4. Do you kiss your bird ? or just a little peck ? I thought it would be useful to know the facts on kissing our birds. As affectionate as it may seem, it is inadvisable to kiss your Grey. It is highly unlikely that our bird will pass anything onto us but there is always the possibility that we may pass something on to them through saliva, germs on the lips, sneezing etc.. Something small to us such as a cold virus can be potentially dangerous to our birds, so why take the risk ? There is always the danger no matter how well you know / trust your parrot it may & can bite your face. Anyone who says that it can't happen with their bird just doesn't know the full scope of what a parrot can do when it wants to.If a parrot were to bite, the owner would mistake it for aggression which it isn't. There's plenty of other ways to show affection to a parrot,A head tickle/scratch, a gentle caress of the beak with your forefinger & thumb, what ever your grey is comfortable with

 9. dblhelix what a picture that conjures up you chasing a little budgie around your yard/garden  From the sounds of it i would think it was probably a pet bird that has escaped.A great idea to ask around the neighborhood to see if anyone is missing her. check the budgies feet & cere ( the little bit above the beak )if they are scaly or crusty looking then this would tell you it has mites. you can also check for red mites, they are visible to the eye as tiny red specks, they usually live in the birds cage & go on the bird at night to suck blood, you can cover the box with a white sheet or similar at night & check in the morning for red or dark specks. If you end up keeping the budgie i would quarantine it, better to be safe than sorry keep us up to date

Post edited by: lovemyGreys, at: 2007/08/26 10:14

 13. As judy has said there is no guarantee that introducing a second bird that they will get along. You have had your bird for 14 years,is she the only bird in the house ? if she is then i think you may have problems,at 14 she will be very stuck in her ways, she will be used to routine etc..She may never accept another bird, but given time she may tolerate another bird.Be prepared you wil have to introduce them slowly, cage them separately, divide your time equally, this in its self may cause jealously with your existing bird. There are so many factors to consider, but saying all that they may get along,no one can say 100% what will happen.Good luck in whatever you decide, just be ready for the ups & downs.

 23. I have found a link on Avi -cakes for you guys to check out,I hadn't heard of then until today, They are made from 50% seed & 50% pellet held together by a molasses ! Molasses or treacle is a thick syrup by-product from the processing of the sugarcane or sugar beet into sugar. I would not recommend feeding as a whole meal as the site suggests but this is my personal opinion,i would use sparingly more as a treat.See what you guys think. http://www.lafeber.com/Products/avicakes.aspx
