Well congrats on Ernie finally taking the plunge to get in the shower spray, wow if they all could be this easy then the rest of us would have it made. I guess he just had to be in the mood so to speak. Thanks for sharing your heartwarming story with us.

You know some of them are smart enough to know that what is in their bowl is not quite the same as your bowl and Koko is one of them, can't pull the wool over her eyes. Thanks for sharing that story with us.

My little grey feathered friend whom I have come to love so much is 3 years old today and I want to let you all know that it has been the best 3 years of my life. I never knew a bird could come to mean so much to me but she does and I am so blessed for it. We have nothing special planned for today, just that I am home on holiday today so I will get to spend lots of time with her, maybe try to get her to eat a strawberry as she doesn't seem to care for them but Sunny will tear into one right now. She does have some new toys so I will break them out and see how she likes them. Thanks for letting me share my happiness with you all.

Yes today is Memorial Day for Americans, the day we remember those who gave their lives so we could continue to enjoy the freedoms we have today.

Keywe wrote: Exactly, or if they only cared half as much would be enough to make a huge difference. My only regret is that I didn't get birds earlier in my life, I was already way over 50 years of age before I got my first parrot, my sun conure and then Josey over a year later. I realize now that I have missed many years of enjoyment by waiting so long but I had been more of a cat person until now, I can't remember a time when I didn't have at least one cat. I still love cats but am more focused on my birds now and couldn't imagine my life without them. They are very much like having small children in the house and I care for them as much as my human children and grandchildren, although don't tell them that:blush: I know I never tire of seeing pictures of our greys and hearing about new members and their greys and seeing them post about their adventures with their fids and what they are doing new today.

I'm so glad to hear that Willow's beak can be corrected, it was the wisest thing to take her to be seen by the vet. Her beak probably has a different feel to it so she is constantly checking it out by rubbing her tongue on it but she will get used to it. She doesn't seem to hold a grudge like some do, Josey is pretty much the same way, once we leave the vets office she is pretty much back to her old self. I do not know anything about a red belly either but congrats on your acquistion of Nicholas, and it will take some time for him to show his true personality but like you said, time will tell. Would love to see a pic of him if you have one you would share with us.

They certainly can surprise us with their wit and humor, amazing how they can use words in context, I love hearing other's conversations with their greys.

Oh the fun begins Carol, you haven't seen anything yet my dear, thanks for sharing those cute pics with us, looks like they have you right where they want you.

Sounds good to me Erika, I have heard of those types of tools and used properly it works well, also it probably does not make any noise that a dremel sometimes scares the birds. I don't know of anyone here who uses that kind of tool but I wouldn't hesitate to employ their services if they were available. Thanks for sharing that experience with us Erika.

You got it Dan and even though I had heard of it I had no idea they had such a large aviary for just greys, I will do my best to check it out, would make a wonderful day trip, maybe if I can get something planned maybe you could fly out and join me on the visit.

So many choices.. and now the Bennet Cages!
judygram replied to lovethatgrey's topic in Cages & Homes
Those are very nice cages but too pricey for my budget, maybe if I ever win the lottery but in the meantime they have adequate cages. Do keep us informed if you do decide to purchase from this company, I would be interested in what you get. -
They would most definitely need some shade, at least provide it when outside for they may just not want to be in the direct sun for long. I hear ya on the "British Sunshine" I guess it more of a no show.

I have heard of it but I have never visited but I plan to if at all possible, it is several hours away but I could make a day of it so I could spend some time there. You have to put your name on a list for they do not do visitations on a daily basis, only at certain times so I will email them and see what happens. Thanks Dan for bringing this to my attention for it is something I will gladly check out.

See sometimes when one door closes another opens, this was meant to be Tommy, not a replacement for Zack but another companion to help fill the void left by his death. You have much love to give and I hope one of these little cockatiels will bring you much happiness, I think Zack would have wanted that for you. Keep us informed and of course pictures would be very much appreciated.

Then no wonder he is biting, he has some serious trust issues so that means you will have to be very patient with him to gain trust enough for him to stop biting. Let him go at his own pace, do not force any thing with him, it may take a long time but I think you can do it with much love. Yes technically he is still young at 3 years and should take the transition to a new home better than an older one would but having been mistreated in the past makes it more difficult but not impossible. Have you shared any pictures of Rubbi with us yet, I would love to see some if you have them?

Two websites to look for breeders by state is: www.avianbiotech.com www.birdbreeders.com

Thanks Sarah for a wonderful update on Gil, he sounds like a real sweetheart and he has come a long way in a short period of time. Do not worry if he has a relapse and plucks some for it happens, the important thing is not to make a deal of it, ignore it but you may have turned him around hopefully that is a thing of the past. Congrats on getting him on more veggies and if he likes them warm and tender then warm and tender will be what he gets.

Take it easy for a while, it takes an older bird a little longer to settle in but give him some time and he should get better at not biting, he is a little scared at the moment and overwhelmed with his new home.

OMG I am so happy they're home!! Pics too

You have two beautiful greys Carol, glad they got to you safe and sound, now the real fun begins, enjoy. Thanks for sharing some pictures with us. -
The only real differences in Tags versus Cags are the color of the beak and the tail feathers with the Tag being the smaller of the two. I chose the Cag because of their bright red tail and black beak. I have a female but I didn't chose her because she was a she, I already had a deposit on her and she turned out to be female but I would have took it anyway if it was a male, didn't matter to me. I do not clip my grey's wings but hers were clipped when she was fledging and I am allowing them to grow out, they are birds after all and birds are meant to fly, they make more confident parrots that way. I already knew someone to get my grey from but we have many members here who can recommend good breeders and there are websites you can go to look for breeders in your area. I personally would be a little leary of shipping live birds but there are members here who have purchased greys that were shipped to them but a new baby grey will be going into a new environment anyways when going to a new home so one more thing won't much matter.

You might need a whole pitcher of them for I have an idea you aren't sleeping tonight!!

Feathers, feathers everywhere, the kids know when they come to the house that they are going to see some feathers, fact of life when living with birds. Chimay may be going thru an early molt but not to worry.
