1. Hi, We have had our parrot for 3 weeks now (he is 15 weeks old) and he has very quickly grown very attached to my dad. I am 16 and I live with my 2 older sisters and my mum and dad. We thought when we got our parrot that he would not like my dad because he is the only male in the house but he absolutely loves him. When dad gets in from work he starts to do a special whistle that he only does when he hears him and he goes all submisive, crouching down and tilting his head back. He never bites dad, but he does with the rest of us. We really don't know what to do - should dad ignore him for a while until he gets to love us as well or can anyone give us any other advice as we really want him to love us all. Thanks for your help
2. I Was Watching TV B4 And Kenny Wanted Attention... He Definitely Said Hello:ohmy: ...Not Bad 4 12Weeks Eh:cheer: I Heard Its Bad 2 Whistle 2 Them Because They Dont Learn 2 Speak As Its Easier 2 Whistle..Is This True? ~*~Sofabed~*~

6. sorry me again, prob quite a stupid question but is it possible for my little man even though he is only 12 weeks to try to speak, we say things to him and a few seconds later he sounds like he is trying to say it. when we wer watching coronation street somebody knocked on the door and a second later her made a knocking sound exactly the same. we are sure he has tried to say hello. please take the mick if that is the stupidest question eva lol
7. Thanks Everyone...I Can't Believe How Quickly He Is Learning, We've Had Him 4 2days An Already He Is Learning To Step Up On 2 My Hand An He Knows That The Biting Is Unacceptable. As Me An My Family R All Being Persistant With Him It Wont Be Long B4 He Stops. Also Does Anyone Know How 2 Stop Him From Flying In2 Things? He Just Takes Off An Flys In2 A Wall Or Something. He Is Gettin Better As He's Not Hit Anythin L8ly He's Just Landing On The Curtain Rail. Thanks ~*~Sofabed~*~
8. Hey Everyone! :cheer: I Got My Grey On Friday... We Named Him Kenny After Kenny Dalgleash (The Liverpool Player) He's 12weeks Old 2Day And He's Settling In Fine, Although He Did Keep Flying Into Things  I Just Posted A Topic About Biting An Would Appreciate Your Comments On This. 9. Hello Everyone! I Got My Grey (Kenny) On Friday And He's Only 12 Weeks Old So It Hasnt Come As Shock To Me That He Bites. At The Moment He Is Exploring With His Beak And I Allow Him To Do This As It Doesnt Hurt But As Soon As He Puts Pressure On My Skin Or He Turns To Bite Quickly I Tell Him No And Tap Him On His Beak. Although It Doesnt Hurt At The Moment As He's Only A Baby I Know It Will Do When He Gets Older So I Want To Stop It A.S.A.P. Am I Doing The Right Thing Or Is There A Better Method? Thanks ~*~Sophabed~*~

14. I Never Thought About It Like That...If I Buy One Now And Introduce It As Soon As Possible Then He/She Will Be Used To It But I Just Wont Risk Taking It Out Yet Until I'm Certain I'm Putting It On Correctly. ~*~Sofabed~*~
15. Thankyou Every1 For All Ur Help. My Name Is Soph An Im from Cheshire. I Have Got Loads Of Animals - 2 Tortoises (alice & Hugo), A Dog (Lucy), A Rabbit (henry), A Snake (lacey), 2 Rats (Laurel & Hardy), 4 Horses (Angel, Monique, Molly & Dolly), 2 Cats (Mogs & Tabs) And Soon I'll Have A Grey :cheer: As You Can Tel Me An My Family R Animal Lovers So It May Not Always Be Me On This Account It Could Be Either Of My Sisters (Lou & Tor). 16. Well I Hadnt Really Thought About Taking Him Around To Their House But I Think That Would Be A Great Idea Because As You Said It Would Be Like A 'Second Home'. Thanks Again
17. Thanks, I Think I Will Leave It For A While Before I Buy One As The Grey Im Getting Will Still Be A Baby And I Want To Bond With It First. But I Will Definitely Buy One Later On As It Will Be Alot Better For It If It Has The Opportunity To Fly In Open Space. :cheer:
18. I bought harnesses for my guinea pigs and they escaped from it and it took hours to get them from under my decking and so this had made me a bit weiry of buying one for my grey as if it did escape they could fly away. Is there a chance that they could escape from theirs? I really dont want to get his/her wings clipped and i do think that the harness sounds like a great idea but i'm just scared of him/her flying away. What's the best thing to do?
19. Thanks Everyone. We Are Going To Look At Them Next Week And We Have Had Dealings With The Breeder B4 An He Is Really Nice So I Think That It Would Be A Good Idea If He Could Keep Him/Her A Bit Longer. As U R All More Experienced With The Birds Than I Am I Have Heard That Even If U Have Bonded With Ur Bird An You Go Away For A Week Or 2 Or Even If They Move Rooms In The House They Pluck Out Their Feathers...Is Is True?
20. I'm getting an African Grey in 2 weeks however i'm going abroad for 2 weeks in October. I have many members of the family who would be willing to look after him but won't this cause stress? Has anybody left there parrot for this long and if so where there any affects? thanks

Post edited by: Sofabed, at: 2007/08/24 17:21
