  1. "I gotta hurry up and finish this before Mommy finds out"
  2. It would be fine if you put some type of travel cage into it and leave it unzipped like you said, that way Indy could get some fresh air and be with you, let us know what you end up doing and maybe post a pic of him in it.
  3. Thats probably why they are getting rid of it because of the rust and I would be leary of getting this cage as it would cost you the price of a new cage to try to fix this one. You can't just paint it with any kind of paint, it has to be powder coated type and the price of having it sand blasted and then painted would be equal or more than a new cage. You can find some good cages for a reasonable price on ebay.
  4. Oh my Cindy, I know how you must feel but he will be just fine, the poor dear, wonder if he will still be so curious about zippers after this, oh well time will tell, I look forward to the update.
  5. Shady sure is a cute little thing sitting there on her bum, it will be interesting to see if she keeps this up, once she gets her tail I doubt it but then you never know, thanks Pat for sharing another pic with us.
  6. I bet that will be a hoot to see, keep us informed of any new developments but I kind of have an idea that they may just get along, thats what I am hoping.
  7. Gosh she almost made me dizzy watching her spin around on that rope, she is having a ball, thanks for sharing that with us.
  8. Hello Greymom and welcome to the family, we are so glad you found us and we look forward to hearing a lot more about you and Rita. That is a wonderful story of how you came to acquire Rita, you were wanting one and Rita was in need of a good home, I am glad you found one another, it was meant to be. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads so do read thru them at your leisure and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. We would love to see some pictures of Rita if you would share some with us.
  9. Greymom, why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us some more about you and your grey.
  10. Thanks for the wonderful update and the picture too, I think most baby greys take to new surroundings very quickly, now as he matures expect things to be a little different.
  11. Sounds like a plan Pat, you got one curiosity seeker and you are going to have your hands full with him/her but don't you just love it. I know we are in for some good stories of the adventures and maybe misadventures of Shady.
  12. I would steer clear of birds in petstores, not all of them are that way but a lot of their birds come from bird mills, just like the puppies come from puppy mills. In saying that I mean the birds don't get a lot of one on one attention and are treated like a piece of merchandise instead of a precious baby that needs individual attention. This one year old bird would probably be ok but if I were you I would want to go see it in person. Here is a site that you can look for breeders by state, have a look and see what is offered: www.avianbiotech.com
  13. Susan is right, even though it takes a while for the flights to grow out that is the best way, sometimes it can damage the follicle when they pull them out, I wouldn't want to take the chance.

    Trust

So he has kind of been passed around a little and that is affecting him too, he has only been with you 2 months and I think he will need more time to trust again so be patient. You are the one who he has responded to the best and you will gain his trust if you go at his pace, he will let you know when he is ready for more.
  15. You can also look for bird toys in the baby section of stores, a lot of the baby toys are suitable for greys to play with, check it out sometime.
  16. The biscuits list sugar as the second ingredient and that glucose-fructose syrup is sugar also so in my opinion it would not be too good for Ozzy, I would limit him on those, they should be a treat and not on the menu every day. If he loves them then you have found what he likes most and use that for rewards for things you want to teach him to say or do.

    Trust

Yes you will have to work on building trust and I think in time he may come to trust you again, just be patient with him as he has been thru a very traumatic experience at least to him it is. Do not force anything on him, he will only interpret that as aggression, respect his space and if he wants to be left alone then don't bother him. Since he views you as "head" of the flock he seems to not want to talk in front of you and he is studying what you are saying so he can repeat it later. We do have several members here who are very knowledgeable about the greys and they may have more advice than I can offer but if you will share some more information about Poppy it will help in providing some answers for you.
  18. Yeah I would say you could especially if you have a smaller one you could use until Shady gets big enough for a full size cage, just pad the bottom and leave the perches out until he/she needs them. You got a curious one that wants to be where the action is, that is so cute and sweet.
  19. Hello Summerc25 and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and your new grey to be. I am so glad to hear you are researching to learn all you can before you committ to one of these amazing creatures especially if you have never had a parrot before. Yes it is better to start with a baby grey since you have never had one before as an older bird that has previous owners usually has some traits or behavior that will make it more difficult to work with and someone who has other parrots can deal with it better than someone new to birds. Yes we have other members here who have cats, dogs and other household pets and you will have to supervise any out of cage time when the grey is out for if one of the cats gets a hold of the grey it could kill it and not necessarily from the attack itself but from the transfer of saliva from the cat to bird, it has bacteria in their mouths that can be lethel to birds. Please read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can.
  20. "Just a quick little bite then no one has to know, heh heh heh"
  21. Wow, those are for the parrots who have everything, yes I could spend a lot in a short period of time but will I, I don't think so but thanks for sharing that with us.

    Mothers Day

Yes Happy Mother's Day to those in the UK, may your day be so blessed.
  23. She is beautiful and I knew you would get her, she is going to make a nice addition to your flock, keep us informed of how things go especially after Rainbow gets a chance to really meet her, thanks for sharing her with us.
  24. So glad that Erleen is home safe and sound and I hope her Mommy will make sure this never happens again, thanks Tiffany for letting us know.
  25. I am so jealous Terri that your Bella will hang upside down so easily and I can't get Josey to do anything like that, maybe she is part bat. She is hilarious, thanks for sharing that with us.
