  1. Oh yay! I thought I was the newbie challenged one
  2. Reading through some of these post make me wonder How many of you do and don't let your grey sit on your shoulder? Zeke doesn't bite me and I let him ride my shoulder with no issues, he is 8. I briefly had an umbrella cockatoo thAt I didn't trust and would not allow on my shoulder. That is a seriously scary beak! I pay a lot of attention to Zekes body language and if he's on edge I just let him be. He has bit my two year old twice on the finger & once really hard on his nose. He got my husbands lip when he came in for a kiss from above (he tolerates hubby but I'm his favorite). Yesterday I had Zeke on my wrist and my 3 year old daughter was running repeatedly under him, I told her to stop, she did it again and he lunged to bite me but I was able to dodge. So I'm at risk if my kids misbehave and he is on me
  3. Oh no! I am so sorry to hear that. I suspected that May have been the case as I knew he was on disability and I recently tried to call him with a parrot question and it was no longer his number (we lived in the same metroplex area and he was the one that told me which vet to go to). Did I have the same name on the other forum? Haha I don't even remember! I'm glad there are some familiar people here
  4. This is a test to see if profile picture shows up....
  5. Sure! I have two large dogs also so we always have a house sitter come take care of everyone but I always worry about Zeke feeling too lonely if we are gone more then a few days and I don't ask my house sitter with zero parrot experience to take him out. I used to go to tree top bird shop and they would have little birdie happy hours but they are closed now so yesterday I checked out Kookabura bird store in Carrollton for the first time and liked it. I have a great friend here in prosper that is about to adopt two CAG's from Az and she just discovered that her neighbor also has a grey so they are out there and close I saw your post on the costco car port things - genius! I was originally thinking of having a flagstone or concrete bottom for easy clean up and to aide in keeping out predators but now after reading the link you posted that had diagrams etc I'm wondering if that's a bad idea due to him possibly falling and injuring his breast bone??? In that link they opted for wood chips/mulch but this sounds difficult to clean. So I'm torn. Thoughts?
  6. I tried to post at least a profile picture but I'm apparently more challenged then I thought! Haha and that was after reading the instructions in the thread of how to do it. I was able to go to full reply mode and click the attachment but when I got into the photobucket portion is when I had problems (the image is already in photobucket). I also did not see how to upload the profile picture but figured if I could create the album I could address that part later. I'm pretty sure JudyGram was on the old forum too, right?
  7. Hi! I'm in Prosper, we used to be in Plano. What route are you going with your aviary? I would love to hear about it/see it
  8. Hi Brat Birds, I love the picture quote in your signature! I can't remember the exact name but I thought gray was int he title or aye it was African gray???? I can't find it anywhere so I'm assuming it no longer exist. One of the moderators was Preston who lived in the northern area of DFW Tx..... Why do you ask? Are you possible familiar with it?
  9. How may I view the photos? I didn't see them in your profile but I could easily be missing something as I'm new
  10. Murfchck that looks amazing!! We are also in the DFW area and I want to build something similar. Where did you get the bamboo thatched roofing and did you find it cheaper to buy a dog run and disassemble it? It seems like it might be cheaper to build it from scratch but I haven't started pricing it yet. On the parrot safe wire, do they come in different sizes of opening? (Does that make sense?). I wouldn't leave my CAG out there unattended but I'd still like to know a snake or something couldn't slither in there with him so I was guessing I would need a tight wire. I'm so impressed with your set up!
  11. Ok excuse me; I just found a great thread under the outdoor bird room thread
  12. Hi bird lovers! I'm new to this forum (the grey forum I used to be a member of years ago must have closed down?). My 8 year old CAG is Zeke and he has been with us since he was a wee babe and in those 8 years we have gone through many family changes (older kids graduating, two more human babies being born and moves) that he has always handled like a champ. In our previous house he had a swing on the patio near the pool where he often hung out with us. In our new home the backyard is too open with too strong of a wind to allow this so I would like to build an outdoor aviary for him. He would never be outside unattended but I still want it secure from predators, fun for him and easy to clean. I would love to see pictures of any outdoor aviaries you may have. I did look in the "show me your cage" thread. Again, this will just be another play area for him, not his home. Thanks
