Just an update. Matilda has just plucked out her chewed feather without any dramas. So happy she has done this, now thereβs only 1 to go. Hereβs a pic of what she pulled out. π¦π

I recently had my African Grey at the Vets cause she chewed off 2 wing feathers. She was sedated and had to have the shafts removed as she seemed to be in pain. I came home with pain relief and all was good. Recently weβve had an excavator digging behind our house for a new one to be built. My girl Matilda has been really stressed so weβve been spending more time with her at the front of our house away from the scary noises. Yesterday she chewed off another 2 large wing feathers but this time the remaining feather Shafts arenβt bothering her. Just want to know if sheβs as happy as she normally is and not in any pain will the Shafts fall out or moult out by themselves ?Cheers, Steve π¦π

Hi Timbersmom, I just got back on the site after my password had been refused. I created another one so all good. The concrete nail trimming perch is at the top of the cage. Iβm hoping she starts moving around on it more like she used to. Vets want $300 for a nail trim. π€£

Hi all, can anyone advise me what perches are best or what I should use to keep my Greys nails trimmed. My girl Matilda was using a multi shaped concrete perch which is soft on top for the pads of her feet and rough on the bottom for filing down her needle sharp nails. She is now not using that perch so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. cheers, Steve π¦π

I went into the Vets with Matilda and just like you said I discussed the issues with the Vet. The Vet then took her away to treat her and when she came back she was all over me and very clingy. Sheβs doing really well now. Iβm so happy I could help her. π¦ππ

Thanx for your good wishes Jenn, Iβm hopeful my Hirl will never have anything like this happen again. Sheβs super happy today but still a bit tender. All the best. π¦π

Thanx for the good wishes, it was a very stressful time at the Vets but just having my Girl here right now and do happy makes it all worthwhile. These birds are truly beautiful creatures. ππ

Forget to mention, Matilda is home with pain medication for 7 days. All is well. π¦π

I explained everything that was going on with Matilda to the Vet. The Vet believed it probably started with a damaged feather she tried to remove but unsuccessful. She then decided to try and remove the same one on the other side which had nothing wrong with it was just Matilda wanting her wings to be the same both sides. The Vet said that me having over 2 weeks with her then going back to work would have really stressed her and thrown her out of a routine she became very comfortable with. Apart from that the Vet did a poop sample and all clear. The Vet also said sheβs in perfect condition and I should be proud to own such a beautiful Parrot. I told the Vet I feel honoured and blessed to have her, sheβs my girl. ππ¦π

Matilda had to have surgery to remove both of her remaking feather shafts which were full of blood and a lot of swelling around the base of each one. The vets is gunna give me pain relief for her for the next few days. So glad the Vet can help her. Hate seen her suffer. Iβm sure she will be back to normal soon. π¦ππ
