  1. Sorry, but Joshua your Master would not allow that to ever happen :-) I wish I could just quit working and Breed Parrots for a living.
  2. Your welcome Nooey :-) You are going to have a BLAST with your new Baby Grey. It is good to hear that you have found such a good Breeder that has obviously poured Tons of love into these Babies.
  3. Hi Nooey, It sounds like normal feel testing to me. Sometimes this is just to ensure what they are about to perch on is sturdy and sometimes it is just a feel test. Dayo, which is 14 Weeks old does the same thing. It sounds like this little guy picked you and has a great temperament :-) To let you handle and scratch him in the areas you described takes a ton of trust from a Grey or any other Parrot for that matter. I am so happy for you!! :-)
  4. Hi NevJoe, Celery has given good advise and insight. I noticed during the time visiting the Grey clutches from 4 weeks old, that they became more independent with each weekly visit. Which I would assume is normal and desired. At around 12 weeks old, some as you would approach with your hand, would raise up with neck fully extended and then swiftly strike at the hand. Thus letting you know they wanted to keep doing whatever it was they were doing. I would normally ignore it and just keep pushing forward with my hand until it was fully pressed against their beak, then they would calm down. By week 15, they were no longer so easily convinced of accepting my interruption of what they were doing. If I did not watch their eyes and body language and continued with forward movement of the hand, they would strike, letting me know to leave them alone. Which I did, by leaving my hand exactly where it was, then ever so slowly backing it off so as not to let them think it was a knee jerk reaction to their strike. How is Hemingway with you? You mention your live in Daughter. How is he with her? Guests that come and go randomly are no longer dealing with a pliable baby, but a maturing Grey with thoughts of it's own. They may also not be considered members of your Flock. Hope this gives you some thoughts and insight to this maturing of Hemingway.
  5. SFSailor, They do love to watch and hear other Greys! I sit my Grey (Dayo - 14 weeks old) on my shoulder and let him watch others in action on my PC screen with speakers fairly loud. He watches and listens intently, so I am careful that what I show him, is something I want him to learn. I showed him Kaja the crazy Grey video on youtube and I noticed when I put him back in his cage after a few minutes he was doing very fast duck and weave moves while batting around a long stringy leather toy :-)

    pellets

    Hi Hawaiisheila, Well, if you had been fed processed pellets, then had a true steak and lobster dinner, what would you think of the pellets? :-) Others will chime in that can advise you on getting your Grey back to eating pellets. I provide Seed, some pellets mixed in, soak and cook, veggies and fruits. My Grey loves the Seed too, eats a few pellets and loves his veggies and fruits. One thing I have noted, is somedays he will eat one veggie or fruit like crazy and the next day he switches to one of the others. Probably like us humans, you eat something for lunch and you probably won't want it for dinner, unless you have no other option.
  7. Welcome Steve! It sounds like you have received good advice from some of our resident experts. You mention her leg strength is weak, could you explain why you think that? It is possible, that her claws are wrapped under and making it difficult and painful to walk, much less do much climbing or hanging upside down. After a vet check up, claw trim and perhaps a change in diet, you may see a very active Grey come to life :-)
  8. I am glad it brought a smile and perhaps a chuckle to you all :-)
  9. WHEW !! Thats a GReYT mistake to have made. We were all down on the Floor doing the 3 stooges Curly Spinning in circles ....:woohoo: :woohoo: {Emotions-00020120}
  10. Is your Grey a TAG or a CAG? A CAG minimum is normally > 400 Grams and a TAG > 275 Grams.
  11. I ran across this Grey dancing video on youtube, I wanted to share. It starts REALLY dancing at about 1:08 minutes into the Video. I have never seen a Grey use their Entire body and wings when dancing...enjoy :woohoo:

    Sticky Beaks

    LOL Beccy - Thats a good lip smacken, egg sticky beak if I ever saw one !! :woohoo:
  13. LOL Celery - Your last punch line is great :woohoo: Yes, please make a Video of this!!!! I'll see how Dayo responds :-)
  14. (((SIGH))) Ok, I will try putting him up on a cross pole that exists in the shower, it's about an inch in diameter, so it should be perfect for him. But, first I am going to try the sprayer ;-) I can already imagine Dayo's reaction.... {Emotions-00020070}
  15. I was thinking about taking Dayo in the Shower with me yesterday, but then I had second thoughts Kim put the Spray bottle someplace and now I can't find it. She always claims she put something where it should go... Anyway, I tried getting him down in the kitchen sink and he started to get pretty nervous so I raised him back up. I have also been placing a 9 inch pie pan with about a half inch of water in it in the bottom of his cage. He drinks out of it, but hasn't gone in yet. I think I will try the Sprayer...

    Biting my feet :D

    Yes you did Judy and we appreciate that :-) Your right, it's almost become an addiction to Grey Matter :woohoo: I have had him in the Cage for the last 2 hours and now he is tearing up the News paper in the floor and pulling the Towel all over the place. It's good to see him making his own fun.....he's going to need to do that for 8 and a half hours a day once I go back to work.
  17. Great going Rodney!! And - I'm happy Makena has a source that is reasonably local and ships :-)

    Biting my feet :D

    Dayo likes to chew on finger and toe nails. He broke one of Kim's finger nails the first day we had him home. He also likes to preen a persons hair, nibble on ears, chew hard on "Bling" and today just ripped a big chunk out of a bath towel. Looks like he's a normal child exploring :-)<br><br>Post edited by: danmcq, at: 2007/08/09 20:12
