1. Whats sad, is some breeders actually suck people in for a little more $$$ claiming "Cameroon" greys, as if they are special in some way from other Congo's, of which, they are not. The truth is, a Congo, is a Congo, is a Congo..... As with all critters and humans, the area in which they live and the abundance of foods and types dictates slight differences in bone density, size and weight accordingly. This is a good topic to have been started. Especially for new Congo owners or ones that are thinking of getting one. It will atleast alert them to the fact that some people try to classify Congos by region they MAY have come from in Africa. But, the reality is, they are a Congo and not a "Special" sub-species. As BMustee stated though, most Greys coming from breeders are not from a specific region in Africa, the are from the local breeders cage and if they happen to have a set of large boned, light gray Congo's, their offspring will have the same genetics as their Mom and Dad, just like us humans do. :-) Got big parents? your gonna be big. Got small parents? your gonna be small....etc.

Post edited by: danmcq, at: 2008/10/04 14:38
 2. We have spoken with both our Son's regarding this. They both interact with our Parrots and over the last couple of years, have been inquisitive and educated on how to properly care for them. Our Grand children also are enthralled with them, but only one would be trusted to care for them. Regardless of the age of the Parrot owner, sometimes life can throw a tragic curve you never know is coming, today or 30 years from now. Example - My wife had a good friend 26 years old, was diagnosed with a huge tumor and was gone in 90 days. You just never know when or where the end may come. Considering how your pets would be taken care of, incase anything ever happened is always a good thing to have lined up, so they don't end up in an animal control department or rescue. This is a great topic, thanks for starting it!! :-)
 3. Oh Jesus, I can not imagine the fear he felt in the previous home of being knocked to the floor by them. That makes me want to go knock them to the floor. Your right, they will flap to try and keep balance, if they are losing it. It's great to hear he wants to be with the rest of the flock and hang out in there with you all. :-) You have certainly made huge progress with this poor fellow. Hopefully, due to your great care and love. He will stop the plucking, regrow his feathers and gain flight and coordination. :-)
 4. Hi Pat, Only you can truly decide this based upon your best judgement regarding Tyco. As Casper mentioned, as long as your time and relationship does not change with Tyco, it should go ok. This is truly a tough decision your trying to make.
 5. Your plan and time periods sound like a good way to introduce Tyco to the Bird Room. One thought though, in case Tyco does want to be with you during the day at times, once you have the move completed, are you going to have a playstand or something for him to be able to sit with you at times? It may be necessary to keep him happy. :-)

I can only assume he is clipped and can only fly enough, uncontrolled to the and hit fairly hard, from what you have described. Since he is fearful of the walk now from his first fall that damaged his beak. I can only assume he his probably very fearful of the trip between the cage and playstand and just freaks out and jumps before you can get him to where you want. This poor guy is trying to adapt to the loving home you are providing, but his deep inner fears are still there. Is there any possibility that the playstand could be moved close enough for him to climb out of his cage and on to it? The other option may be, if he trusts you enough. Would be to move the perch you have him on closer to you body while transporting him and have your other hand in front to try and stop him from jumping.

 16. Ok - Everyone fess up..... You Know Your Into Parrots If: your home contains 8 cages, 10 playstands, 6 swings, and a bed. - you are zoned as a rainforest wildlife sanctuary by your city. - all your neighbors move away, and you live in an apartment. - you consider collard greens, dandelion greens, parsnips, mustard green, and escarole to be common vegetables. - you go through the store checkout with 18 different fruits and veggies (none of which you plan to eat). the person behind you at the checkout asks how you prepare the collard greens you're holding and you say that you haven't the slightest idea. - you have to explain to the lawncare company that you like dandelions in your yard. - you see absolutely nothing wrong with having every piece of furniture in your living room topped with cages while your lamp is on the floor, and you use a lapdesk because the desk itself holds your parrot toy box. - redecorating the house means finding a way to squeeze in another bird cage. - your garage contains extra cages, playstands, toys, but no car. - you've ever answered the phone with a parrot on your head. - you tell people on the phone, "I can't talk now; I've got a parrot on my head." - people overhearing your parrot discussions think you're talking about your date. - you drive around on recycling day looking for the biggest piles of newspaper to steal and feel guilty when people look out their windows and pity you. - you want world peace, to save the environment, a cure for aids and a better way to clean bird poo. - you have vases full of feathers instead of flowers. - you have 3 tv's and none of them are for you to use. - your cd collection contains opera, clasical, and speech lessons, none of which you listen to. - you havent owned an alarm clock in 10 years, but never get up late. - when your at Home Depot your busy dreaming about building new play areas. - you have no carpet in your house, anywhere. - you shower in the guest bathroom, because the master bath is too full of perches. - your friends come over for dinner and offer to make a salad, to which you reply "none of those vegetables are for humans!" - you havent taken a vacation in 10 years, and like it that way. - every room in your home is equipped with U.V. lighting. - your walls are lined with plexiglass, your celings are lined with plexiglass, and your floors are covered in plastic runners, and they are all still stained. - you have replaced your vaccum at least twice a year.
