I'm a 57 year old who had the good fortune to retire in 2013. Worked from 1979-2013 in Oncology, Orthopedics, ISU and Detox.
My husband and I have a cabin in the San Bernardino mountains in California ( Running Springs). We spend summers here and go throughout the year. We have a travel trailer and take long trips and short camping trips with the 3 dogs and now the parrot.
We have 11 tortoises; one Ibera Greek, 3 California Deserts and 7 Redfoots. Each species has outdoor environments that meet their specific environment. Some are kept dry with deep burrows and others have large insulated, heated houses with increased humidity. I really enjoy gardening for them and keeping their yards full of edible foods, water etc. they're easy to own.
I owned a CAG for 17 years and she died of Kidney disease. In early November 2015 we got a 5 month old Timneh Grey, from Old World Aviaries. She is perfect. I am working on recall/ target training with her, she is almost ready to have an Aviator Harness put on. She has gone camping twice in the travel trailer. She's a perfect baby!

  1. Hi, I did tons of research on Timneh breeders last year. In November I got my Timneh from Scott Lewis at Old World Aviaries. She is just shy of 10 months old. She was shipped. She is a wonderful baby! Scott Lewis is very well regarded. Good luck!
  2. Sounds like a good and busy little vacation
  3. Terrible story! Hopefully the Greys owner was sound asleep when the house was burning. Terrible!
  4. This is beyond awful! If that kid was mine he would be wearing cement shoes. Very sad for the pets and the poor family. Hopefully he will be charged with a felony and not a slap on the wrist.
  5. That's great! What a sweet little voice
  6. I had a boxer and two Rottweilers with a CAG for many years. The CAG loved all dogs. She knew all dogs by name, family members dogs by name etc. the dogs were indoor dogs and all animals were treated as a part of the family. I never had any issues that weren't 100% positive.
  7. It does sound like she was traumatized in the long shipping process. Glad she is eating and drinking. I would calmly sit in a chair next to her cage and read or sing to her. Let her really " feel" that you are her friend She just lost everything she loved and was in a plane, for a long time. I would give her time to adjust. Good luck.
  8. That is unbelievably sweet!
  9. Great pictures. The bird looks thrilled.
  10. Thank you for the warm welcomes. I'm hoping to get a picture from the breeder. I would love to see her.
  11. She looks really happy on her little gym, getting super special time! She's darling!
  12. I would like to introduce myself My name is Kathy and I had a CAG for 17 years. She died of kidney disease years ago, at the age of 18. She was raised and fed the best of foods. Harrison's, healthy bird breads, bean, pasta and other foods in a chop, fresh veggies, fruits, etc. I loved her and we had wonderful years together. I can't explain the delay ( I think it broke my heart to lose her) but I have decided to get a TAG. I'm in contact with Scott Lewis, at Old World Aviaries and have placed a deposit on a baby that will be fully weaned and fledged in Oct. It's time to be a part of this forum and I fully look forward to reading your stories, seeing your pictures and sharing the same. I'm happy to be here.
