  1. How funny a boiled egg can unite us across the world  have a great family reunion judygram
  2. I would definitely take advice from your vet. I have no personal experience of feeding a very young grey, but i have three greys, 2 are 8 months old & one of those would eat all day if i let him !The other 2 seem to eat the amount they need. Like us humans, they will all have different eating habits. Good luck for your vet visit.
  3. I have searched the site & was unable to see anything relating to the quarantine of birds, so i thought i would post a little information for those members who are considering adding to their flock. Quarantine means isolating / housing your new bird away from any existing bird in your home.Six weeks is the average acceptable time scale. Why quarantine ? Although a bird may look perfectly healthy he may well be carrying a disease/ virus. Many avian diseases can be spread through the air.The disease may lie dormant & only appear when the bird is put in a stressful situation, this maybe a new home. A vet check / well bird check is recommended. Although the above may seem a lot of unnecessary hassle for some i speak from experience. I purchased a budgie/parakeet & added him to my aviary & did not quarantine him, the result, he was carrying a disease which spread to all my aviary birds. An expensive lesson to be learnt. So can you imagine how you would feel if that was to happen with your larger birds ? I dont wish to alarm anyone & the majority of birds purchased are healthy,Quarantine is a precaution i think you should consider when adding a new feathered friend.

  5. I have corrugated plastic on the roof of my aviary & a coupel of panels along the sides.I have not had any adverse effects & my birds are all fine. I think it would be fine to use as a poo guard, but as judygram quite rightly has pointed out with any kind of plastic be sure your birds do not ingest any.
  6. frankieNYC i do agree with you, i think one of the reasons we tend to meet members with younger greys is that we have access to forums like this.People buy a young grey & search the Internet to find out information. Most i believe will join forums to share that joy. I know there is many older greys out in the world, but their owners probably didnt have access to what we have. It would be fascinating to know the ages of some of those greys The oldest grey i know is owned by my friend & he is 28 years old. The oldest bird i have come across was a Macaw called Noddy, he needed rehoming as his owner had sadly passed away, noddy is 47 years old.
  7. Meeks looks wonderful, I'm so pleased that your friendship got off to a great start. Good luck with the trip to the vets. just out of interest what colour our Meeka's tail feathers ? red like the CAG or maroon like the TAG ?
  8. Toni, Alcazar what a wonderful name.
  9. Hi & welcome, Toni & Makena have very rightly recommended Harrisons, but you haven't said if your grey has a pelleted or a seed diet ? Searching local vets is a great idea Makena as many stock specialist foods Another helpful website http://www.robharvey.com/ Here in the UK but im sure Rob will ship to Germany.

  14. It says it will take less than 3 seconds Tari  let us know next time you shell an egg ?
  15. Falconry dates back thousands of years,The first artistic views of falconry date to carvings from around 1500 BC & show a large bird on the fist of a human figure. Tari falconry has been practiced around the world for years, it will always be a controversial sport that people will agree/disagree on. My friend owns a Harris hawk that catches hares & rabbit's . Like it or hate it, it is an awesome experience watching a bird of prey,& hunting is what they would be doing in the wild.

  18. Tari i found this & thought of you How to Peel an Egg Quickly Removing the shell from a hard boiled egg can be painstaking work, but with this simple process it will take you less than three seconds every time. Steps [edit]Prepare a hard boiled egg and let it cool. Soaking in ice water is a good way to speed up this process. Crack the shell at each end by firmly tapping the egg onto a hard surface such as a counter. Do one end, and then the other. There is an air bubble in the wide end of the egg; you want to crush this. Place the side of the egg on a counter and roll forward for one revolution with your palm firmly down on the top of the egg. Submerge the egg in a bowl of warm water and slip the entire shell off in less than a second.
  19. Are you sure there isn't a cure Judy ? i have to return to work part time soon after a long vacation & i know I'm going to have withdrawal symptoms from you guys !!
  20. Dayo sounds cheeky like mine Dan going to the middle of the back & they know they are out of reach ! As long as birds step up off the shoulder when asked i don't see a problem, they love to ride around & watch the world go by My only problem is i have 3 & they all want to ride & i only have two shoulders, so one usually ends up on my head
  21. Hi Bigbull this is a great forum with very knowledgeable & friendly people.
