Im crying now.that is so sad.At least she was loved
-
How did she get a lung infection. What causes it.My grey is 21 and i would hate for something like that to happen.I am so sorry about your Alex. Lisa

I wouldnt take it away if hes a baby.Let him eat. There are way to many bird out there that develop picky eating habbits. You dont want to trigger this.I mean if he is polishing off two bowls a day then i would cut it back but if not then leave it.As long as your not feeding a bunch of unhealthy things.Like too many seeds and nuts that are high in fat and your sticking to freash fruits and veggies and a good pellet food then you wont have anything to worry about. Yes his weight has always been the same.i cant remember off hand what it is.But he goes to the vet once a year and its always been within a few grams of the last time. His diet has always been either Zupreem or the kaytee rainbow exact depending on if im at petco or petsmart at the time.,,,lol....I always have a bag of mixed nuts on hand as treats.i find if i give him some nuts with every ,meal he only will eat the nuts.He wont touch veggies.never has but he gets fruit about 2-3 times a week.he has always been a good eater, but he realy likes this stuff. And every now and then i will buy one of those meals that you cook up for them and he realy seems to like that as well.but i try to keep things like that on a moderate level because i dont want him not eating his regular bird food.

Im not sure.Hes never ate like this before. And like i said he is 21yrs.So maybe i need to do some reaserch on hormonal changes in 20something birds.

Thats looks realy good.

Hi all.its been a long time since ive been on here.Ive have bought a new house and with the moving and all.Well you all know how that goes.but anyway.I changed Fransis food to those new Zupreem entrees The Wild and spicy one.And he is eating like a pig.I had him on the regular zupreem chunky food and he would eat a little and through the rest out.But now he is eating whole bowls full except the red kibbles...lol.i am having to cut his food back so he dosnt get fat on me.For those of you who dont remember me and Fransis he is 21 years old.And in the 20 years ive had him he has never eatin his food like he does this stuff.Has anyone else had any exp with the new zupreem diets. Yeah we kinda tought him.he started making that movment with his head sometimes so we started snapping and wistling to it when he did it so he started to figure out thats when he needed to dance. So i guess you could say both -
That was cute. When your were telling her to dance fransis started dancing .he can hear everything on the computer .

He loves to dance and usually can wistle the whole song but sometimes he gets destracted. http://youtube.com/watch?v=Ap6mwVxJhOQ

Thank you.Me and him have more of a partnership going then an owner pet relationship. He knows what he wants and he knows how to get it.Anyone else that lives with us cant ever explaine our realationship.I stay out of his way.I let him through his fits. Were as any other pet owner would try to correct the problem.I dont see it as a problem.i see it as its his personality and your not gonna change a 22 year old bird.they are who they are .you can alter a few things.i am able to change his mood swings by changeing his location in the house and stuff like that.but as far as him acting like a psyco path.thats not gonna change.I just wish i knew what part of his personalty stems from being wild cought and wich part stems from how he grew up.He is a very happy bird. All his rage is very fun for him.He loves it.He loves watching reaction. As do alot of birds but he lives for it.He loves to feed the dogs his bird food and he loves slashing them with water when they are eating it off the floor.

Maybe that is something to be said.Your grey bites you for no reason at all. What went on earlier in the day.Was there any time of the day that the anger level in your house got elevated.Maybe they just think thats what is supposed to happen everynow and then and act on it.Never thought about it that way.Fransis will bite at any givin chance but i know some "regular greys"that attack for no reason.

I have been told by a few that me and one other person one this forum have older birds. So i have decided to post my insite on what shapes uniqe personality. My bird is 22.I have had him since i was 8.We grew up together. When i first got him he was mean hated everyone.Would grawl at all who came near his cage except me.Over time i was able to get him out by towling him.i was a determined kid who wanted to be able to pet my bird.Well for the first 5 years we had him.My parents were at each other.Devorce was coming. So he grew up in a very angry house hold with alot of yealling and screaming going on.This affected him alot. With all the hostility in the house he had no choice but to act the same way.To everyone except me. Now.16 years later .He reacts to anger .It stimulates him.He loves it.Any time there is an argument he gets one a band wagon.yelling,screeming.Attacking his toys.Attacking his cage.If we are watching Tv and there is an angry tone to whats going on.Its almost like he goes into a trans of rage with his tantrum. This being said it is evedent that they are not just mimicers of sound and action they mimcers of emotion as well.So try to keep in mind with all the youngons on here. Thanks for listining Lisa

I am in the prosses of trying to put together a little colabo of video for you guys. Its kinda hard cause as im sure you know when you want to get something on tape your always alttle too late. Fransis has never really done anything on comand like you see with other greys. He is a very very independet bird and its becouse he wasnt hand fed.So we kinda have to give him his space or he makes our life very hard. But im gonna get some stuff for you to see.Just give me a few days.

Well anything you wanna know.I pretty much have the answer too.I have worked with breeders have have worked at vets. One of the vets i worked at i knew more than him.Every bird that came in i had to go in first and talk husbendry and then he would come in and talk medican. The reason for most deaths of parrots is carlessnes. These are animals are supposed to have a very long life and you just dont see them live that long becouse of one stupid mistake. We all know the right and wrong things to do.And if your a new grey owner you are very aware of these things. But over the years you start to let up on stuff.Dont ever take anything forgranted.Remember the things that you are cleaning your house with.Think about your bird when you are cooking in your kitchen.Do let you bird get ahold of things that they might get lodged.I had a conure that died becouse of one of those shreddy toy they sell. When i found him he was dead with it hanging out of him mouth. And very stuck.I had only been gone for a few hours.I use only acrilic or very hard plastic toys. Its not hard to care for a bird and make them happy. You just need to always keep your bird in mind like it was your own infant.there are so many things that can hurt them.Or stress them.

Hi Ive just descovered this forum.I have a 22 year old Grey named Fransis.I got him when i was 8.We knew nothing about birds when we got him.He is a wild cought and sold through the black market. After we bought him a few weeks later we see on the news that a quarintine place in Houston that houses all the inports got robbed of some 2000 birds and reptiles so we figured he was one of those. We were driving through Houston back in 87 and saw this truck on the side of the road thats said"Parrots $200" so we stopped and there were hundrends of birds .Macaws, amazons everything for $200.So i got him becouse he looked most like a pigon to me.And thats what i realy wanted...lol.We got home and descovered when we went to the pet store to get bird food that we had the smartest parrot there was.I love him to death. The older he gets the smarter he gets.He can carry on full sentences. And he will answer your questians for you.For examp. He will yell at the top of his lungs'LISA(my name)I will say what He will say"come here now"So i go.And he will stand over his water bowl and Say "UMM water"and ill look and he has pooped in his water. He is real weird about his water. And little thing in there and he will throw a fit till its fresh. We get blood work done every year on him.And when they stick the needle in him he says"Ouch" gets a big laugh at the vets.Any way here is my big boy
