  1. I want to thank you all for being so helpful and listening to my problems with my birdy. I actually got my parrot from someone in the parott society magazine. Never think your buying a healthy bird just because there advertized in a parott society. :-(
  2. Hi Unfortunalty after 4 long months i got her an endiscopic which diagnosed her with macaw disaase. The vet set there was no cure and she had had this for a long time. I think my baby had this from were we got her from as she was never right from when we got her. We put her to sleep to birdy heaven today. :-( I did a lot of crying weeks ago so it helped me cope more today. It was so sad as she was slowly going mad. I have an amazon now who i dont know will ever get it. Just a question what would you do if you bought of a breeder who sold you a bird with this disease.? :-9
  3. Hi the vet i was with was an avian vet. The one he has transferred me to is the one that did all the blood tests. We went to see her this week and still not really much help. We are going to have to give her an endoscopy now £300 and this still could come back with nothing. Because there are so many tests we could go on forever. I suppose when you buy a bird you do not realize what it intales when they are ill. Parrots are very hard to diagnose and she thinks it may have parrot waste disease. We did thing positive all along that we have kept her going. It has got to the stage in 6 weeks were she is no better and her weight is going down even more. we are having to force feed her to keep alive. In the long run i have now accepted that my fluffy is going to die. I cannot bare to see her in any more pain. her eyes are now sunken and blue where they should be white. After £1000 in vet fees still no help. All vets we have seen are top vets and i have had advice from 3 different top avain vets now. they all cant be wrong Does anyone know if parrot waste is there from when they were born
  4. Hi everyone. latest my vet is transferring me to to someone else now another vet as he is lost on what to do as he cannot find anything. What i am doing is i am trying to upload a movie i done tonight to see if anyone knows about the swallowing issue. i told my vet about this but he find nothing but i still think its weird and this is def wrong. she cannot eat roughage. The video is a little bit funny but not meant to be you will see what i mean. I only give a crisp to show an example of her swalling and never ever give her crisps as a rule. Let me know any of your thoughts
  5. Hi everyone also i wandered about her weight as it had gone down and the vet was worried. i manage to get her too 380 by night. then keep her to 350 - 360. fluff is a small bird anyway.
  6. only the fact that nothing is happening when i give her madication he rules it out. its like a guessing game. he was talking postmortams the 1st time we took her there, she is still alive and now gaining wait but with force feedbing. she just does not get involved with anything, no singing no playing just food and bleeting. its very very hard as i really dont know what to do next
  7. Hi there everyone. her tests come back negative for phyticosis. she was on the medication for 2 weeks and was really ill on it. he took it off. we have had blood tests, xrays, stool tests and there all coming back negaitve. xray confirmed enlarged liver. blood tests confirmed low white cells but these are only tests he sends away for so my vet is only diagnosing by results. my vet is http://www.village-vets.com/about.htm i was sent there by the rspca. but i have now checked with parrot scoiet and they have never heard of him. he is only one of 4 in the uk that work wiht birds. am not that impressed at the moment
  8. Hi have no idea of what do do anymore. My baby is still sick and i HAVE been to the vets and they do not know what is wrong with her. This is so frustrating. The next move i do not want to do. I cannot do and refruse to do. I have had every single test xray blood test and yet nothig has been diagnosed. Were do i go from here. I am weening her to keep her alive. i feel she is just going through the motions. i dont know right from wrong with my baby. I feel its only force feeding her thats keeping her alive. My last resort next. biobsy which is only a 50 50 chance she will even survive and still not be able to mend her. I am managing to keep her weight gained were it was losing by feeding her Harrison food. She has had every type of medication which has done nothing. how can this be that a specialist cannot find whats wrong with her. I dont get it!
  9. Update can anyone help me here. I have now run my bill upto £500 and guess what my vet still does not know what is wrong with my bird. She has xray done, liver enlarged. he said at 1st lead poison, came back negative, then calcium, then the big horrible one i mentioned which he put me on anti biotics and guess what its not that so treating her for something she has not got. she is no different. we give her food weening which she is eating. she is dropping weight. i mean 4 vets that only handle birds and all i have had is guessing games and still yet no diagnosis on this bird. I am very frustrated i have bill for £500 for guessing games and still don't know whats wrong. all i know is she has trouble swallowing hard things and can eat weening food. but only ever wants to eat what we have which is not good. i dont know what to do anymore. my baby is still ill at 1 year and 2 months and is losing weight and not her normal self.
  10. Update, yesterday i thought fluffy had taken a turn for the worst :-( She fell off her perch when she was asleep but lUCKILY i had placed her against a wall next to me. She also had stuff coming from her nose which is a sign of the disease and very weak. We have come to expect the worst as our vet told us she was very ill. Today well that has been another story. I cannot believe the difference from yesterday. Fluffy has ran around the house all day and even whistling. She has not shivered half as much. I have not been able to keep up with her she is so hypo. Its really strange as i think the medication might be doing some strange things to her. She walks backwards.LOL Really today is like she is 75% back to normal and she has been on medication for 3 days. The medication will go on for 45 days. This really is good news for us and we have been feeding her baby feed too and she has gone back into baby mode and bleeting. The hardest part of this is she is contastly begging for my amazon who we obviously cannot let her go near for 45 days. I put them in same room extra but she just begs and begs for him. Does anyone have any ideas what i Can do. By the way everyone Fluffy is not even bonded to us. She chose my bird who is bonded to me. Aghhhhh. Also does anyone have a bird that just wants to eat all day. Fluffy will try and eat anything she even goes to the dog bowl. Here is hoping for another good mad day :-)
  11. Hi Everyone, went back to vets today and he said he has seen an improvement in her. He does not know whether it is the calcium injection or the antibiotic. The problem with this. He is not 100% definite as it takes 10 days for the tests to come back and has to treat her for this with the symptoms she has and with the liver enlargement. He told me today he did not expect her to even last a few days from the way he saw her yesterday. She is also underweight too. He expected her to pick up within 2 hours after the calcium but she never she only picked up this morning which is why he is going to carry on treating her for this horrible disease. Fluffy really is like a little baby again. She has tweeted 20 times today and whistled 4 times which is a amazing improvement but no guarantees. its a 50/50 chance now and we are now getting tests done on our amazon.I think it is really strange that since she has been ill my amazon will not entertain her at all. They def since things. its been really hard trying to keep them separated as fluffy keeps trying to get to amazons cage. i have to do this for 45 days. I want to thank you all for being so concerned and helpful. If everyone could just say a little prayer to the parrot gods i would be grateful. My next appointment is not till next Thursday as we are carrying on with the course. I will update you all.
  12. Sorry have not been in touch. My baby has been xrayd now and its bad news. He has psittacosis which is a disased liver. He also has a calcium definciaty. At 1st they give him antibiotic's and calcium which has done nothing really, calcium picks him up and then he drops again. When i went to day they have had to treat him for this disease as he is to weak and the blood tests would take to long to come back as its the weekend. bad thing is that i know have to get my amazon tested. I have to find out were the disease came from to start with. I got my fluffy from the parrot scocity book. I am with one of the best vets in the uk. The thing is i find he just has no feelings with it. i cant even afford the vet bills anymore and cant find any help what soever. the pdsa does not deal with birds. I dont know what to do. He has also been near my amazon. God i dont know what to do now. I have to go back again tomorrow and i cant even afford it. Then i have been told it can be passed on to humans great
  13. Hi Every one back from the vets. The vet does not know exactly whats wrong with her only that there is def something wrong. He said her symptoms are def either calcium deficiency or led poison. The baby has not been near any led at all. He gave her some calcium today which is a lot stronger than the one we have. He has said if its this she will pick up straight away. Tonight we have saw alot of progress, she has started eating again and has tried chewing her leather toy. I am hoping that this is the problem. The problem i have he his saying to come back 8 n the morning for an ex ray if she has not picked up. She has picked up what should i do. I was going to leave it tomorrow and if she deteriorates to take her back asap. What are your thoughts. Also my bird is very very greedy but she wont eat the good stuff for her. she will eat all day long. this cannot be good for her. do you think i should take the bowl away as she will empty it and fill it just with proper vegetables and fruit.
  14. I am off to the vet tomorrow and will let you all know. She was trying to eat tonight but struggled. I defiantly think its too do with her crop. She has not brought anything up but she is defiantly head bobbing. I will let you all know the outcome. Thank you all for helping me with this. I am glad there is a place i can go for help. :-) x
  15. she is only around 1 year of age. i dont know what she weighs. i have always thougt she eats too much as she can eat all day constantly. she is also bonded to my amazon but my amazon is bonded to me. he does tolerate her but my grey obsesses with him and never leaves him alone. at the minute she is not interested in him either. if you go near her she growls and furs up. also her crop seems a little puffy if that makes any sence.
  16. Hi NO she has been eating the normal food. although 4 days ago she had 3 chips. would this make a difference. she is trying to eat now but then just drops it. What colour stools should i look for.
  17. Hi i am needing some advice on my grey. She has been very quiet for 2 days and has not eat today as normal, She is a very greedy bird so used to seeing her eat alot. She is doing something strange a bit like regurgitating. Am I panicking. She does not seem to want to do anything either. I dont know the difference between vomiting and regurgitating. Can anyone help me at all. How much is it to take to a parrot vet?
  18. hI EVERYONE i wrote on here a few months ago when i got my sweet baby. She is so sweet but i had problems bonding with her as my hubby has a grey that is bonded to him badly but my sweet baby wanted his grey. after trying for 4 months could not get her to bond at all. Progress so far non only she hates my hubbies grey now nd wants my amazon baby. Thing is my amazon is so badly bonded to me he does not like playing with her that much. My grey is so sweet, 5 months old now but still badly wanting to bond with another bird, any bird. I find she looks out the window also and seems to want to get out with other birds. I know this is normal but i cant help feel that she just wants a bird freind and i feel sooo bad for her as she keeps getting rejected by the other birds. I love her so much and in the 1st month the breeder ffered to take her back to swap but i could not as i was wey to bonded with her and loved her so deeply. She joins in now and plays with everyone but just follows my amazon every were. My hubbys bird used to pick on her but now she my sweet baby is picking on her. Any advice would be really greatful. We try not to leave her out and always get her involved as we have our birds out most of the time with us and caged only at bed time and when they get rsetless. does anyone know the best thing to do as i am at a loss. does she want to be with us . just dont know anymore and i cant give her a freind as i cant make the other birds accept her. My amazon does play with her but as soon as i am there thats it he stops playig and wants o be with me. I dont want to lose my bond with my amazon neither as he loves me and i love him too but love love my sweet grey. i did not know birds could have so many different personalitys. all 3 are so different its unreal. any advice would be helpful
  19. oh my god. That is so beautiful. arrrrr so cute. and yes i love it even more. my baby is called fluffy too. :-)
  20. Hi another question. i have had the other bird home 3 days and i am back to square one. She wont even sit in a room with me. she jumps of her perch and just trys to get at the other bird. I cant stop the other bird tweeting. i am in the uk and the homes are small so even when musich on the tweeting is louder than the music. My partners birds just tweets contstantly if shes not out of the cage and interacting. I feel i am spending 24/7 trying to bond and cannot keep them seperated without locking myself into a room. even when i do she just gets off and sits by the door listening. Were do i go from here. then she just goes for him and follows my partner becasue she knows he has the bird
  21. Just to let you know i have uploaded my picks of greys into the photo gallery although fluffy is a bit in the distance. i will try get a photo with her red bits. LOL keep you all updated x
  22. Hi there i have brought back our other baby now. I think i have been letting my bird control me a bit as she always wants to get on top of head or higher and then she never intereacts. today i have kept her off my head and she staid on my shoulder. my hubby is sitting with his purring parrott cherry. If my bird fell asleep on my stomach one one foot up does this mean something good? I am going to upload cherry and fluffy together very shortly. Mine has really unusal markings like red under her breast and feet. speak soon and thanks for all advice x
  23. oh my godsh everyone i did not realise all these messages were here. i do sorry for not responding. I can tell my bird was fed with a spoon but def think she was just left with her clutch. She had so much food over her dried in it took me 2 days to get it off her. Its one week later and she is more interactive and loves to play but mostly on here own. I think i am just so paronoid becasue i lost my last baby at one and i boned with her so well and miss her dearly. I am self employed with own website so i do sit around alot. I have her play gmn in front of me and she just plays constantly. It does worry me that she runs away from me though to the other side and actually turns her back on me. I find that if i ignore her she then wants me. clever thing. we have visited our other bird every single day and my daughter is looking after her. she has been really happy but i am going to bring her home as its not fair although fluffy is interacting alot more without her there, i think thats only becasue shes not descrated. i am really glad i found this website and am really grateful for all the info supplied. Fluffys mum x
  24. Hi my baby is around 12 weeks old. We have had her for 3 weeks. She is beautiful, tame, playful. We have one problem. She is not bonding to humans. She will play on her own. I think the problem was my hubby has his own grey and she wants to bond to the other grey. We have kept them in seperate rooms permantly but this still is not working. We have now got a freind to take other african grey so she can try and bond with human but she just looks for reflections of herself. If i go near her she just cowers in a corner. even if i try and play. I really dont know what to do anymore. I know this is not the norm as i have had experience with 3 other greys. If i get her she will just run up my arm to the top of my head and stay there. Is this bonding. I will just add that the other african grey does not like her either. What else can i do as i am the one who has only fed her and touched her also. noone else has done this
  25. Can anyone help. I have 2 african greys. one has bonded to my husband but my othere one is only 12 weeks old but shes obsessed with my hubbies bird. I have tried everything to bond with her,. moving the cages, not in the same room. but as soon as my hubbies birds tweet thats it shes hooked again. Will my baby ever bond to me. my hubbies bird does not like the baby either and always goes for it. I am so upset as i really want my baby to bond to me. I do well with her when my hubbies not there as his bird does not tweet so much when hes not there. I feel i am working harder than having 2 children keeping them apart. Any advice would be really greatful. Is it just a matter of time
