hand smokers.
  6. Judy, officially I wouldnt need his concent, but the DOC wants his signiature (Sp?), so might as well call it his permission. Couldnt find a doc who would do it at my age and then not wanting that signature from him. Plus he has to be there when I talk to a psychiotrist. (i know the spelling is off) First I thought bring home the papers. he doesnt understand and he signs anything that I give him. I just tell him its because of the kids. The Pill I dont want or any other way of birthcontroll. I smoke, drink everyonce in a while (once every gosh cant even remember the last time) but when I drink I get wasted fast and that hormonal stuff doesnt work with the pill or any other hormonal birth control. Plus I would have to see the doc every 6 month whioch I do not believe in. Last time I saw a doc was at my babies birth (and that only b/c my husband was home) and before that when my 3 yr old was born. lol I have very strong beliefs when it comes to doctors. Now please dont get me wrong the kids go and get their checkups but when it comes to me I have the right to choose.
  7. well, the bird is being registered, but I believe it should be enough that I have a reciept and that the bird has that ring. At the very least the store I bought him from could have told me that I needed to do it and where to call. If I haven't found that info on the internet by mistake they would have come to take him away. I was NOT looking to breed the little ones for profit or even giving them away. I just figured: why buy if you can let nature take its corse ONCE. I would have loved to see, which colors I might have gotten and how they care for the babies. I do think that should be my right. Well here you not only have to register dogs. They are considered luxury ad we have to pay taxes on them. every year. I am actually very surprised that birds are taxfree. On top of that they tell you which dog you can own and which breed you can't have. thats the reason why I couldnt bring my two dogs from the US to Germany.Already paid for the flight etc and then thy told me when we confirmed being on that plane that we are very likely to have taken the dogs at german customs.
  8. I got Churchill unclipped and so far it stayed that way. I probably won't clip his feathers because I just love how he comes flying to me. He does it because he wants to. I don't have to go pick him up because I want to spend time with him. Quite the opposite, when I have to put him back its hard to get him to stay. For most part of the day he is out of his cage or at least has the chance to come out when he decides. I only ou him back when I have to air out our apartment or when I cook and until the burners are cold again. Plus one other good reason is, when he has enough of my daughter he can fly somewhere high where she can't reach him. My daughter did take a beautiful pic og Churchill flying. Not as nice as one as MrSpock has as his profile image but still a very nice pic. ( it can be viewed in my profile) Would miss seeing that if he was clipped.
  9. today I found out that here in Germany you have to register parrots with some authorities. Will get the paperwork in the mail in a few days. I got that information because I was reading up on breeding budgies ( I think- parakeet), because I wanted to have one set of eggs and hatchlings for myself. Since the new cage for them is so huge I figured why buy more if you can have babies. Well, I figured wrong- need a permit for which I have to pay who knows how much money and have to take tests on knowledge etc. Well, guess I buy one more female to make it an even number and call it even. I just wonder why the goverment here can't let ppl do what they want. An other example: i am done having kids but noone will "fix" me because I am too young and need a permission from my husband, like I am going to ask him. None of his business. Luckily for me Europe is so small. Hehe. Easteurope right araund the courner where they do anything if you have the money lol. Miss the freedom that you guys have over in the US.
  10. thank you for you help. But I figured out how to put pics in my profile, so I did that. Anyone who wants to see pics can just go there.
  11. okay now that I had more time to look at this forum I read something abaut it. I also got a nice video that shows me how to teach different things. Right now we are trying the target thing. What is strage he will fly on my arm when called, which is explained long after the step up. He does follow everywhere I go. Unless my daughter is araund lol
  12. lol I kind of have the feeling that the two think alike. She is almost 3, araund the age age a parrot is being compared with when compared to children. I read two opinions: one said greys are like 5 year olds and the other said that they are like 2 year olds. She opens cabinets and they both look whats in it and he will give her things that she can't reach. It is too funny to watch, which of course I do from a distance. Unfortunately, whenever I try to make a video when they are together, she will send me away and he tries to get the camera.
  13. well not sure if this is the right place to post this one. Do these birds know the difference between adults and children? My daughter loves this bird (she thinks he is hers lol) Yesterday, I was wondering why my daughter was so quiet, why Churchill was so quiet so I went to look. She was standing insede the cage, Churchill outside by the window aand she was feeding him some seeds. Alicia (my daughter) goes to get him a piece of fruit offers it to him and he comes running. (of course I am watching over the two of them) She wants to help clean the cage, prepare his food etc. He won't fly to her, he doesnt try to pek her he lets her pet him. My question now is. Can he distinguish between kids and adults because he interacts differently with her than with me or my husband.

    seeds

well, I think for this one my english knowledge isnt enough, i hope I can get across what I am talking abaut. Saturday I bought a special seed mix that I am supposed to make tiny plants out of before I feed it. I read this is very healthy for birds so I decided to buy some. On the package it said instructions inside. I thought easy enough- went home dumped the seeds into a ziploc bag but there was no instructions. So far I put them in a plate with papertowel and wet them. Does anybode here know how to do it right? Some have popped open and I want to wait until tomorrow to see if all are opend and have a little green before I give it to Churchill. I want to give that to him once or twice a week. Maybe somebody can english word for that. Thanx

    pumpkin?

I have a few pumpkins which I am hoping to make into pumpkin pie for my husband. (been putting it off for a few days- because its soo much work- we dont have canned pumpkin or pie crusts here lol) Well, now I am wondering can the bird eat that? If yes, raw, cooked, mashed? What abaut the seeds? If I hand him seeds he will eat them but not out of the bowl. Can he have fresh pumking seeds or do I have to prepare them somehow. This time I will give some pureed pumpkin to my daughter, that should also be FUN lol.
