  1. Well the good news is she can stop the squeal when she wants to but the bad news is you will have to ignore it for the time being. Once they learn some sound and they like repeating it there is not much you can do to make them stop it other than just ignoring it. This is something she picked up from her former owner but as time goes by she may do it less and less. The same thing applies to the cheering for a particular team, she will gradually say it less and less now that she no longer hears it.

  3. Hello Matt and welcome to our family, we are so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Dafney. Thats wonderful you could open your home and heart for this grey and I am sure you will do an excellent job with her as her former owners did. It is always so enheartening to hear that for whatever reason they gave her up they had taken excellent care of her and probably socialized her properly so the transition will be more smooth. You are doing the right thing to learn all you can about the grey and you will learn a lot from reading thru our many threads for we have many knowledgeable members who will be willing to help you in any way they can, all you have to do is ask. What an excellent idea to note all her particular likes and dislikes and her preferences and other things about her, it will help immensely with her transition. We do love pictures here so when you can share some of Dafney we would appreciate it very much.
  4. Wow another room, how many more rooms are we gonna have, I noticed the african grey room is now the grey lounge, nice name change, guess we will find out about the other changes won't we. Guess I will have to dig up my cage picture or take new ones.
  5. dhorje wrote: That was my opinion at first sight also, you should feed them some fresh beets and see what the morning bomb looks like:blink: :woohoo: It could be the colored pellets and the only way to know for sure is remove the red and orange ones and see but if she is eating and acting otherwise normal then you might hold off on the vet appointment.
  6. Who can resist ice cream, I know I can't. That is cute of him licking it up off the table but yes once in a while a little bit is ok, thanks for sharing that with us.
  7. I saw that exact same toy today at our bird fair and I passed it up, darn, I knew I should have got one for Josey, oh well I got her a lot of new toys and a playstand made out of crape myrtle branches, now I just have to wait for her to get used to it so she can enjoy it.
  8. Oh you have way over spoiled her but who can blame you, you have one good looking grey, thanks for sharing the pictures, old and new of Pepper.
  9. Facebook, now I have heard everything, no way is Josey going on facebook, I won't have her carrying on with another grey like a little hussy. :woohoo: I would think it would have a lot to do with their own individual personality, I can imagine a lot of them will continue to enjoy playing long into the years.
  10. Sully is looking great Janet, I think in some time he will be fully feathered and beautiful, you are doing a great job with him and I can't wait to see him in a few months time. Oh no, a sun conure that plucks, that really surprises me but I guess it can happen with any bird but a sun is such a bright color, what a shame.
  11. Well sometimes it happens and I hope the new perch placement will make all the difference, time will tell. Just don't fret over it even if it turns out she is plucking her tail feathers as that will only make it worse. I am sure she will have a beautiful tail again soon.
  12. The first word is always special Pat, thanks for sharing that special moment with us.
  13. Those are some wonderful pictures Carol of your two greys, your son must enjoy them both, thanks for sharing these pics with us.
  14. Hello Jasmine and welcome to our family, we are so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and April. How long have you had April? Are you the one that is responsible for feeding and taking care of April or do you share those duties with your parents? You sound like you know what you are doing and at 14 years of age that is an accomplishment in itself. As you may be finding out we have a wealth of information in our many threads so do read thru them at your leisure and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. We love pictures here so if you have some of April you would share with us we would appreciate it.
  15. Bonek is a very pretty grey and I know you are enjoying him immensely, thanks for sharing some pics of him with us Kenz.
  16. I am supposed to go to the sanctuary next Saturday, June 27th and the offer still stands if anyone wants to go with me. I should get an email any day now with the address and the directions on how to get there but I would love for someone off the forum to go with me if at all possible, I can't wait.
  17. Just thought I would throw my two cents worth in Caroline if you don't mind. It does take a special kind of person to take care of the elderly and/or otherwise dependent people who need someone to do the things for them they can't do for themselves. How far do you want to take this? What if it means changing their diapers and cleaning up their messes for this is what will eventually happen with most and some people can't handle that. Davey brings up a good point about getting attached to the people especially if you are with them for a long period of time, can you handle that? I know a woman who does this for a living and she does clean up messes and whatever but she is the kind of person who can handle it and she loves what she does. Only you can answer that question as no one else here knows you but if this is what you really think you can handle then go for it, the world needs more people in this profession.
  18. Hello Deebondlvn and welcome to our family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Sunny.
  19. Well by the end of the evening you all won't know if you are coming or going so what does it matter about the dress:laugh:
  20. I bow to you and Frank, you two are the true masters of this forum.
  21. Carol I knew you were busy with life but its nice you were able to drop in and give us an update on the greys, glad to hear they are doing fine and you too. Sounds like you have a new job, thats great to hear. Thanks for sharing some pictures of your precious babies with us.
  22. WOW, I love these new forum rankings, this means I am a "MASTER" with over 15,000 posts, I am know all:whistle: just kidding, lots of posts does not necessarily mean more knowledge:huh: just means I have had a lot to say, some of it good, some bad but all was meant in good humor, gosh I love this forum.
  23. Happy Hatchday Alfie on Sunday, here in the US it is Father's Day, how appropriate, he is a cute bugger, thanks Davey for sharing a pic with us.
  24. I give Josey her red palm oil in her oatmeal but other members drizzle it over their vegetables, grains, beans, rice, pasta and other things. If you scramble an egg you could add a little oil to it before cooking or mix it into birdie bread, there are many ways you can include it in their diet other than adding it to oatmeal.
  25. Koko might not have understood the words but I bet he understood the tone of voice and he knew she meant business the second time.
