  1. Nice photos Heather as always, I like that butt shot and the fourth pic the best but then they are all excellent, thanks for sharing them with us.
  2. OMG, Dave cooks too, wow I am impressed, just what else are you good at Dave:whistle: a man of many talents. Makes me want to go out and purchase some asparagus!LOL
  3. Berna you do have the touch alright, if anyone can get that Scarlet out of his shell it will be you, you go girl, but I know it has to be hard to get to work so closely to these birds for a while and then someone buys them and takes them home. It doesn't take long to get attached to these birds so I know it has to hurt to let them go sometimes.
  4. If I am not mistaken that is a bottle of red palm oil I see in the fourth picture:laugh:  I think diet has a lot to do with how good they look and Kip is certainly fed good as its obvious, good job Mark.:cheer: B)
  5. Kip is one lucky bird, Mark to have you taking such good care of her and you look so organized too there with all them little piles of food ready to be packaged up, but I would say that a trip to Hawaii sure goes a long way in making up for it. You have 2 lucky ladies in your life Mark:) B)
  6. Hello Kate and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and April. Please read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do not hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. Yes please share some pictures of April if you have any as we love to admire each other's greys.
  7. I am sure Liath gave you her stamp of approval, thanks for sharing the pics with us.
  8. Whether it is a year old or just yesterday it is good advice and hence some older threads hold some good help that bears repeating. B)
  9. I fancy it a lot but I am in the USA so I would be unable to come but we have thought about doing something similiar here but it has yet to take hold and materialize. I wish you luck with it and hope if it does happen that you have a good turnout but wish I could be there.
  10. Matthew, some greys do play rough with their toys and maybe that is what is happening to Tucker's feathers and when you bathe him and he does not help any by fluffing up his feathers so the water can get down to the skin its hard to get their skin wet. I know for Josey does not like showers and it is hard to get their feathers wet because of the oil on them from the preen gland. I am inclined to think it may be something dietary he is missing that is causing the feather shaft to be more brittle and easier to break but I don't know what it may be. Some of the other members who are more knowledgeable than I am will be able to shed more light on the subject.
  11. Welcome back Tina and congrats on the new addition to your flock, we would love to hear more about these greys so be sure to return more often and keep us updated, staying away for nearly a year is way too much time so come on and join in the sharing and fun. Love to see some pictures if you have any you would share with us.
  12. Have a good time in Vegas, Spence and remember that what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas:laugh: :woohoo:
  13. Hanadupre, you will probably find that aloe vera juice in the pharmacy department of Walmart, thats where I found the jug I bought, if they don't have it you might check at a health food store for it.
  14. They are all lovely birds Berna and I bet that was a wild ride, OMG:ohmy: you were doing 90 mph down the interstate:ohmy: where were the police when you need them:whistle:   just kidding Berna;) Slow it down a bit will ya:P
  15. Thanks for posting the results of Caesar's necropsy, we always want to know what happened to our loved ones but knowing that it could have been prevented if you had just been there at that moment is heart wrenching to say the least. We cannot spend every moment with our birds, we spend quality time but we cannot be there with them every waking moment to ensure that this type of thing never happens again. This was a freak accident and was in no way your fault so don't blame yourself, I don't think Caesar would want that for you, you have another bird that needs you now. Sad to say but these things happen so know this in your heart that you did everything possible to make his life enjoyable and take a little comfort from the happy memories you will always carry with you of him. You will see him again one day as he has gone over the Rainbow Bridge so don't berate yourself too much over this, Caesar would not want that for you. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers that your heart may be lifted by the memories of a happy Caesar, even though he had a short life he was loved by you with all your heart. Take some time to deal with this loss but come back and share some more with us of your other grey, the tag.
  16. Congrats on bringing home your new to you grey and she sounds like she is a wonderful bird and you two are getting along very nicely, thats great to hear especially since she is 15 years old, but then she may know a good thing when she sees it;) Did she come with a name or are you going to start off with a new one? Pictures, pictures we must see pictures:P :cheer:
  17. Hello Terirose and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and your quest for another grey. I'm so sorry to hear you lost your grey but you know what amazing creatures they are and now you are ready to love another one again. I don't know of any breeders in your area but if you go to www.avianbiotech.com and do a search by state you will find any that are in your area. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads so read thru them at your leisure and do not hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can.
  18. LOL Patsy, this thread was started in October of last year but it has been ongoing since then, you are welcome to junp in at any time and post, some of us are trying to lose some weight and we come here and update it from time to time. I am sorry to hear you have diabetes but then it is even more important for you to be on a sensible eating plan and exercise routine.
  19. I would suggest you not allow him on your shoulder until he learns to trust you and you learn to read his body language, when they are on our shoulder they tend to feel superior. Greys tend to pick one person over another but that does not mean he will not like you, he may just have a different relationship with you than he does with your hubby.

  21. That is too funny, sorry I had to laugh but yes it could have been a disaster, Shadow is too smart for his own good, he must have watched the dogs use that doggy door and figured if they could go thru it then he could too and he certainly did, what a character. Thanks for sharing that with us.
  22. OMG, she doesn't like cheese, Josey will go nuts over cheese but good that she does like greens then, she can get some calcium for them. I would be pretty excited myself at the appearance of an egg.:woohoo:
  23. What a heartwarming story Linda, Max certainly knew just what your mother needed and it just goes to show what our greys are capable of, thanks so much for sharing that with us.:cheer:
  24. Hello JokersMamma and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Joker. Wow, that is some story of how you came to get Joker, glad he wasn't hurt in that fire and I bet your neighbors are sad they couldn't take him with them but good for you that you could take him in and give him a good home. From your avatar I am guessing you have a Tag and not a Cag, these are two separate species of greys and the Tags have the horn colored beak and the darker tail. You need to do a little research on the african grey to know what you are dealing with especially if you have not kept birds before. You will find lots of useful and helpful information in our many threads so read thru as many of them as you can and do ask any and all questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. Since he is 7 years old he is somewhat set in his ways so you need to take some time for him to get settled in his new home and be very patient with him. Greys are by nature very cautious and wary of anything new and that includes new owners. His biting is his way of telling you he does not want you messing with him right now, allow him to feel more comfortable with you, talk to him softly and tell him what you are doing. Open his cage and allow him to come out on his own and yes he may even be growling at you but that will pass in time as he comes to trust you. He may talk and make sounds as he gets more used to his new home, most greys have to feel more at home to vocalize and he may not like being touched very much. Some greys love to be touched all over and some only want their neck skritched, you will learn to take your cues from him as to what he wants and will allow. Remember this will probably be a long slow progress but it will be well worth it when he learns to trusts you and bond swith you. We would love to see Joker if you have some pictures besides the one in your avatar, he looks very nice in that pic.
  25. I am on the east coast so no I will not be able to go but wish I could, it sounds like a really big deal and that is what I go to a bird show for is the toys and stuff. Please post again sometime after the show and tell us if you kep your promise "I WILL NOT GET ANOTHER BIRD" {Feel-good-0002006E}
