  1. Thank you for all the great advice... To answer some questions some of you have asked: 1. The bird was already on pellets before I got her (Roudybush, and then she started eating Zupreem). 2. Warm soft boiled foods: The store had her on a diet of 3 different blends of L'Avian (Bean Cuisine, Cream of Tweet, Carribean Crunch) 3. Veggies: She was eating them fine when I took her home. Anyway... She's not eating any of the above. And now, even with the seed mix, she hardly touches it. She'll pick at a couple of sunflower seeds here and there, but that's it.
  2. Hi all... I think I'm having a big problem. For those that haven't read my first posts, I got a 12 year old CAG about two weeks ago. Since I got her, she's been a finnicky eater, but it seemed she was at least eating enough. Yesterday I came home, and she hardly touched any of her pellets. I didn't think it too big a deal, and gave her some seed mix. Which she devoured (she wouldn't stop eating for almost an hour). I left for work today, and again left her a bowl full of pellets(which she had been eating just fine until these last coule of days). I came home today, and they hadn't even been TOUCHED. Not at all. Usually I can tell, because there will be pellets and crumbs in her water bowl from her dunking them. She hadn't eaten a single one, and drank almost all of her water. I think she's also losing weight. When she stretched her wings back, I could see the bones of her sternum. I've just tried feeding her everything I could get my hands on: Two different types of pellets(RoudyBush, Zupreem) Veggies (cooked and fresh) Fruit Several cooked mixes that the pet store had been feeding her Seed mix Nuts She won't eat anything!!!! She nibbled a bit at some boiled cauliflower, but that's it. I'm really freaked out and worried right now. Does anyone know ANYTHING that might help? Please, I would really appreciate it. 3. I don't know if this will be the greatest advice but... Go out and get a net. Prefferably as long in reach as possible. If he lets you get close to him without flying away, then get near him and scoop him with it. Then flip it around so he's trapped in there. Yeah, it'll probably be a bit traumatic, but its better than never getting him back and who knows what happening to him. Good luck man, I hope you get your little guy back.
  4. For those that read my prior post, I brought home a 12 year old CAG home about two weeks ago. Tonight I had a moment of insight into this amazing creature, and fell in love with her for life... A little background to the situation. I think at her old home, she must have seen a lot of cop movies or TV shows. As to myself, I am a police officer. A rather young one. I'm 23 years old, which is unusual in this line of work. Anyways... She was sitting in my room as I was getting changed into my uniform to go to work (which she has witnessed every day for two weeks now). In the middle of this, I received a phone call from dispatch that there was an emergency situation that would require special equipment (that I normally do not carry). I don't know whether she picked it up in my voice, or whether it was when she saw me pull out and load my assault rifle (first time she had seen it). But she said clear as day "What are you doing with that rookie?" I was utterly stunned. Not only did she pick up on the rifle, but obviously on the fact that I'm young for being a cop. I said to her "I have to go save lives". She then gave some kind of whistle, and said "Be careful out there." And as I put her in her cage and turned to leave, she said "Come home safe". I was shocked, and touched to the point that I had tears in my eyes. I now love this bird with all of my heart, and will do so every day that I am fortunate enough to have her.
  5. Thank you all for your responses, I really appreciate the advice. And the warm welcome. : ) Fairy: I've had her for about two weeks now. And to everyone, I'll be putting pics up here in the next couple of days or so. Judygram: Her name is Cacoo, but I don't think I'll be keeping that. lol She doesn't respond to it anyway. I'm renaming her either to Percephone, or Megaera. I've been trying both with her, just waiting to see which one she takes to better.
  6. Hi! I'm new to the forum, and new to owning an African Grey (Congo). This is not my first parrot, and I did all the research I could before buying her, but some things I'm not clear on. I just had a few questions, and would appreciate any help... For starters, I did not purchase a baby. By best estimates, she as about 12-14 years old. The pet shop I got her from took her on consignment, as her owner was terminally ill and wanted to find a new home for her. I figured instead of buying a baby, I could give this bird a good and loving home. My first question is, will she learn new things (words, habits, tricks, etc), or is that age too old for them to pick up new stuff? Right now the only things I've heard from her were a telephone ring, and a random "hello" here and there... Also, will the bird bond with me on any sort of level, or is it too late for that too? I spend all the free time I have with her, anywhere between 4-10 hours a day. My other question concerns her diet. The store send me home with a several varieties of food that I would need to cook for her. She won't touch any of them. All she eats are Zupreem pellets, and not very much at that. She seems to be keeping her weight on though. I guess the final question I have is that she seems to always be trembling, especially the feathers on her breast and wing tips. This happens whenever I approach her. The store said not to bee too concerned about this, as she is probably just stressed from being in a new place. But I just wanted to check. Thank you, again I would appreciate any help.
