I lurked for a few weeks. I wanted to see what kind of activity there was, compared it to a few other forums I was lurking on, and also I wasn't sure I was getting a Grey. I finally joined because I purchased Pryde, and there were a few threads that I wanted to respond to. Oh, and I found the people here really nice and helpful.

I am the middle of 4. How is that possible you ask? The younger 2 are twins :ohmy: Older brother is 2 years older and the twins, boy and girl, are 3 years younger.

I got the aviator in the mail yesterday. The stuffed animals have taken to it very well. They drop like rocks when they try to fly though Pryde should be coming home either tomorrow or, more likely, Wednesday. I'll let you know how it goes then :woohoo:

you're supposed to like the sound, that is the whole point. At the moment you do the right thing you get a click. EVERY click is reinforced with something you REALLY like so that you try to get more clicks by doing more right things. Now with people you can get more creative and say "if you can get 10 clicks today I will get out that little thing that has been hanging in the closet for the last 6 months and :woohoo: "

keeping with Jack Johnson: Upside Down Who's to say What's impossible Well they forgot This world keeps spinning And with each new day I can feel a change in everything And as the surface breaks reflections fade But in some ways they remain the same And as my mind begins to spread its wings There's no stopping curiosity I want to turn the whole thing upside down I'll find the things they say just can't be found I'll share this love I find with everyone We'll sing and dance to Mother Nature's songs I don't want this feeling to go away Who's to say I can't do everything Well I can try And as I roll along I begin to find Things aren't always just what they seem I want to turn the whole thing upside down I'll find the things they say just can't be found I'll share this love I find with everyone We'll sing and dance to Mother Nature's songs This world keeps spinning and there's no time to waste Well it all keeps spinning spinning round and round and Upside down Who's to say what's impossible and can't be found I don't want this feeling to go away Please don't go away Please don't go away Please don't go away Is this how it's supposed to be Is this how it's supposed to be http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uFjnit1wyus

I'm in sunny California as well. I live and work in the San Francisco Bay Area, although I haven't been to San Francisco in years, I think, maybe I drove through it more recently... I live about 25 miles from work and it can take me between 45 minutes and an hour to get there. While the weather is beautiful more often than not, the beach is only about an hour away, the snow covered mountains are only 4 hours way and I can get to Napa Valley in about 2 hours, I still long to be back in my homeland of Michgan. There the weather mostly sucks and there are no mountains, but there is a large freshwater "ocean" (ok not that big but breath-taking anyway), beautiful rolling land filled with trees and not over developed. I miss it

Even the greys vote for Jack Johnson:

This goes along with the yearly get together that was mentioned on the shopping thread. On another forum I belong to (no worries it is for Rottweilers not another bird forum - I would never cheat on you guys ), we have a yearly party called Rottstock. At this event, there are games, socializing, lots of partying, raffles and so on. The whole purpose of the event is to raise money for Rottweiler rescue. Each region chooses a rescue to support and holds their own event so people don't have to travel far, although some have been known to attend multiple events if they are not on the same day :woohoo: Anyway, I thought I would start a new thread on this to see what people thought about this kind of yearly event. {Characters-0002005C}

Hmmm, upbeat and fun, how about "Best Years of Our Lives" by Baha Men? Yep, the Jack Johnson song was originally by White Stripes.

Post edited by: Pryde, at: 2007/07/24 05:06

You should be able to find a clicker at any pet store, or you can get a great price online like here: http://www.amazon.com/s/103-3545967-6836624?ie=UTF8&tag=mozilla-20&index=blended&link%5Fcode=qs&field-keywords=clicker&sourceid=Mozilla-search I would definitely get a book though, this is a good one. http://cgi.ebay.com/Getting-Started-with-Clicker-Training-for-Birds-CQS25_W0QQitemZ230152746147QQihZ013QQcategoryZ378QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Also, Don't Shoot the Dog, bu Karen Pryor, I believe she goes into all animals, not just dogs in this book.

I saw my breeder on Wednesday and she says Pryde should be ready to come home in about 2 more weeks. I've bought a few perches and a couple of hanging toys and found some great foot toys in the cat section - lots of different colors, shapes and textures. The real reason for my post, however, is to ask how did you introduce existing pets to the bird? I'm afraid my dogs show just a little too much interest in wild flying birds. I'm really afraid of ever letting the bird out while the dogs are even in the room. I think it will be fine if Pryde doesn't fly, or come off the playstands as the dogs ignore geese that are 4 feet away and not running away, but is there really any guarentee she'll stay put?
-
yep, in the Bay Area, the EBV guys and my husband have been good friends for many years, he is there about every other Sunday. I go from time to time, but usually I have dog things to do.
-
ah yes, a lot of his animals came from us originally, he's a good looking little guy! {Feel-good-0002006B}

We have all Australian Geckos, mostly knob-tails: smooth and rough. I could be wrong, but I think the one you have might have come from our breeding. Where did you get him?
-
Let's see: African Grey at the breeders: Pryde Rottweiler: Cain Rottweiler: Logan Miniture Pinscher: Vic Boxer: Jack Beagle: Kaylee Cat: Ericka more australian geckos than I can shake a stick at, so they are not named (both smooth and rough) and, if we put them all together, our very own snake pit also not named. RIP cats Ike and Whiskey
-
Well, not quite all of them. We don't name the reptiles, and the other 3 dogs are Kaylee (beagle), Vic (min pin), Jack (boxer) and we have a cat named Ericka. There are plenty more x-men names for future pets though B)
-
Thank you for the welcome! I posted where her name came from on the name thread. Being an unusual spelling I am hoping to teach her how to spell it for people.
-
Pryde is named after Katherine "kitty" Pryde, AKA Shadowcat, of the x-men. This comes from a now 3 year old tradition of naming our rottweilers after x-men, starting with Logan, AKA Wolverine, who is now 3 years old then Cain after Cain Marko, AKA Juggernaut (Cain's registered name is Juggernaut Vom Fields Haus). It only seemed fitting to continue. Here are Pryde's abilities: Kitty Pryde possesses a "phasing" ability that allows her and those she is in contact with to pass through solid objects. This mutant power also disrupts any electrical fields she passes through, and lets her simulate levitation, literally letting her "walk on air." She possesses a genius level IQ, is an expert with computers, and has a significant proficiency in martial arts, such as Kung Fu, Karate, Judo, and many other kinds.

I'm finally breaking down and joining the forums. I expect to get my baby bird (who I named Pryde) at the end of July. We are waiting for her (she has been DNA sexed) to fledge, then the breeder will clip her wings and she will come home. I only have one photo of her and it is not digital, but believe me once she is home wiht me you will be flooded with photos.
