I do not sign much Heather. Got to know the basics but amazing we always seem to understand each other. My fiance signs well. He has no hangups being deaf at all. Intelligent, good looking and great personality. You right, it's more like another race than a disability to them.

My pleasure, just had to share it, it's so cute. Can just imagine my 2 girls having the same thoughts.

NAUGHTY GIRL Some folks may think that I am cute, But really, I am quite astute. I wait until the night is quiet Before I squawk and start to riot. I spread my wings and fly quite high Pretend the ceiling is my sky I swoop and skim, a wonderous scene.. Oops there goes another figurine. I watch with awe and humour too As things get stuck with superglue Can I help? I ask myself, as statue Is replaced on shelf. Nooo! yells mum but not in rage As she swiftly puts me back in cage. She say's I'm naughty as I tip my water, I want to be good, I know I oughtta I know I'm clumsy, that is true No bad intentions, I assure you So in my cage I start to play Tomorrow is another day! Next morning comes, once more I fly To that ceiling way up high. Now if I fly closer to the wall, Those parrot plates, now would they fall? No chance there to persevere Instead, land on the chandelier. I see moms face, it wears a frown As upon it I swing upside down. To and fro, oh this is smashing! Till down it comes adroitly crashing Once more I hang my head in shame As mom brings to an end, my game. So from my cage, I'll plan a way To enter mom's glass wall display. There are such pretty figurines No better have I ever seen. One day, I whisper to myself I'll leave nothing on the shelf. For who needs a gym top, perch or stand? When on that cabinet I'll land. But now it's time for me to feed Upon my banquet….yummy seed. I eat my fruit as mom gets weepy And as for me? I just get sleepy. Mum says I am a naughty girl, Then in another breath, a pearl! I nod off and in dreams play And leave things for another day.

I am an Adminstration Manager at a Casino, in charge of the Slots and Tables daily figure reports, handles and growth. HeatherStrella I find your work very interesting as my Fiance of 7 years has a deaf Son. Jacques was born completely deaf. We tried various options and implants to no avail. He is now 18 years old and an absolute honey, intellegent and finished school last year. He is attending a Colleague for the deaf studying as a Chef.

Terri I am happy to hear you are finally home. Enjoying your new home? I love mine. So much space. Also glad to hear both Bella and Jiggy have settled down. Both mine are loving their new "spots" in the living room. They have full view of us most of the time. Angie is not chewing her feathers at all but strangely started biting, agressively so. When I let her out of her cage she climbs to the top and if I so much as try to take her off she bits to hurt! Last night she was on the floor, I had no problem picking her up and putting her on her favourite chair in the living room. She sat there happily cleaning her feathers and chatting. When time came for them to go to bed, she would not let me near her to remove her. I did the usual step up routine, even tried holding a bowl of butternut in front of her to distract her from my finger, to no avail. I finally switched off all the lights and she then got onto my finger. Any suggestions, ideas or reasons for this. She was always more nippy than Josie, but never this bad. And to come to think of it, it started in the old house even before the packing and move took place. Just got worse now.

No meetings at work today, finished salaries and was bored!! Went onto the Internet and found this site. Amazing how many different Parrots there are. I knew we had many, but gosh, this was an eye opener. Even show the ones that became extinct. Take a look, I found it interesting. http://www.camacdonald.com/birding/Sampler3-Parrots.html

Post edited by: danmcq, at: 2008/04/26 16:40

Never a dull moment with the 2 of them. I think I come to work to rest. This weekend is big cage clean weekend. Disinfect, scrub, etc. Gosh these little creatures do keep us busy.

Tracy what magnificent photos. I scrolled down and up and down again. Cannot get enough of them. My absolute favourite is "Ready for Fledging".

We take both Josie and Angie to our Avian Vet to be clipped. He does an amazing job. Never over clips. She can glide down to the ground but cannot take off long distances. I prefer this as it gives them the freedom of playing outside, obviously always with us around. After their outdoor activities, they are so cute ... climbs back into their cages and little eyes shuts down. Must share something with you. When I get home after work either Andre or myself will sweep up under their cages and say "Sis Man, Look at the Mess". A week or so ago on bringing out the broom, Josie looked up and as I approached her cage to sweep said, "Sis Man, Look at the Mess". I could have eaten her up, this is now a daily routine. They are soooooooo clever.

I have not given it to my Angie. It is apparently a well known fact that certain breeders give it to their greys for improved feathers and breeding. No leaves only the pips in their food. Obviously they do not sit and smoke the stuff! Just curious if anyone else knows about it.
-
Oh Makena what have you been doing. So sorry girl. Angie is still chewing her feathers. Not as bad as before though. The move has not affected her as bad as I anticipated. I am not sure about giving them any form of human drugs. I myself would rather try and investigate other avenues. I have also been told that Prozac could help with plucking/chewing. Will not try that either. I have however been told by a local breeder in South Africa that giving Angie 1 to 2 Marijuana pips per day would greatly help her feather situation. Have not started doing this as I do not have enough evidence that it will indeed work and not be bad for her. Any ideas, has anyone else tried this / heard about it??

I'm too sexy for my binky!

Thank you Judy. Will certainly keep you informed.

Hi All! Back at work today. The move is over, thank goodness. I am so glad to hear that Bella is ok Terri, it's great news. Have you finished all the unpacking?? I am still at it. Well Josie as I expected did great. She has settled in beautifully. Angie did better than expected, has chewed some feathers but not as bad as I was fearing. I have a great place for them in the living room, they can see us from all angles and both seem to enjoy their new spots. They are eating us out of house and hold, good sign hey.... Angie is getting out of her cage on her own, and yesterday even climbed down and started exploring the living room. Looks a bit scruffy but she is getting loads of attention and I hung a few new toys in her cage which she seems to be enjoying. Just hope that she is ok today as I have been at home with them for a week after the move. Thank you to everyone for the concerns and encouragement.
-
Thank you all. I did buy her 2 new toys over the weekend. The one she is really enjoying. Today my last day at work and then the rest of the packing. Angie was out all night last night but boy does she eye the boxes around her. My child is sulking.
-
Thanks Imme. She is a born model. I think she would look good on the front page.... I suppose all us Mommies think I babies are the best hey???

Will try the dance music tonight, I will even try the Jiggy Dance. At least they never think of us as making fools of ourselves. Well going home now. Will practice the Jiggy walking up the passage. Gosh I hope nobody is looking.

Thanks Danmcq. Don't mention me being upset, not sure who is stressing more about the feather chewing, Angie or myself  Try very hard to not show it around her remain happy, singing away her favourite songs to her. Only taking just over a week off from work as from Thursday, will be back soon and will let you all know how things are going. Thank you all for your kind words and support.

Thank you Judy. Yeah, I certainly have 2 very different children, Prozac Sally and Happy Feet. Love them both just the same.
