1. If it was just the 6 months training I would keep him. It is the two to three years of random work hours, and irregularity that I will have to expose him to me up and down all through out the night coming and going. I know that there are ways that I can work around it but I feel that I would be neglecting him, I have already started working random hours and having to leave him in his cage for 10 - 12 hours a day for the last 2 weeks and I have seen a definite decline in his mood I'm still letting him out for 2-3 hours each night, and conversing, eating, and training with him but he seems to be getting more territorial about his cage, and just being difficult handle in general he isn't scaring me off by far. I have kept him through allergies to his dander, and through his first moody molt. The feeling of neglecting him is what is driving me more than anything to rehome him.
2. I just found out that my work situation is going to be changing with in the next month and I will be on the road for training for the next six months, and then working random hours every day when I'm not on the road for training, and then six day work weeks with 10 hour days. Due to this and not wanting to neglect Tank. I have decided that it is best that I sell him it is a sad day for me indeed. In the three and a half months that I have owned him I have came to love him and admire him as part of my own family. If there is anybody in Idaho, Washington, Oregon or anybody on here at all that is looking for a Congo I have a loving well behaved 10 - 11 month old Congo with a cage a Perch (made by nevjoe), and all his toys for sale! This was a hard decision for me to make but I know it is what is best for both of us. Post edited by: ClayRP, at: 2008/01/14 06:13:unsure:

Post edited by: ClayRP, at: 2008/01/14 06:17
3. The cleaning is going well I hired a company through my insurance company to come in and clean everything I should be back in there with in a couple days. I will say that tank is not happy having to live in his travel cage. He misses his home already, but he doesn't seem stressed out and is actually acting fairly normal.
4. So yeah on a side note my apartment building caught on fire and I am displaced with tank. At the moment in a hotel room. My apartment is fine but there is heavy smoke damage, and I don't want to put tank back in the apartment until it is able to be cleaned. I'm so pissed at the idiot that caused the fire.
5. But then how would I scratch his head I could try my nose but he would more than likely try and bite that too.
6. I agree tank has been moody today so he sits on his perch preening himself. Watching me waiting for me to make a move to pick him up so he can eat my hand. :woohoo:
7. He has bit me before but not like this one I was like ahhhh screaming on the inside.
8. I think that I experienced the most painful bite possible today. I was playing with tank, he got tired of being held and just bit me right where the nail joins the skin on my right index finger:( . It took all I had not to pull away or yell at him but he chomped down good on it. I calmly picked him up put him back in his cage walked in the other room and let loose with a stream of very nice words about him  I do have to say short of being kicked in the crotch it is the most painful experience I have ever had.

Changing diet

I have been monitoring his weight and he has lost a little about 2 - 3% not a big cut back but he has stabilized now and is sitting about 460g right now. He did take some pellets last night with some juice over them. He wont eat them dry though if they are mixed in with a seed or his morning oatmeal he picks them out and flings them.

Changing diet

Tank was on the typical pet store all seed diet when I purchased him. I have slowly been weaning him off of this. He is now on a Oatmeal in the morning, Fresh veggies, peas, green beans, carrots, broccoli, and a couple other healthy foods for him, then at night he is getting a mix of veggies and seeds. I have been trying to move him to pellets and leave a cup full for him while I am away at work but he doesn't seem to be eating them at all. On average how long did it take your grey to take to eating the pellets? What technique did you use to get them to eat the pellets? Also I'm not sure if its the change in diet over the last week and a half, but I noticed yesterday that his droppings where kind of runny and then this morning they were fine now tonight they are very watery. He seems fine, his mood is the same as always perching the same, no loss of balance no extra vocalizing pr sleeping so I'm not sure if its just the change in diet or he may be getting sick. I plan on trying to get him in to his vet tomorrow but that is tough as he only works half days on Wednesdays. I'm hoping that it is just the change in his diet, as I have been trying/adding a new vegetable everyday seeing what he does and doesn't like.
11. I'm not to sure he was prenamed, and he already knows that tank is his name.
12. I picked up tank. this afternoon he is so cool I spent the last week out of town so he had to stay at the pet store an extra week. I thought he might not remember me when I went to pick him up but after spending everyday the week prior with him. I walked in he fluffed up and whistled at me and automatically stepped up when I asked him too. Which is a big improvement over the biting that I was experiencing the week before I left. He is home now with me and doesn't want to be on his play stand or in his cages if I have to put him up there when I walk by he clicks at me or whistles a cat calls at me. Have to go for now he just flew across the room and landed on my desk next to me. I think we have bonded very well.
13. Posted pictures in the photo album he looks a little overweight in a couple pictures.
14. After weeks of searching I have found the CAG that I will be purchasing. He is an 8 month old male named Tank. I don't pick him up till the 24th because I have to go out of town but I am going to spend as much time as I can with him over the next few days till I leave. Then pick him up the day after I get back. I'm going to be parrot proofing my apartment over the next few days. I'm so excited I can't wait to get him home and I'm sad that I couldn't bring him home tonight I would have liked to but I want the transition to be as peaceful as possible for him. The cage that is part of the purchase is HUGE well at least compared to the other cages I have seen over the last few days. The cage itself is about 4.5 feet high, 3 feet wide and 3 feet deep. With a stand on top and 2 or 3 perches inside and a rope swing/perch about 18 inches fromt he top. also 3 food dishes and 2 water dishes. with one of each on the top play stand. Tank is an absolutely gorgeous bird I will take my camera with me monday when I go to see him and take some pictures for everybody.
15. Well I talked to a place a minute ago. and they can do the 1500 even for the bird cage and all the toys in the cage and a weeks worth of food, and play stand.

Post edited by: ClayRP, at: 2007/10/13 23:52
