  1. I am new to CAG's and parrots and I'm interested in trying clicker training with Zeke. I did a search of the forum and found some earlier posts about it but it seemed tha one person was just starting the training and no one else had any experiance with it. These posts were back from July. Has anyone had any experiance with clicker training and if so how did it go? Any suggestions of websites which are good for information on clicker training would be appreciated.
  2. Thanks much for the welcome notes. I look forward to learning and sharing on this forum.
  3. Hi, just a quick introduction. I found the forum last night while in search of information about causes for Zeke falling from his perch. From the responses to that post along with all the information available on the site it seems we will be frequent visitors. Adrienne (Ade) and I are both new to parrots but have read enough to know some of the GOOD and not so good points of sharing a home with a parrot. We are and will be in the learning process. As I said in the post about Zeke falling, he has had a rough 5 years but is warming up to us. He will step up but is a bit nervous about it and is very nervous about any touching, butting the hand away and threatening to bite. It will take some time to gain his trust and we are prepared for that. We are happy just having him in the house with us and love listening to his chatter and constantly hearing something new from him. The range of sounds he can make is incredible. Being able to handle him is a bonus. We recently moved to Randle Wa. and love it. We have a raccoon family, we see frequently outside the back fence, Elk and Deer are seen daily grazing in the fields. The mountains are all around us and are beginning to get snow while we are still in shirt sleeves. A beautiful place to be. Anxious to be a part of the forum here. Dave and Ade
  4. Hi, I am a keeper of a CAG and already love it. The birds name is Zeke and he has been with us only a month and a half. He came to us from an aviary where he was aggressive to the owner and pretty much left alone. Prior to that his home was a cage in a garage for 5 years. He was placed in the garage because he just didn't fit in with the owners hopes of what he would be. During his time in the garage he started plucking and now has downey feathers on his chest, tail feathers about 1/8 inches and one wing with no flight feathers and scuffs and rubs which are raw. He was eventually given to the owner of the aviary who could not come close to the cage wihout Zeke becoming aggressive. I visited the aviary a couple of times and Zeke didn't seem aggressive towards me so I brought him home. He went to the Vet for a check-up and all seemed well. He does not trust being held or handled much yet but is getting better. He mimics a lot of sounds and has a fairly good vocabulary. He eats a good mix of foods. There is one concern, he seems to fall from his perch sometimes. I have not seem it happen so don't know if he is moving around and slips or loses his balance or what. Could this be an indication of serious problems? It seems to happen maybe twice a week. Not while he sleeps I don't believe. Anyone heard of similar and or know what the problem might be? Thanks for your replies. Dave
