  1. Just wanted to do an update on Ajahni (aka Johnny). He has grown so much and developed such a personality. He gets around as good as any bird, he can even land on my arm and shoulder, but prefers to stand in my hand or just sit on my chest and watch tv and get neck rubs. He is fully flighted, which really helped his balance and confidence. Seems he's not afraid of anything, loves new toys and exploring. Well here is a pic of him watching me get the fruits and veggies ready.
  2. Just took a few more pics of Ajahni. He's getting so big.
  3. Thanks Birdhouse and Greywings, appreciate the help, links and pics. I'll post some pics when I get it setup.
  4. Greywings, thanks for the pic, exactly what I was looking for. Ajahni amazes me everyday, he keeps walking better, loves new toys, and enjoys playing with pellets, fruits and veggies. Today while sitting on my chest watching tv, he began to climb around and made his way up towards my shoulder. His one leg still slips every so often, but definitely keeps doing better. I am sure when he learns to fly that it will greatly improve his balance and just add to his confidence.
  5. Just a quick pic of Europa relaxing on my leg while we watch tv. She's doing great at stepping up, always acts like she wants me to scratch her neck, but not sure I trust her yet
  6. Just wanted to post another pic of Ajahni, he's doing good. Working on setting up his cage. So here he is chilling on the couch, walking around a bit. He still loses his balance once in a while when walking, but getting better.
  7. Thanks! I have been looking at some of the large guinea pig cages, not sure how they'd hold up. I know someone previously mentioned a chinchilla cage in another thread I was reading. Was thinking about 40"-48" long and 20"-24" high. With horizontal bars and some shelf perches, then plenty of toys. He really loves toys. It will mostly be for him to sleep in and when I'm not home, as I hate keeping a bird in a cage.
  8. Been searching google looking for some pics of how people with greys that are missing feet or most toes have their cages setup. If you happen to have any or know a link, can you please share. Thanks.
  9. Tell your son congrats, and it's great to know another grey has found a permanent loving home.
  10. Was just looking for a tent for greys, thanks.
  11. Greywings, thanks for the info, I'd love to see more pics of her setup if possible. I was planning on a ferret/chinchilla cage, as I heard it works better since they are longer and the bars are horizontal. Today I placed a small toy in with him, took about 30 seconds and he was playing with it. He's also interested in playing with some pellets from the dish, so looks like things are going good. Here's some pics for anyone who likes pics. Playing... Busted. Caught me taking a pic. Checking out the phone, he's very curious. Getting some love
  12. My 16yr old is named Europa, they named her after a moon of Jupiter. My baby is named Ajahni, which means he who wins the struggle, since he has no toes on either foot.
  13. It's great to read about a grey that is getting a second chance at life. Makes me smile every time I read one of these posts. Also sounds like she is warming up to you, I know exactly how it feels the first time they trust enough to step up, it's great! Thanks for giving a great home to a grey in need!
  14. Very cute. It is amazing how fast they change and how quick they learn.
  15. Well, I had no plans to get a second grey, we have only had Europa a short time (she is doing great by the way). But, this little guy needed someone. A friend told me about him, and I won't go into why the breeder wasn't going to finish raising him up, but he ended up with us. So here is Ajahni, which means one who overcomes. His father decided to chew off his feet while in the nest, so he has no toes and barely any feet. That's why I chose the name. So far he has been great, acts like every other bird I ever hand raised, doesn't seem to notice he is different. He's still working on his walking and balance, but he's doing good, walks around the couch and lays on my chest. Loves to cuddle, get neck rubs, belly rubs and being held. So here are some pics of him over the last two weeks, and one of Europa, because she loves taking pics.
  16. So we are now on week 3 of having Europa in our family. She continues to do good with me, walking across the top of her cage to whatever side I'm on. We got her a plate just for her for when we eat breakfast and dinner, and she comes down and joins us. She's letting met pick her up from the cage, floor or wherever she is. Until today, when she sits on my arm, she pretty much stayed on my hand or forearm. Today she decided to go walking up my arm and sitting on my shoulder every time I pick her up. It kind of freaks me out, coming from macaws that I never let on my shoulders. She is out of the cage pretty much all day, loves to be on the counter, table, top of her cage or door of her cage, but won't touch the bird stand I got for her. I even bought a perch and attached it to the outside of her cage, but she won't touch it, she purposely goes around it to sit on the top of the cage door. She's still making sounds and talking, mostly the second I leave the room, but also some while we watch tv or sit around. She says some funny stuff. We'll thanks for reading, just wanted to give a quick update.
  17. First, thanks to everyone for the warm welcome in the welcome forum. For those who do not know Europa, she is a 16yr old female CAG that had lived with her previous owner since she was 6 months old. Unfortunately, they had an issue arise that forced them to have to rehome her. I am going to remain in contact with them, as they were very attached to her. So she has been with me now for about 10 days. I am going at her speed. The second day she was coming out of her cage and sitting on the door while I talked to her. She also ate some breakfast on a plate next to me. By day four she was looking at me and raising her foot to be picked up, so I did. I still haven't tried to give her scratches, but she will eat from my hand and seems to enjoy being by me. Yesterday while doing dishes she kept making noises at me, so I brought her over to the counter. My wife got her a small radio and today she wanted to check it out while I was in the kitchen with her. So, thats about where we are now. Here are some pics I got of her today.
  18. They had gotten her when she was 6 months old and it's been her only home other then mine. Unfortunately they had a life changing situation which forced them to rehome her. The guy and I have spoken a few times in the week that she has been with me, he truly cared for her, and hopefully we will remain in contact.
  19. Today she sat on my arm and ate some banana and nuts. I feel she is doing extremely well, and I continue to remind myself to go slow. I talk to her a lot, and I know when she wants to be picked up, as he lifts her leg and leaves her toes open and waits for me to put my arm there. When she's not in the mood, she just looks at me.
  20. Thanks for the warm welcome. It's been about a week now, and she is still doing good. She is talking a lot and exploring the house. Doesn't seem scared and even follows my wife around the kitchen. I'm so glad we found her. Here is a pic of her eating some bananas with me in the morning and another of her chilling on the cage door while I was talking to her.
  21. Hello, my name is Joe and I am in South Florida. I've been around birds most of my life and just adopted a CAG that is a 16yr old female. She looks great and seems friendly, I held her with her previous owner before I brought her home. Now, I am just letting her settle in and relax, talking to her and spending time on and off near her cage. Shes making her whistling noises and the noise of her previous owners email alert, so hopefully she settles in well.
